Up for auction is a very nice 1990 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.    There were only 6,449 Grand Wagoneers produced in the 1990 model year, which was the next to last year of production.   The 1989-1991 model years are considered the best due to improvements that Chrysler made after buying AMC/JEEP in 1987.

I purchased the Jeep in the spring 2013 and had it shipped from Georgia to New Jersey.   I have invested a lot of money in it and was planning to enjoy it for a long time, but due to a new job and some financial issues, I have decided to sell it.  It has been a lot of fun driving it around town this summer and getting stopped all the time to ask questions about it, everyone loves this Jeep and always says "I haven't seen one of these in a long time!"    I am not a car "flipper" and will certainly not break even on what I have spent.    Here are the details:

  • 112,600 miles
  • Georgia vehicle, I purchased it in spring 2013, it has never seen a northern winter
  • NO RUST - rust is the common enemy of these vehicles
  • Sand Metallic Exterior with Sand interior
  • 360 2V V8, 3 speed automatic transmission
  • 4WD (works)
  • Air Cond (blows ice cold)
  • Power Windows (all work, including rear window using key or dash switch)
  • Power Locks (work)
  • Power Seats (work)
  • Power Steering and Brakes
  • Power mirrors (work)
  • Tilt Wheel
  • Leather Seats
  • Original thick carpet
  • Original floor mats (drivers side shows a lot of wear)
  • Factory ROL fog lights with black "Jeep" covers (very hard to find these now)
  • Haynes Service Manual
  • Original Owner's Manual
  • Cargo cover - not in great shape but works
  • 3 sets of keys
  • Jeep key chain

Below is a list of the work that has been done on the Jeep in the last few months:

  • Replaced valve cover gaskets
  • Replaced intake manifold gaskets
  • Replaced Transfer Case Seal
  • Replaced Right Rear Axle Shaft Bearing Seal
  • Replaced Power Steering Gear Box
  • Replaced Power Steering Pump and hoses
  • Replaced fog lamp switch
  • Installed new fog lamp bulbs
  • Installed new catalytic convertor (passed tough NJ emissions test)
  • Replaced headlamp switch
  • Replaced right passenger door power door lock actuator
  • Installed new taillight lenses and bulbs
  • Installed new Radiator Cap
  • Oil and filter change
  • New air filter
  • Installed New thermostat
  • Tune-up
  • New Wire set, rotor, distributor cap
  • New wiper blades
  • New window wipes
  • New A/C compressor
  • New heater hose
  • New Pioneer AM/FM HD radio CD player (original radio had already been removed)
  • All four wheels professionally refinished
  • All new seat belts professionally installed by a top interior shop in Northern NJ, including rear shoulder belts purchased from Wagoneer World (I did this so could have a child seat in the back).  This was an option in 1990 but few purchased them!
  • New interior kick plates installed
  • New hood insulation pad

Based on service records, the following work was also done on the Jeep:

  • New Engine  - 110K miles (2006)
  • New Radiator - 110K miles (2006)
  • New fan shroud and gaskets - 110K miles (2006)

The last owner of the Jeep purchased it in 2006 and only drove it about 2,000 miles, as he owns several collector cars including other Grand Wagoneers.   The Jeep starts up well and runs nicely.   The cruise control, rear wiper, and compass/temperature gauge in the overhead console do not work.    Replaced valve cover gaskets and intake manifold gaskets due to oil leaks.     Still leaks a couple of drops, may be rear main seal, a common problem for these Jeeps.  Two mechanics have said it is not a big deal at this time.   The paint is good and still shines, but there are several scratches and nicks and chips, which can be seen in the pictures.   I would have it repainted if I were keeping it, I was quoted $1,800 for a 2-stage repaint by a top auto body shop in Northern NJ that has done quality for me in the past.  The original wood trim is in decent shape, as is the vinyl wood tape, but there are scrapes and scratches.  The bumpers are ok, have a lot of scratches, I would have them refinished if I was keeping the Jeep.  The bumper rubber is all there, has scratches and cuts in it.

Vehicle is sold as is, where is, without warranty.   Pick up or shipping arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer.   I can hold the Jeep for a couple of weeks after payment, while shipping is arranged, if necessary.  If there is anything else you would like a picture of please email me through eBay.

You are welcome to inspect the vehicle before the auction ends.  It is located in Northern NJ about 1 hour from NYC. Any questions, please email me through eBay and I will be happy to answer.

$500 non-refundable deposit due via PayPal within 24 hours of auction ending, remaining due via Bank Cashiers/Certified check within 7 days.

I have set a fair reserve based on what these Jeeps are selling for on eBay. I will not disclose the reserve and will not end the auction early.   The Jeep is NOT for sale locally, I intend to sell it on eBay if the reserve is met.   Thank you for looking.

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee recalled for wiring harness

Sat, May 14 2016

The Basics: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling an estimated 32,267 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee models in the US over a wiring harness terminal that can lose its electrical connection. The Problem: An improperly crimped wiring harness may cause the vehicle's shifter to become locked in Park or Neutral once the vehicle is brought to a stop. Injuries/Deaths: None that FCA is aware of. If you own one: FCA suggests owners use their parking brakes when exiting the vehicle. Affected customers will be notified when they may schedule service. More information: An additional 2,095 vehicles in Canada, 538 in Mexico, and 2,472 outside the NAFTA region are also affected by this recall. Questions? Call the FCA US Customer Care Center at 1-800-853-1403. Related Video: Recalls Jeep Safety SUV

Jeep rocks the Wrangler Red Rock concept in Vegas [w/video]

Thu, Nov 5 2015

The SEMA show may have once been all about dropping rides to the floor, but these days it's at least as much about jacking them up on lifted suspensions. And few show cars – or trucks, we should say – managed to embody that spirit at this year's tuner exposition quite as well as the Jeep Wrangler Red Rock you see here. The concept started out life as a Wrangler Unlimited, but instead of four doors, it has none. Or any roof, for that matter. Just a roll cage and a windscreen. What it does have are 17-inch wheels wearing 35-inch BF Goodrich tires and fitted to a suspension lifted by two inches. It also has a reinforced tailgate, power winch, tow hooks... everything, in short, that you could want or need for off-roading, and little more. As you can see, it also looks the business, with a custom hood, body-color grille, matte-finish bumpers, and a brown leather interior. Handsome as it is, though, its rugged beauty runs more than skin deep: lift off the sheetmetal and you'd find electronic locking differentials, a transfer case, and solid axles fore and aft. A more extreme take on the existing Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hard Rock edition, the Red Rock show truck was done up to honor the organization behind the Easter Jeep Safari that's a favorite among the legions of the Jeep faithful. And while it remains a concept only for the time being, a production version is slated to follow in time to celebrate the event's 50th anniversary next year. Related Video:

2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk [w/video]

Mon, Jan 26 2015

There are two avenues to the world of off-roading. Arguably the more popular is to pick up a second- or third-hand Jeep, Land Rover or pickup truck and go wild with the aftermarket. The opposite approach, though, is to simply buy new, which brings a warranty along with the most up-to-date off-road tech fitted by the factory (despite likely lacking the ultimate capability of an aftermarket-imbued vehicle). That second option has, traditionally, been pricey. Take our long-term Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, which rings up at just over $38,000. A Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is going to be an even more expensive proposition, while the undisputed kings of luxury off-road performance from the factory – the Range Rover, Toyota Land Cruiser and Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen – will require ownership of a medium-sized oil well. With all due respect to those who take their Trail-Rated Jeep Patriot models off-road, the all-new Renegade Trailhawk is such an exciting proposition because it brings the cost of a warranty-backed off-roader down significantly, while also delivering a degree of trail-rated performance that should easily fulfill the needs of the average enthusiast. Drive Notes Before we get into what it adds, it's worth noting that the Trailhawk trim does have a small impact on the Renegade's on-road abilities. As we said in our original feature, the TH adds a significant amount of weight to the standard CUV, as it tips the scales at nearly 3,600 pounds. That mass, combined with the slightly higher stance, means the off-road model doesn't handle quite as well as a lesser Jeep. It also doesn't feel as fleet of foot, as it retains the same 2.4-liter, 180-horsepower four-cylinder and nine-speed automatic found throughout the Renegade range. Despite the downers, the Trailhawk trim does bring quite a lot to the Renegade package, most notably in the form of a bespoke version of Jeep's Active Drive all-wheel-drive system. The upgraded system features a dedicated 20:1 crawl ratio while the Selec-Terrain system is home to a new Rock setting. Beyond that, Jeep lifted the Renegade's ride height eight-tenths of an inch, increasing overall ground clearance to 8.7 inches and delivering 8.1 inches of wheel articulation. This is complemented by unique front- and rear-fascias, which up the approach and departure angles to 30.5 and 34.3 degrees, respectively, besting the Cherokee Trailhawk's 29.8 degrees and 32.1 degrees.
