This “woody” is a reliable daily driver. It required basic maintenance only and I have the records that document this. The motor starts easy and runs strong. I am willing to drive and deliver the limo anywhere in the continental U.S. for a charge of $2.75 per mile. Properly tuned this Jeep averages 12 MPG. This is one of the first 12 luxury SUV limos ever produced. They were featured in Time magazine, July 15, 1985.

Text from the article follows:

Last week in Denver, Auto Dealer Jerry Morris unveiled his own very different vision of automotive high life, American-style. Equipped with a bar and Baccarat crystal, trimmed with teak and priced at $50,000, Morris' showpiece is a 19-ft.-long Jeep station wagon. The dealer bills it as the world's first stretch limousine with four-wheel drive. Morris' theory is that off-road travel should be comfortable. Said he: "People have said to me, 'Wouldn't it be nice if there were a luxury car that could be used to go through the mountains in bad weather?' With this vehicle, if we have two feet of snow, you still won't be stranded."
The luxury car is a stretched version of American Motors' Grand Wagoneer, a favorite of skiers and suburbanites. The fancier touches include a built-in champagne bucket and an 8-in. color television, but for rugged back-country terrain, the four-wheel limo also features an electronic shock-absorption system. Morris expects to find buyers for his Jeep limo among oil-well owners and ski-tour operators.

This “Colorado Cadillac” is approximately 95% original as delivered from the coachbuilder. The original fog lights were replaced by 100 watt KC driving lights. The “wag-sag” common with all Wagoneers was remedied by professionally installing a 4” Skyjacker “Soft-Ride” suspension lift including 4 new spring packs with 9-way adjustable Rancho 9000x shocks. The vinyl top was replaced as necessary on all Wagoneer limos. This top needs replacing again. The high altitude sun was hard on it. Fore and aft of the stretched section, the truck is a stock, loaded 1986 Jeep Grand Wagoneer with working 4WD including High/Low range. The car is currently out-of-service and stored indoors.

The problems I am aware of are rust, scratches, dings, and common oil/fluid leaks. There is wear as the limo is 28 years old. We removed components of the A/C and Emissions Systems to improve fuel efficincy. The car rented for $85/hr. before it was garaged. The coach passed the Colorado Public Utilities safety and condition inspection required for professional use. No special license or insurance is required in Colorado to drive this car privately.

I have more information, statistics and history on these historic vehicles and will be happy to share it with the winning bidder. I can provide additional photos of cosmetics of the car upon request.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of Ronald Reagan’s Grand Wagoneer limousine I’d be grateful for any information on how to contact the current owner.

Here's a link to a video I shot of another Stretch Jeep I recently sold.

Woodward Dream Cruise Photo Gallery | Classics and American muscle

Sun, Aug 21 2022

The 2022 running of the Woodward Dream Cruise just went down, and we were there from morning to evening drinking in the sweet sights and pre-emissions exhaust fumes. Yes, it’s a little smelly on Woodward Ave. this time of year. Just like always, the Dream Cruise invites all comers to cruise their machines on Woodward from Ferndale, MI to Pontiac, MI. Everybody is invited, but the original intent of the Dream Cruise was to highlight classic American muscle cars. YouÂ’ll see plenty of those in our mega gallery above, but weÂ’ve sprinkled it with a bunch of other vehicle types, such as modern muscle and other intriguing American vehicles. Similar to years past, though, sometimes the classics arenÂ’t the most entertaining thing to look at on Woodward. ThatÂ’s why weÂ’ll have other mega galleries coming soon, highlighting the weird cars and (great) dogs of the Cruise, all the imports and exotics you can imagine and a special one for all the trucks of Woodward — perhaps even more so than in years past, the truck population on Dream Cruise day was quite high. Click through above to see all the classics you wouldÂ’ve seen had you been roadside on the day of the cruise. And if you missed this yearÂ’s event, make sure you check out what happens next year. You wonÂ’t be alone, as itÂ’s estimated that over 1 million people attend the Dream Cruise to either watch from the side of the road or to sit in the most glorious traffic jam in the world. Chrysler banks $507 million in Q2, trims 2013 earnings forecast

Tue, 30 Jul 2013

Chrysler has some good news and some bad news. First, profits were up 16 percent over the second quarter of 2012, bringing the Auburn Hills, Michigan-based manufacturer $507 million on the back of strong demand for trucks and SUVs (a recurring theme this quarter, particularly in the US). Q2 revenue was up as well, from $16.8 billion in 2012 to $18 billion in 2013. The bad news is that the Pentastar's overall earnings forecast for net income in 2013 has been trimmed from $2.2 billion to between $1.7 and $2.2 billion, according to Automotive News.
In addition to the adjusted net income forecast, Chrysler tweaked its operating profit from $3.8 billion to between $3.3 and $3.8 billion. This has gone largely unexplained by Chrysler, perhaps hoping the news of a three-percent increase in its transaction prices for Q2 will allow it to sweep this adjustment under the rug.
The star of the show for Chrysler has been its US sales, which saw a 10-percent jump, both bettering the industry average of eight percent and improving over the same stretch of 2012. As with the increase in transaction prices, Chrysler has the new Ram pickup and Jeep Grand Cherokee to thank. Perhaps most worrying from this report, though, is that every brand in the automaker's stable saw an increase in sales... except for the Chrysler brand itself.

NHTSA closes book on Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall after all

Mon, 20 Jan 2014

After much debating and hand-wringing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now says it has "no reservations" with Chrysler's plan to recall certain Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee models over concerns that their fuel tanks, which are located behind the rear axle, could rupture or leak in the event of a rear impact. The longstanding argument between the two entities saw Chrysler openly defy the Feds after a request to recall 2.7 million units back in June.
Chrysler's "voluntary campaign" will instead see it recall 1.56-million 1993-2004 model year Grand Cherokee SUVs, along with 2002-2007 Liberty models. Affected vehicles will get a trailer hitch installed free of charge, which Chrysler says will provide an additional degree of protection for the fuel tanks in the event of a crash. Jeeps with Mopar-branded hitches or hitches that were installed at the factory aren't affected by this recall.
Chrysler's argument throughout this battle has been that the Jeeps in question are no more susceptible to fires than comparable vehicles from the same time period, a position that NHTSA has seemingly arrived at as well. "Those vehicles performed at a rate similar to their peers. That is the keystone analysis as to whether something poses an unreasonable risk to safety," said outgoing NHTSA boss David Strickland during an interview with the The Associated Press.
