This is a red ’89 Jeep Wrangler, the four-cylinder make. It is considerably rusty and, at 236,825 miles, it is well used (though the engine, which was pulled and moved over from a '95 Wrangler, has closer to 150,000). It starts fast and runs strong. We just drove it to Pittsburgh (from Cleveland) and back last week without trouble. The following things have been replaced in the last couple years: Radiator Left front wheel bearing and axle U-joint Steering gear box Clutch Tie rods Some other things to know would be that the parking/emergency brake doesn’t work (I carry a brick around for when I have to park on an incline), neither does the horn. In a heavy rain, water will drip down from the dashboard and flood the floor of the front seats, but but there are drainage holes for this. The rear windows to the soft top can be a hassle to get on and one of the zippers is torn (since the interior is all metal and vinyl I just leave them out when it rains). The rear plastic window has a hole of about 5 inches which flaps in the breeze, but could be sealed with tape. The tires are fairly bald. And it consistently gets between 18-22 mpg (better around town than on the highway). You can see from the pictures that it has significant rust. It also runs very loud and needs a muffler, but being more than 25 years old, is exempt from emissions testing. Any old muffler on it would quiet it down for driving. The 4WD works, but sometimes slips out of gear. We use a bungy cord to keep pressure on the stick to keep it engaged. This would be a great farm vehicle to get around the back 40. Or you could just pull the engine and move it to something else. The back seat, rarely used, is in good shape. Same with the passenger seat. The wheels are stock Jeep from a 99 Wrangler. On Sep-10-14 at 10:11:32 PDT, seller added the following information: One more thing. If you fill the gas tank all the way up, you get a gas smell if it's garaged. I think the seal is faulty for the in-tank fuel pump needs replaced. The fuel pump was replaced 3 years ago and we cut an access panel to it in the rear trunk area. So it's not hard to get to that area to check it. I just keep forgetting. I've owned this Jeep for 14 years and even though it's well-worn, I'll be sad to see it go. I'd keep it except my son (who drove it the last 4 years) just went to London to study for his Master's degree and I don't want to store it for a year. |

2014 Easter Jeep Safari kicks off with six concepts
Thu, 10 Apr 2014The 2014 Easter Jeep Safari is set to begin this weekend in Moab, Utah, and while it's sure to be a blast for Jeep enthusiasts from all corners of the world, we're looking forward to the wild, off-road ready concepts that Jeep will be bringing to the red rocks. As you can see in our handy headline, there are six such vehicles in total, each of which sports a variety of tweaks and custom bits.
Unlike in years past, where Jeep graced us with some outrageous concepts like the Mighty FC or J-12, this year's vehicles are a bit more restrained and a bit more buildable by enthusiasts. That's not by accident, officials tell us. They wanted to put this year's focus on attainable vehicles and accessories from Mopar and Jeep Performance Parts that existing owners can use to augment their own vehicles. So let's get to it.
We'll start with the Wranglers first. There are three concepts of the jeepiest of Jeep coming to Moab - the Level Red, Maximum Performance and Mojo. The Level Red and the Mojo (seen above) are similar from a suspension and engine standpoint. Both boast a two-inch Jeep Performance Parts lift kit, which officials tell us is coming to market in the next few months. There are a pair of Dana 44 crate axles on both the front and rear, while a Jeep Performance Parts Rock-Trac transfer case has been fitted. The 3.6-liter V6 engines on both Jeeps can breathe a bit easier thanks to a new cold-air intake and exhaust system.
Next Jeep Wrangler to keep solid axles
Mon, Feb 16 2015Jeep fans, you're not out of the woods yet, but the latest news is good: Automotive News reports that the next-generation Wrangler will stick with floating solid axles front and rear. Fiat-Chrysler wouldn't comment on the report, but the theory is that the combination of cost, capability, and ease of modification were deciding factors. We're sure the multibillion dollar aftermarket industry is also pleased. Remember, Jeep showed off the lifted Cherokee Dakar Concept at the Easter Jeep Safari last year, but the first ingredient in the recipe for jacking up its independent suspension was, "a whole new suspension." Above that there will be an aluminum body that's smaller than the current one, which Allpar says could be done with a narrower track and tighter gaps. It will sport a fixed windshield with increased rake to improve aero efficiency, and while there are rumors of a diesel-engined version that we'll finally get in the US, there's been no reliable info as of yet to back that up. How to update and secure a vulnerable Chrysler Uconnect system
Sat, Jul 25 2015If you own one of the 1.4 million vehicles affected by the recent Chrysler software recall, you may want to watch this video. In it, we explain how to get the latest infotainment software loaded onto the 8.4-inch Uconnect system. The recall was a response to the findings of researchers who were able to hack into and remotely control a 2014 Jeep Cherokee through its cellular connection. Although Fiat Chrysler has worked with Sprint to plug most of the holes on the carrier side, there are still some vulnerabilities that only this latest software version can patch. Owners have three options to get the update: download it now, wait for a USB stick in the mail, or take the vehicle to an FCA dealer. Chrysler will be sending USB sticks loaded with the software update to customers. Anyone with an internet connection and a USB stick of their own with at least 4 GB capacity can speed things up by downloading the patch from the Uconnect website. We cover that process from start to finish in the video, with the final portion still applicable to those using the FCA-supplied USB stick. If after watching this you still don't want to tackle the patch yourself, you can take your vehicle to the dealer to have it done. Also note that this process is the same for all Uconnect updates, not just the one patching the exploits. Our demonstrator vehicle is a 2015 Ram 1500 pickup. The procedure should be very similar on other products with the 8.4-inch Uconnect system, with only the location of the USB port varying. Once you have the USB stick with the software on it – either after having downloaded it yourself or receiving it in the mail from Chrysler – the installation process is relatively simple. It takes about 15 minutes to perform the update; we edited out the wait in the video. To check whether or not your car's 8.4-inch Uconnect system is running the latest software, go to System Information on the touch screen's Settings page and look at Software Version. The update related to the recall is version 15.17.5. Related Video: Recalls Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Safety Technology Infotainment Videos Original Video hacking
