This 1984 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is in great shape for its year! This vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition, starts right up and drives great! Most everything on this vehicle is all original, and is in amazing condition for its age, this vehicle is reliable enough to be a daily driver and classic enough to be a head turner!
The engine and transmission appear to be all original and are in great working condition, carburetor has been reconditioned at some point and normal maintenance appears to have been performed. Transmission shifts smoothly with no fluid leaks, brakes all are in good working condition, 4WD works as it should, the AC system is also original and is nice and cold!
The interior is in great shape for its age, driver seat shows some cracking, otherwise all the seats are in nice shape, carpet is original and in good condition, as is the rest of the interior. There is one spot in the rear cargo area that has some discoloration, otherwise its quite nice inside.
Body is in good shape, no rust on the underside of the vehicle, there may have been some rust repair at some point as the paint on the roof is a different shade starting at about 1/3 of the way down the roof. It feels solid though and doesn't appear to have any existing problems. Paint shines very well, as you can tell the woodgrain decals need to be replaced, but its still a good looking vehicle.
There are some areas that we know of that need attention. The power windows all work but the motors sound like they are really laboring hard to put the windows up and down, it seems that the guides for the windows need to be lubricated or maybe some window motors replaced. The power locks work, though sometimes the driver door actuator does not work. Also it seems that a lot of the weatherstripping should be replaced as it is dried out. Also the interior switch for the tail gate window does not work, but it does work from the key switch in the tail gate. I'm sure there are a few other small things that I've forgotten about but this vehicle is in great running and driving condition.

FCA's shifter fiasco proves novel gear selectors are a bad idea

Tue, Feb 9 2016

What's wrong with PRNDL? Why are automakers trying to overly complicate the simple task of selecting gears? If there's any lesson to learn from the recent news that NHTSA is investigating 853,000 Fiat Chrysler vehicles over its problematic gear selectors, it's that the trend of fancy shifters needs to stop. Now. Last year, NHTSA opened an investigation into Jeep Grand Cherokee models, and has now expanded this probe to include the 2012-14 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger. The problem? The shifter – assembled by ZF – is confusing for many drivers. "Testing ... indicates that operation of the (electronic) shifter is not intuitive and provides poor tactile and visual feedback to the driver, increasing the potential for unintended gear selection," a NHTSA document states. More than 100 crashes and over a dozen injuries are linked to this problem, according to The Detroit Free Press. To us, the problem isn't just limited to FCA. These unnecessarily novel gear selectors are spreading like wildfire across the industry. Honda and Acura use a weird pushbutton setup. Lincolns have buttons on the dashboard. Jaguar's shifter electronically raises out of the center console. Mercedes uses a stalk with up-for-Reverse, down-for-Drive, push-for-Neutral arrangement. And what the hell is BMW thinking with its M cars? FCA has since abandoned the confusing shifters in question. The 300, Charger, and Grand Cherokee now use the rotary shift dial that's quickly proliferating across the company's brands. Simplistic gear selectors might not be sexy, but no one ever complained about not being able to find the right gear in a Hyundai Sonata. What's most interesting is that this NHTSA investigation could push FCA – and possibly other automakers – to redesign vehicle functions that otherwise operate as designed. Just because most people will never have a problem putting a Dodge Charger in Reverse doesn't mean there isn't a flaw with the design. But perhaps a more simplistic solution – good ol' PRNDL – would have prevented these issues from the start. Hank the Autodog takes a ride in the long-term 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Wed, May 13 2015

Autoblog readers, meet Hank, my 40-pound, six-year-old Shar Pei and Staffordshire Terrier mix, a combination also known as a Pit Bull. Pit Bulls and car enthusiasts have a lot in common. They're a little intimidating to your average man on the street, but at the end of the day all they want to do is feel the breeze in their ears. Dogs who love car rides are the ultimate enthusiasts, and Hank especially is a canine connoisseur of cars. There is nothing Hank likes more than to hop in and go for a ride. With an owner like me, he has developed refined tastes when it comes to cars. As our long-term Jeep Cherokee is about to leave the Autoblog Garage, and since the weather is warming back up, it's the perfect time to give our Autodog one last spin in his favorite Jeep. We wanted to see what a car ride looks like from a dog's perspective. Luckily, we have a cache of GoPros and plenty of cars on hand to give Hank one last chance to go for a window-down ride. After many pets, treats, and drives around town, we put together this video montage of Hank's best day ever.

Watch this Jeep Willys return to its birthplace after 70 years

Sun, 23 Jun 2013

Earlier this month, a very significant Jeep was celebrated at the Toledo North Assembly plant. No, it wasn't the upcoming reincarnation of the Jeep Cherokee, but instead it was a 1943 Willys MB that visited the Toledo grounds where it had been built exactly 70 years ago to the day.
Of course, the actual building where the MBs rolled off the assembly line before heading to Europe for World War II no longer exists, but that didn't stop Italian owner Vittorio Argento from having the vehicle shipped to the US to make its trek back to its birth place. According to Chrysler, Argento's MB is still 95-percent original and it drove 1,000 miles from New Jersey to Toledo.
The whole adventure was chronicled on a blog aptly named A Jeep Comes Home. Scroll down for a brief video from Chrysler and for some photos of the Toledo visit and be sure to read more at Argento's blog.
