Grand Wagoneer with Southern Ownership History

Body and Paint:   This original Jeep retains its original body and paint from the factory.  All of the panels are rust free because of its southern ownership history and have highly visible factory spot and pinch welds.  The rear door jambs as seen in the pictures show an example of those original seams.  The paint is amazing for its age and still holds a very high shine and gloss.  There isn't any evidence of previous paint touch up anywhere on the vehicle.  No over-spray, no paint fade, and no paint lines anywhere.  The wood sides are near perfect along with the wood trim.  Even the wood on the roof rack is like new.   The door jambs and sills even are in great condition are free of any wear marks.   The driver’s door jamb still retains the factory vehicle info decal with vin number and other vehicle information.  This Jeep definitely has been garage stored its entire life.   You will not need to spend any money on the body or paint for this special Grand Wagoneer.

Trim and Chrome:  The exterior trim and chrome are all intact and original to the vehicle.  The condition is near new to excellent and appears to have never been removed or altered in any way.  All trim holds a nice high quality chrome shine and free of any pitting.  Look at pics of trim and door handles to see how nice they are.

Engine and Transmission:   The engine is the original 360 V-8 that the Jeep was built with and holds good oil pressure and runs nice and cool.   The engine compartment is all original with factory emission tag, data tag and factory markings still in place.   The transmission operates flawlessly and shifts nice and crisp as it should.   The 4x4 switch operates properly as well as the 4x4 low.  This GW runs nice and smooth with a quiet ride.   The exhaust system is in great condition also and does not need any work.

Interior:   What a beautiful factory original interior from the headliner to the floor mats.   The leather seats are like new and would pass for a vehicle with 20,000 miles.  The carpet is the original deep shag and is beautiful without wear areas or stains.  This Jeep even has its original Jeep factory floor mats and they look almost new.   The door panels do not have any marks on them and fit like they did day one.  The dash, gauges, steering wheel, horn button, door handles, wood trim accents and balance of the interior are all in great original condition and have never been altered in any way.    I do have the original radio in a box that the Jeep was delivered with and that will go to the next owner.  I also have the rear cargo cover.

Glass and Mirrors:   From what I have observed the glass is all original with possible exception to the windshield.  There aren’t any chips or stars in the windshield.   The side glass has had a minor tint applied because of its southern ownership history and I believe that aided in preserving the interior from sun fade and heat.  The rear power glass window in the tailgate operates correctly from either the dash mounted button or key function.     This Jeep has the power mirror option for both drivers side and passenger side and they operated smooth and quiet.     ASC installed a glass moon roof and the ASC decal required by law is still on the driver’s door.

Wheels and Tires:   All of the wheels are original and are in very nice condition.  They have the correct center caps and lug nuts.   The tires are high quality with the era correct white wall for that classic look.  The tires look great with the white paint.

Terms of Sale:   I am selling the Jeep “as is” because vehicles of this age are.  If you have the opportunity to see and drive this GW before the auction period expires, then I invite you to do so to truly appreciate the originality and excellent condition of this vehicle.    I have offered a buy it now option to end the auction early and buy the Jeep.  I have compared my buy it now price with comparable GW’s in this condition and feel it is very well priced.   If you have any questions I may be reached at 248-760-0021 to discuss the Jeep or purchase.   I have a link to more pictures at the top of the description to click on or copy and paste.

Someone is going to get a great original Grand Wagoneer which will continue to appreciate in value and brings years of enjoyment.    Thank you for viewing my auction.   Bob

7 months later, Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall still stalled

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

For the past few years, Chrysler and its CEO, Sergio Marchionne, have gone head-to-head with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and its boss, David Strickland, over the government safety agency's request for Chrysler to recall almost three-million Jeep vehicles due to what NHTSA says is a safety issue that has caused at least 51 deaths. After a three-year investigation and Chrysler's initial refusal to issue a recall because it deemed the vehicles safe and built to the day's federal requirements, last summer, the two parties compromised on a "voluntary campaign" to inspect 1.56 million vehicles, those being the 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokee and 2002 to 2007 Liberty.
Those vehicles were designed with their gas tanks between the rear axle and the bumper, and NHTSA says that in rear-end collisions, damage to the fuel tank has caused fires responsible for those 51 deaths. The compromise reached last summer was that Chrysler would inspect 1.56 million vehicles and, "if necessary, provide an upgrade to the rear structure of the vehicle." Practically speaking, that meant Chrysler would replace aftermarket trailer hitches, but would take no action if a vehicle had a factory-installed hitch or an aftermarket hitch from Mopar.
A report in The Detroit News says the "voluntary campaign" is just now getting under way, with Chrysler saying last week that the design of the replacement part had been finalized and it was tooling up "to deliver the required volume." Seven months later, still in question is whether NHTSA will crash-test the fix engineered by Chrysler, noteworthy because not only did the vehicles in question pass every safety standard necessary to be cleared for sale at the time, there are still questions (to those of us on the outside) as to how the Jeeps at issue fare among their peers in such incidents. Either way, Chrysler and NHTSA apparently still disagree on the efficacy of the remedy itself: the carmaker says it might help in low-speed crashes but not high-speed collisions, a position the NHTSA is at odds with. All of this means the campaign doesn't yet have an end in sight.

Jeep shows off Moab Easter Safari concepts crawling the red rocks

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

While most brands are busy showing off in New York, Jeep headed out to Moab for the Easter Jeep Safari with the company's fleet of 2013 concepts. This year saw the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk II, Wrangler Mopar Recon, Wrangler Stitch, Wrangler Sand Trooper II, Wrangler Flattop and Wrangler Slim Concepts tackle the rocks and sand, and Jeep was kind enough to bring along a camera crew to film the machines rolling over a few obstacles. The result is the video below, though don't expect to see too much hardcore off road action.
Instead, the quick clip features more than a few interviews with Jeep executives, including Jeep Head of Product Design Mark Allen, explaining what makes the Easter Jeep Safari so important. You can check out the quick clip below for yourself, and be sure to thumb through our galleries of the concepts as well.

May 2016: FCA wins, Ford and GM stumble on weak car volumes

Wed, Jun 1 2016

The May 2016 sales numbers are in, and it looks as though FCA is getting some vindication for boldly cancelling two slow-selling car models. Meanwhile, Ford saw overall sales dip and GM's May volume took a big dive versus the same month in 2015. While Marchionne's decision to axe the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart has drawn criticism as being short-sighted, it's working for FCA so far. Although the Dart and 200 aren't out of production yet and no capacity has been shifted to crossover or trucks, May's numbers show that the emphasis on Jeep and Ram models makes sense right now. FCA's US sales rose 1 percent last month compared to May 2015, putting the year-to-date total at 955,186 vehicles, an increase of 6 percent compared to the same period last year. Standouts included the Jeep Renegade, Compass, and Patriot, and the Fiat 500X. Ram pickup sales were down 3 percent. And your fun fact is that Alfa Romeo sales were up precisely 10 percent, for a total of 44 4Cs sold versus 40 in the same month last year. At FoMoCo, the Ford brand took a hit to the tune of 6.4 percent from May 2015 to 2016, registering 226,190 sales last month. Lincoln showed improvement on its modest numbers, going from 9,174 to 9,807, a 6.9 percent increase. Overall, Ford was down 5.9 percent for the month to 235,997; despite the slump, year-to-date total Ford sales are up 4.2 percent to 1,112,939. Strong sellers included Escape, Expedition, F-Series, and Transit - big stuff. Most small and/or efficient models (Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, C-Max) saw sales slides. Fusion sales were also down, likely due to effects of model changeover to the freshened 2017 model. Ford has promised four new crossovers and SUVs by 2020 and if things keep trending this way the company will be able to sell them, but things could change in the next four years. GM saw the worst of it for domestic brands. Retail and fleet sales were down for each of the four divisions, with the May 2016 total dropping 18 percent to 240,450 vehicles. GM's year-to-date sales are down 5.0 percent in 2016 to 1,183,705. Both the Sierra and Silverado were down significantly, and the majority of Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac nameplates saw sales decreases, with both small cars and larger utilities included. Not even big stuff could help GM this month, it seems. We'll have more on the rest of the industry's May sales as those figures trickle in.
