Up for sale here is a BUILT 1988 JEEP WRANGLER LAREDO 4X4. This will be an excellent project vehicle for someone - 95% of the work has already been done, PLUS you get a PILE of extra parts with it.
I am not the owner of the vehicle - this listing is for a friend. I am the mechanic, but GM is my area of expertise. I did not build the vehicle.
First I have to start off with the bad news. It runs, but not good. I received it in non-running condition. Diagnosis showed the ignition timing was off 2 positions, so this means it jumped cam time. Now to find out why. After resetting the distributor to the correct position & fiddling with the ignition timing, I got it running. It has a dead miss on the passenger bank with coolant smell out that side's exhaust. While the engine was running for diagnosis, the radiator let go in the middle of the fins toward the passenger side of the radiator, presumably from combustion pressure (stock brass radiator, so may be repaired in the right hands). So my theory is it dropped a valve, got mashed by the piston, which caused the timing to jump. This is all just a guess at this point because we did not proceed any further.
**THE VEHICLE WILL BE SOLD AS IS IN THIS CONDITION**
This thing is a treasure trove of parts! Wouldn't take much work to toss another engine in, or rebuild this one. It has a Dana 30 front with a manual locker in the cab, greaseable shackles, Moog ball joints, an unidentified transfer case (tags missing) that looks BIG & tough, a BUILT 700r4 automatic transmission with a B&M shifter, and the rear is finished off with the much sought-after & bulletproof Ford 9" rear with 4:11 gears out of a '72 Ford F-250 pickup (had recent work done). Has Skyjacker shocks all the way around. The previous owner, the one who built it, claims it's a 383 stoker engine, but we have no way to verify this aside from dropping the pan and measuring crank throws - I'll leave that to the next owner. It is fueled with a '88-'94 GM TBI setup with in-tank fuel pump - perfect for rock crawling. Everything seems to function normally as far as I could see. It ran fine before the engine issues. An array of expensive digital gauges including an air/fuel meter replaces the stock instrument cluster. A custom built subwoofer is in the very back, along with some good sized speakers on each side of the back seat. Passed STRICT MA state inspection in July of '12, and sticker is still valid.
This Jeep comes with a pile of parts. You get the stock set of doors, a complete soft top setup with soft doors & the rear "window", the one missing rock slider for the passenger side, some chrome center caps, another set of shackles & bushings, soft armrests, a set of weatherstrip unopened, and a few other odds and ends I probably forgot to mention. Check out the pics closely!
It was on the road driven daily since December of '09. Everything worked (4x4, lights, wipers, etc), & the transmission shifted good. We have a folder full of receipts and a notebook for maintenance items. The body on this is SOLID - amazing for this part of the country. ZERO rust or rot that I can find anywhere on the body or the undercarriage. You'd think this came from down south.
It is what it is. Be sure to READ THIS AD and KNOW WHAT YOUR BUYING. I did not want to test drive it due to the radiator leaking and possible internal damage, but the brakes & steering felt good driving it across my yard to it's parking spot. The shifter is nice and crisp, and it went into reverse and drive quickly and silently. It will not take throttle without "feathering", or lightly pumping it due to the cam timing being off a few degrees, but it is driveable to move or load onto a trailer. There looks to be oil leaking or weeping from every component. Nothing severe that I could see.
Bear in mind that this is a PROJECT vehicle for someone MECHANICALLY INCLINED. I may have forgotten to mention some minor quirks, or missed something in my evaluation. Know what you are buying!
With some elbow grease and a little cash, this thing will be a KILLER on or off-road machine! Or, make money on parts - the choice is yours.
Delivery by open flatbed trailer available for $1.50 PER MILE as measured by MAPQUEST.COM from 01535 to your destination. ** NO NEW YORK CITY!! **
**Feedback will be left ONLY AFTER it is left for me.**
THANKS for looking & have a good one!

Fiat-based baby Jeep spotted testing in US and Europe
Thu, 03 Oct 2013Details remain scarce, but our spy photographers have managed to capture the upcoming Jeep B-segment crossover for the first time, testing in both the Alps and in the US. Shown here as a cobbled-together Fiat 500L mule, the new Jeep model is expected to arrive for the 2015 model year and act as a replacement for the current Compass and Patriot models.
According to our shooter, the new "baby Jeep" will share a platform with the Fiat 500X, and both models will be built on the same assembly line in Turin, Italy. We can't tell much from these images, but the added length apparent on this 500L mule would seem to dispel the recent speculation that the new entry-level Jeep model would be sized closer to the Ford Fiesta - since the 500L is already considerably larger than the Fiesta. Powertrain options will likely mirror other Fiat/Chrysler collaborative vehicles like the Dodge Dart, but this Jeep will also try to live up to its off-road roots with an optional all-wheel-drive system.
Jeep and Alfa Romeo join the already exotic Italian police force
Mon, Dec 12 2016Police departments in Italy are blessed with some of the most iconic cop cars on the planet. Where else will you see a pale blue Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 emblazoned with "Polizia" on the road? FCA decided they couldn't let Lamborghini steal the show and have handed over the first Jeep Renegade and Alfa Romeo Giulietta to the Police Academy in Rome. FCA is also loaning two Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloces that will join the two Giulia Quadrifoglios medical cars that are already in service. The Renegade is an four-wheel drive Italian-spec model with a 2.0-liter, 120 horsepower inline four-cylinder engine that we don't get in the United States. The current Giulietta is a small-hatchback that isn't sold in America. On the other hand, the new Giulia and its 280 horsepower turbocharged inline-four and the Q4 all-wheel drive system goes on sale next month. In polizia guise, it's one of the most formidable and beautiful pursuit vehicles on the road. FCA is no stranger to police cars and supplies Dodge Charger Pursuits to fleets all across the US. We spent some time in one a while back and learned all the pros and cons of driving a black and white cruiser. Jeep dealer buries WWII Willys GP in showroom floor
Tue, 04 Nov 2014The Willys MB Jeep earned icon status during World War II thanks to its ruggedness, simplicity and go-anywhere ability. Following the war, it didn't take long for the handy vehicles to be scooped up by the public, and a brand slowly grew around the vehicles that has continued to thrive. Fast-forward to present day, where it's not uncommon for auto dealers to try to grab some of the magic of yesteryear by displaying classic models to connect customers with their brands' proud histories. Now, a Canadian Chrysler Group dealer is taking that notion to the extreme by actually making a vintage WWII Jeep part of its foundation.
Bay King Chrysler in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, recently completed its new showroom, and the franchise really wanted to show its dedication to the Jeep brand. As dealer principal Jamie Richter tells Autoblog, the inspiration for the Jeep installation came from his brother, who became fascinated with a home that had a glass floor looking down into its wine cellar. The company already had the 1943 Willys MB to display, but it had originally planned to build a jungle gym around it for customers' kids. Now, the classic is literally in the floor as customers enter. Richter tells Autoblog that customer reaction so far has been "fantastic."
It's certainly a novel way to bring people into the showroom, and seemingly a nice nod not only to Jeep, but to the men and women who served in the war. If you want to see more about how the Jeep was actually installed and what it looks like, check out this video.
