This is a rare 1979 Jeep Cherokee. It has an AMC 360 V8 motor. It is full time four wheel drive with an automatic transmission. The odometer reads 60449 but I'm sure that it has turned over and is 160449, though I do not know that for sure, neither did the previous owner. The title states that the odometer has exceeded mechanical limits. It has a 3" body lift with 33" tires on 15" rims. I have installed new brake calipers on all 4 wheels with new pads as well. There is very little rust on the body but the floor boards had quite a bit of rust damage and the previous owner patched the damage with metal. The previous owner decided to remove the big stock mirrors and installed small mirrors, so there are screw heads where the old mirrors mounted. There is one small rust hole in the hood and a little surface rust near the wheel wells, but other than that the body is rust free. There are some small dings and dents in the body as shown in the pictures. The windshield has a crack in the driver side. The previous owner installed a custom front bumper with a grill guard. The previous owner also installed new black carpet and seat upholstery. I have let the Jeep sit long enough that mice have damaged a little bit of the carpet as shown in the picture. The dash needs some work as it is cracked and the gauges have shifted out of place. The fuel gauge does not work. I'm not sure if its the sending unit or the actual gauge. There is no headliner. I have the passenger door trim, it is just not installed. The rear gate has an electric window that works and the gate folds down. The engine has new Edelbrock intake and carburetor, new battery, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new starter, new master cylinder, and new starter solenoid. It does have some blow by so the engine smokes a little at idle and the valve cover gaskets leak a little causing smoke in the engine compartment. The engine starts and runs good, unless it has sat a while. If it has sat for a couple days, it takes some time to start it. I haven't had the carburetor tuned since I installed the new carb, so a tune up may help. The transmission shifts smooth and seems solid. The Jeep drives good on the road. Its a fun vehicle to own and drive, I just don't have the time to give it the TLC it deserves.

Project Trail Force Jeep Wrangler goes to SEMA, then to a lucky winner
Wed, Jul 1 2015Extreme Terrain is an aftermarket parts company focused on the Jeep Wrangler. Partly just because it's a really cool thing to do, and probably having something to do with Jeep's upcoming 75th anniversary, Extreme Terrain found some dance partners to help work up a special 2015 Wrangler Rubicon that it will show off at the Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival in Butler, PA, then at SEMA in November, where it will be given away. Extreme worked with Barricade Off-Road and Kevin Tetz from the Spike show Trucks! to build the Wrangler it calls Project Trail Force. There is more than $24,000 worth of aftermarket gear on it, starting with the Ripp centrifugal supercharger that pumps an additional 140 horsepower into the 3.6-liter V6. It's got a 3.5-inch lift kit from Rock Krawler, Dana 44 axles strung between 37-inch BFG tires, Barricade bumpers, a 9,500-pound winch, fender flares, rock sliders, a 50-inch LED light bar above the windshield, LED spotlights on the A-pillars, and seven-inch KC Hilites headlights. Rugged Ridge worked over the inside with upgrades like all-terrain floor and cargo liners, plus seat covers, and a new navigation system with a back-up camera. If you want to win it, you can enter the contest at Extreme Terrain once every week until Oct. 23. The winner gets flown to SEMA to have Kevin Tetz hand the keys over. If you just want to see it, you can head to PA for that heritage festival. The Project Trail Force will also lead a Jeep parade that could set a Guinness World Record. The press release below has a lot more info on the build. Good luck. EXTREMETERRAIN AND BARRICADE OFF-ROAD TO UNVEIL THEIR FULLY-BUILT 2015 JEEP WRANGLER AT BANTAM JEEP FESTIVAL ExtremeTerrain.com and Barricade Off-Road teamed up to build a $73,000+ 2015 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon to be given away to a lucky winner at the 2015 SEMA Show • Giveaway Link: http://www.extremeterrain.com/jeep-wrangler-project-trailforce-giveaway.html • Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsO6fxVq6kI MALVERN, Pa. 2016 Jeep Wrangler to ditch solid axles to save weight?
Tue, 29 Oct 2013Hey, Jeep fans. If you think the idea of a funky-looking, car-based Cherokee revival is offensive, have a listen to what might be in store for the next-gen Jeep Wrangler. Automotive News is reporting that as Jeep develops the 2016 Wrangler, weight reduction is a crucial target, and the Wrangler's rugged solid axles could be sacrificed in the name of better fuel economy.
We've already heard the next Wrangler will go on a serious diet using aluminum body panels and an air suspension system, so the idea of a four-wheel independent suspension setup for this OG SUV isn't all that surprising. Besides, it's not like an independent suspension would limit the Wrangler's off-road abilities - just check out the Hummer H1. In fact, it might be the aftermarket parts companies - not Wrangler enthusiasts - who would be most disappointed by such a drastic suspension change, as the article states that the Wrangler's solid axles and coil-link suspension make it the most popular SUV for customization.
There are probably still a couple years before we'll start hearing any concrete details about the 2016 Wrangler, at which time it will be interesting to see how stricter fuel economy and crash safety regulations have been balanced with traditional Wrangler cues like its removable doors and roof and folding windshield. Let us know in the comments below if a Wrangler sans solid axles is any less of a Wrangler.
Jeep Cherokee faces on-sale delay
Sat, 23 Mar 2013A report in The Wall Street Journal looks at some of the obstacles to the 2014 Jeep Cherokee that go beyond its mootable yet "very contemporary" looks, almost all of them based on Fiat's financial position. Starting with that sheetmetal, in defense of it SRT president Ralph Gilles and Jeep design head Mark Allen said they wanted to "make sure the design still looks modern five years from now."
The WSJ piece doesn't cite longevity as a factor, instead saying that its features originated in a design for an Alfa Romeo, the transformation into a Jeep design meant allowing Chrysler get it to market more quickly and save "hundreds of millions of dollars" in engineering.
The need for Fiat to save money while it weathers the European situation has cut budgets for development, engineering and the pace of retooling the Toledo, Ohio plant to build the Cherokee. In a familiar case of snowballing at work, among the effects will be pushing back the Cherokee's volume sales date and delaying updates to some of Chrysler's other products.
