1994 Jeep Wrangler Sahara.   6-speed manual transmission.  266,048 miles.

WARNING:  JEEP NEEDS A NEW ENGINE OR ENGINE REBUILD!!!  SOLD AS IS!!!

Jeep starts and runs fine except it has a blown head gasket and therefore overheats after about ten minutes.  It began overheating last month, I replaced the radiator, but the problems persisted and ultimately it blew the head gasket.  The only reason I am selling it is because I don't want to spend the money to replace the engine at this time.  This would be an excellent candidate for a restoration, or for the rare, hard to find parts!

Factory options include the desirable Champagne Light Metallic finish, Spice soft top (replaced with a Bestop in 2008), Hunter Green interior with Spice accents (original seats are functional but sun damaged and torn in places;  all gauges work except the fuel gauge;  center console is functional but has a crack in the cup holder;  floor carpet removed), rare factory air conditioning (works great!), AM/FM cassette and sound bar (cassette not working, speakers should be rewired if not replaced), and the "add-a-trunk" lockable storage.  It is missing the factory fog lamps.

This vehicle spent most of its first ten years in the Southwest and California and its last ten years in the Northeast.  Overall, the body is in decent condition for a twenty year old vehicle.  Some wear and chipped paint (was repainted in 1995 due to a dust storm in Texas, the fender flares were repainted last year).  Some minor rust.  Windshield and windshield frame replaced in 2010.   Tires replaced in 2012 (spare has never been used).  Side mirrors replaced last year.

Recent mechanical work (last five years):

2009

-  new muffler and catalytic converter

2010

-  new AC compressor

2011

-  new thermostat

2012

-  new front brake pads and rotors, new rear wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and brake drums
-  new tires
-  new battery
-  new alternator
-  new idler pulley and serpentine belt

2013

-  new distributor cap and ignition coil
-  new starter
-  new fuel injectors

2014

-  new windshield wiper motor (intermittent does not work;  normal and fast work) and linkage
-  new radiator

It passed New Jersey inspection last year.

Will include a Wolf cover, the original Sahara logo spare tire cover (good condition), some after-market Jeep logo fog lamps (never installed), and all mechanical records.

$2500 BUY IT NOW!  This is a one-time, 7-day listing.  If it doesn't sell, I will sell it locally or part it out.  Buyer will have to arrange for any and all transportation of the vehicle.  Feel free to ask any questions.  Thanks for checking out my auction and good luck!  Very respectfully, Chris

Chrysler set to make $266M-investment into 8-speed transmission production

Wed, Dec 10 2014

Chrysler will shortly make a significant $266-million investment into its Kokomo, IN transmission factory in a bid to expand production of its eight-speed automatic transmissions. The gearboxes, which are built under license from Germany's ZF Friedrichshafen, have been well received by customers and critics, and according to an SEC filing obtained by Automotive News, the transmissions will eventually find their way to all of Chrysler's rear-drive offerings (Viper and heavy-duty Ram models, aside). According to AN, a Chrysler spokesman says the investment has not been confirmed, but once it is, it'll mark the company's latest in a growing line of investments at the facility. Chrysler has poured $1.5 billion into Kokomo since 2009.

NHTSA still mulling crash tests for recalled Jeeps

Thu, 15 Aug 2013

Well, no one should ever accuse the government of not giving things plenty of thought. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is still debating whether it will retest any of the 1.56 million 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokees and 2002 to 2007 Libertys that were part of a recall regarding fires after rear-end collisions. And yes, this debate has been going on for over a month. In other news...
The recall dustup started in early June, when Chrysler took the unusual position of refusing a recall request from NHTSA regarding placement of the fuel tank on the effected vehicles. NHTSA said a collision could cause a fire, a position Chrysler took issue with. Extensive negotiations ensued, with Chrysler agreeing to fit certain Jeeps with trailer hitches, which it said would provide some protection to fuel tanks mounted behind the rear axle in the event of a collision.
Part of the issue rests with the amount of data that needs to be processed, according to The Detroit News. NHTSA administrator David Strickland said during a Washington Auto Press Association meeting, "There's a lot of data and Chrysler is being very cooperative in giving us more data." Until that information has been sorted, it looks like re-testing will still be up for debate.

Final Toledo Jeep decision may have nothing to do with city's efforts

Mon, Apr 13 2015

Toledo, OH is doing all that it can to keep production of the Jeep Wrangler in its boundaries, but the biggest issue facing the plant may be insurmountable, no matter how desperately the city wants to keep the Wrangler local. The Wrangler is built in a rather interesting manner at the Toledo Supplier Park: Fiat Chrysler only handles the very final assembly of each vehicle, while two other companies, Kuka, a German firm, and Hyundai-Mobis, a member of the sprawling Hyundai empire, produce the body and chassis, respectively. The vehicles are then transferred over to the FCA part of the park, where they're painted and completed. This was, as The Detroit News explains, a convenient arrangement back in 2006 when the supplier park opened. Chrysler, which was still owned by Daimler at the time, arranged for Kuka and Mobis to handle production, saving it a huge sum of money. Both suppliers own their own machinery and buildings and employ their own workers. Now that FCA is a relatively healthy entity, though, there's not a lot of need to be sharing profits with two other companies. "What [FCA boss Sergio Marchionne] would like is to have the advantages of high-capacity utilization, owning that capacity and taking advantage of that for himself versus having a supplier doing some of the things his competitors do internally," David Cole, chairman emeritus at the Ann Arbor, MI-based Center for Automotive Research, told The News. "It really adds another level of complexity to the situation." While Sergio Marchionne is a man that generally gets what he wants, it seems unlikely that either Mobis or Kuka would give up their role quietly. According to Jon Zapf, Mobis North America's chairperson for UAW Local 12, the company "definitely wants to maintain their part of this production process." According to The News, Jeep is likely to announce the location of next-generation Wrangler production in June. Expect to hear much more on this one in the coming months.
