1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer on 2040-cars
Buffalo, New York, United States
Offered for sale is a one owner, accident free 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer with 135K pampered miles. This Jeep is a straight, original and rust free body (originally from NC). The interior and exterior of this Grand Wagoneer has been professionaly restored. The exterior was completely stripped and repainted (base coat/clear coat), including new vinyl wood graphics. All original trim was either rechromed or polished, and original mouldings were refinished. As you can see from the photos the paint shines beautifully and the wood siding is pristine. The glass and rubber are original and in excellent condition, the original wheels were refinished and are wrapped with new tires. All of the power windows, wipers, A/C, and instrument cluster are still original and in perfect working order, as are the compass and termperature guages. The truck has a new aftermarket Sony radio/CD player with an auxiliary plug-in, (original Jeep unit is also included). The interior was completely stripped and cleaned with a new carpet and headliner installed. The steering wheel has been reconditioned and an updated center console was installed (original console will be also included). After twenty-six years on the road this Grand Wagoneer is in exceptional working order. The original engine was tuned up (plugs/wires/cap) and feels powerful and solid. The three speed transmission shifts smooth and on point. The cruise control and engagement of the 4wd both operate smoothly. The car drives straight and true, and the brakes and handling are all as they should be. This is an excellet opportunity to acquire what is arguably a quickly appreciating icon. Values are being driven to levels that were never expected and yet completely understandable from a collector's perspective. Whether this stellar example is to be used as a more frequent driver or as a fun alternative asset, if you're in the market for a Grand Wagoneer, it deserves your serious consideration. Gilles defends 2014 Jeep Cherokee design as "very contemporary"
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Following the forced-hand introduction of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, there has definitely been a mix of responses revolving around everything from its design to the return of the legendary nameplate. As evidence of this, just check out the 1,000+ comments in our article last week and some of the many opinions that were voiced. Following this not-too-warm reception, Ward's Auto had a chance to talk to Chrysler designer chief - and SRT president - Ralph Gilles, who shed a little more light on the styling direction of the new Cherokee.
Rather than looking to previous models for inspiration, Gilles says that the Cherokee has been designed to be more contemporary, with Mark Allen, head of Jeep design, adding that a main goal was to make sure the design still looks modern five years from now. Interestingly, Gilles does point out that one of the design elements incorporated on the new Cherokee that pays homage to past Jeeps is the sharply downward angle for the leading edge of the beltline, which he notes is meant to mimic the look of the old YJ and TJ Wrangler models fitted with half doors. Of course, the squared-off wheel openings - a signature Jeep cue - are still used.
This is probably a design that will need to be seen on the street in actual daylight to properly assess, but in the meantime, we'll bring you full images and impressions when the Cherokee debuts at next month's New York Auto Show.
Researchers who busted VW cheating say FCA's diesels dirty, too
Tue, Jun 13 2017The Wall Street Journal today reported on an upcoming report from West Virginia University's Center for Alternative Fuels Engines and Emissions, which is the same lab that investigated Volkswagen emissions cheating. The report, which will be released in a matter of weeks, alleges that 2014 and 2015 model year Jeep and Ram vehicles with diesel engines emit excess pollution. But it does not specify whether the company used defeat devices. Since the report discusses Jeep Grand Cherokees, and that engine is also available in the Ram 1500, it's safe to assume that one of the implicated engines is the EcoDiesel V6, a unit actually produced by VM Motori. It's unclear whether the report covers any of the Cummins engines used in heavier-duty Ram pickups. This report comes on the heels of a federal investigation into FCA's diesel vehicles. That investigation focused on the EcoDiesel engine used in 2014-2016 vehicles. The feds were seeking a fine of up to $4.6 billion. The EPA and the State of California also previously accused FCA of using a defeat device on the same vehicles back in January. FCA, for its part, alleges that the WVU study might have been commissioned by people interested in suing the company, and disputes the testing methodology, according to the WSJ. We've reached out to WVU to confirm which engines are implicated in its study and will update this post when we have more to share. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Jeep spied testing new compact crossover
Tue, Nov 24 2015Jeep is preparing a new crossover to slot in between the Renegade and Cherokee. Spied here for the first time, the new model is expected to arrive sometime around the middle of the new year. And with it, FCA's off-road brand will finally have a successor for the Compass and Patriot. From the little bit we can project at this early stage, the new C-segment Jeep is expected to ride on a modified version of the platform that underpins the Renegade and Fiat 500X. Motivation is tipped to come from the company's new 2.0-liter turbocharged Hurricane inline-four mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. We expect it to come in front and all-wheel-drive versions. The big question mark at this point is what the vehicle will be called. As the replacement for both the Compass and the Patriot, this model could adopt either nameplate – or it could wear a new one entirely. If the Renegade and 500X are anything to go by, the new Jeep could be offered as a Fiat as well, which could easily be dubbed the 500XL. We'll have to wait and see, but in the meantime you can check out the prototype – albeit in camouflaged form – in the image gallery above. Related Video:
