Every single bolt that was installed for the flares, bumpers, etc. was powder coated black, and all of the parts that were used in the build were only the best. All of the parts that were installed, meaning the front and rear bumper, light brackets, and other satin black parts on the Jeep were powder coated through the highest quality establishment in the area. The powder coating cost alone was more than the cost of most aftermarket bumpers. The Poison Spyder Crusher Flares were painted through a reputable paint shop, and both the topside and the underside were completed in the identical paint to the factory Jeep paint code. All of the mounting hardware for the flares, the brackets, bolts, etc. were powder coated black for aesthetic purposes and for resilience to the elements. There have also been several questions about the ride of the vehicle and how it handles on the highway. The vehicle components that were used to raise the Jeep i.e. the Fox 2.0 reservoir shocks and the Rock Krawler lift kit, are amongst the highest quality parts available on the market today. The vehicle rides very similar to stock, and is not harsh at all for someone that wants to use it on the highway or for city driving. For someone who is very use to driving a stock height Jeep, this would require no adaptation whatsoever. Also, I should add that the tires were installed with tire pressure monitoring sensors, even the fifth tire, so the sensor does not stay on as with most modded Jeeps. Jeep Renegade gets Riptide and Frostbite customs at SEMA
Wed, 05 Nov 2014The cute little Jeep Renegade isn't even on sale yet, but here at SEMA, the Mopar folks are giving us a taste of what's possible for the little CUV in the big wide world of customization. Part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' massive SEMA spread, the Renegade shows up in fresh Riptide and and Frostbite guises.
First up, the Riptide arrives in Vibrance Grandeur Blue with black wheels and a big ol' Jeep Performance Parts logo on the rear pillar. There are a few black accents elsewhere on the exterior, and a surfboard carrier rides up on the roof. The blue color scheme also finds its way inside the Renegade, on the instrument cluster and side panels, with contrasting white accents.
By contrast, the Frostbite Renegade reverses the Riptide's color scheme, with white being the main paint of choice, with blue accents abound. And inside, Katzkin seats wear blue upholstery. The Frostbite is a pretty functional creation, as well, with a Mopar ski/snowboard roof rack and a Jeep Performance Parts rock rail guard.
Mazda2 nets Japan Car of the Year, Cherokee first US model to ever crack top 10
Tue, 14 Oct 2014The 2015 Mazda2 is quite high up on our must-drive list. Yes, the teeny, tiny successor to the 100-horsepower five-door is worth getting excited over, largely because the previous generation was one of the absolute best smiles-per-dollar values on the market.
While we eagerly await for our opportunity to take to the 2's helm, our expectations of the new car have just been heightened thanks to its win in Japan's Car of the Year competition. Called "Demio" in the land of the rising sun, Japanese journalists handed out Mazda's second COTY award since the CX-5 took the title in 2012.
In more surprising news, the new Jeep Cherokee has made the list of 10 Best Cars in Japan. The Jeep's triumph marks the first time an American car has cracked the top ten, finishing eighth. It's not, however, the first Fiat Chrysler vehicle to snag the title, following in the footsteps of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Fiat Panda. Still, the fact that an American brand can make such impressive inroads into the traditionally tough-to-crack Japanese market is a seriously big deal.
Chrysler recalling 31k SUVs and vans
Fri, 06 Jun 2014Chrysler is issuing recalls covering roughly 31,700 vehicles worldwide due to two separate problems. In both cases the company believes that most of the affected vehicles are either still on, or in transit to, dealer lots.
One recall covers roughly 10,700 Dodge Durango, Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee SRT models from the 2014 model year built between January 16 and April 17, 2014. The SUVs need a software update for the cruise control. It's possible that when the cruise is on and the driver presses on the throttle, the acceleration could last a second after the pedal is released or two seconds for the SRT. Afterward, they return to the speed originally set by the driver.
Chrysler says it isn't aware of any accidents, injuries or even reported incidents of this happening in the real world. Also, in all cases, if the driver presses on the brake, the cruise shuts off. The automaker believes that there are about 6,100 affected SUVs in the US, 950 in Canada, 425 in Mexico and 3,200 outside of North America. The software upgrade will be ready shortly, the company says.
