This Jeep Wagoneer Limited has just undergone a full restoration by Zephyr's Speed Shop of Enoch Utah. It started with a motor and transmission swap. The drivetrain is a 5.3L Vortec motor and a 4L60E transmission that came out of a 2003 Chevy Tahoe with about 90,000 miles. The engine and transmission were then rebuilt by Anderson Machine Shop and St George Transmission of Cedar City Utah. The transmission was built for towing and heavy duty applications. By use of an adapter/clocking ring, this Jeep has retained its NP208 transfer case (that was rebuilt and resealed) for full selectable 2hi, 4hi, N, 4lo 4-wheel drive capabilities. New custom heavy duty drive-shafts were also installed. The front Dana 44 and rear AMC 20 axles were inspected and resealed. New fluids throughout the vehicle. New brakes, rotors and drums all around. Stops great. The front axle was rebuilt with high performance brass Warn hubs. Suspension was all rebuilt with Procomp shocks on all corners and a small 2” lift. This Jeep now has the ride height of a stock Tahoe or Yukon. All of the parts required to perform this drive train swap properly came from Novak Adapters out of Logan Utah. The engine mounts, wiring harness, computer tune, air intake, headers, adapters, aluminum radiator/electric fan assembly and everything else needed for this swap all came from Novak. Their parts are great quality and designed and engineered for this exact application. Custom 3" Magnaflow exhaust is a nice and quiet system that sounds great. With these performance parts, this motor is putting out about 350 horsepower. Tons of power and torque to tow and off-road to your hearts content. This Wagoneer also gets great gas mileage at about 23 miles per gallon on the freeway at 80 mph (2000 RPM's).
The paint color is Heritage Brown and looks great. This Jeep is rust free. The undercarriage has been lined with truck bed liner. The interior is Pecan and Briarwood two-tone leather. Custom leather wrapped dash, seats, door panels (the steering wheel still needs new leather wrap). New carpet, custom floormats, and headliner. The entire interior has been covered in Dynamat prior to interior installation, is sealed and is very quiet. All new 31X10.5R15 BFGoodrich All Terrain tires. This is a beautiful Jeep that runs nice and smooth down the road. I have entered several car shows with it since it was finished 4 months ago and have won two trophies. A second and a third place in the “Custom Truck” class at two separate shows.

I have been in love with the Jeep Wagoneer body style for a long time. I wanted to have one built as if it was a modern day car. This Jeep has all the options one would want. Power seats, power windows and locks (a few windows run slow from the new weatherstripping). Fuel injection and modern drive train. New proper ride height. I believe this is a great representation of what Jeep would be doing if they were still making this same body style.

There are a few things that I ran out of money before they were finished. The cruise control has not been set up. The switch and wiring is there, but the “box” will need to be installed and hooked up under the hood (about $200). The AC system is also all there. The compressor, dryer, condenser, everything is there. It needs custom hoses made and to be charged ($500). There are no speakers in the Jeep. The CD player is installed and speaker wire is run to each speaker location, but there are no speakers installed ($200). Emergency events kept me from having this car finished and are forcing this sale.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you want more pictures.

NYIAS: 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, ooh-rah!

Tue, Apr 5 2016

I was very happy to see Jeep offer a stand-alone, off-road-oriented model to the Grand Cherokee for 2017, the Trailhawk. This is not the first time for a GC Trailhawk, as they offered a limited run a few years ago to see if there might be a market for such a model. Looks like there is, as there are Trailhawk models for the Cherokee and Renegade, and now the Grand Cherokee as well. Just to be clear here, Jeep has always offered off-road ready packages (tow hooks, one inch more ground clearance, skid plates) for the Grand Cherokee and Cherokee in the past. They were called "Up Country," or more recently, "Off Road" groups. That was all well and good but, at least where I was living, almost impossible to find. Rarely would you ever find one so-equipped on dealer lots. If you ever saw one on the street, most likely the owner special-ordered it. Having said that, now that I'm living by the beach, I am seeing a few Up Country-equipped older Jeeps; not many, but more than I've seen in the past. As to the new Cherokee and Renegade Trailhawks; I'm seeing a bunch of them. It took a little while for the public to discover this trim level, but now I see them everywhere. Must be the orange tow hooks? Speaking of orange tow hooks... I'm not a big fan of them. Tow hooks for sure, orange ones, not so much; same with the matte black hood decal, not a fan. If I were ever to get a Trailhawk, it would be either dark gray or black, as that effectively hides the hood decal. So Jeep has packaged the Trailhawk as a premium model within each respective model line. While I fully understand the thinking, I do wish Jeep would also offer an entry-level off-road model, one with all the Trailhawk off-road goodness, but minus all the visual and luxury fluff. A lot of off-roaders don't want to pay, or can't pay top dollar for stuff they don't want or need. As to a name, how about "Trail," that being Trailhawk minus the "hawk;" or perhaps "Pioneer?" That's an old name from Cherokees of yesteryear. Back then the Pioneer was positioned as a mid-low level model. I think either name would work well for a back-to-basics-off-road-focused Cherokee and/or Renegade. Content it like the current entry-level Sport or mid-level Latitude models, but include the Trailhawk's off-road prowess. The Grand Cherokee should probably pass on that suggestion, as it would run counter to that model's high-end image. Related Video: Image Credit: Jeep Jeep open road

Making the Compatriot the Jeep we want - and deserve

Fri, Jul 8 2016

If you're one of the hottest brands in the world, and you need to replace two vehicles that sell at a rate of nearly 200k a year, what exactly are you going to do? Do you take the safe route and attempt to mirror what has largely kept you a success thus far, or do you improve on the formula, and better sort your lineup? After 10 years with the Jeep Compass and Patriot, it is time for both to hang up their jackets and go in for the long dirt nap. And what a strange 10 years it's been. Born of the age of Diamler-Chrysler, the "Merger of equals," the Compass and Patriot were brought into this world to shore up sales of Jeep worldwide, pull on the heartstrings of former Cherokee owners, and make sure teenage girls had an affordable crossover to buy in just a few years. As much as I like to throw shade at each model on both subjective and objective basis, I truly find the purpose of each vehicle to be relatively endearing. For less than $22,000, you could (that is, if you could find one) walk out of your local Jeep dealer with a 4x4 crossover, with a manual gearbox, decent all-weather performance, and somewhat respectable fuel economy. This of course ignores the fact that they weren't packaged all that well, based on the outrageously terrible Dodge Caliber, and used all those shared bits and bobs with Mitsubishi that should have been shelved by 2010. Yet, the twins lived on, and on, and on. We've heard stories as far back as 2012 that they weren't long for our world, and then we get news that they're making it through 2017. Just in time for the "Compatriot" to arrive. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out what Jeep intends to do with the Compatriot. As far as most blogs seem to know, we're getting a Compass and Patriot replacement that is based on the already well-received Renegade. A little bit of a stretch on the chassis will certainly aid in ride quality, and the Grand Cherokee styling cues will give it a much more upscale demeanor. Even the interior has looked very well executed, with a positively huge uConnect screen set in the middle of the dash. Could Jeep actually be trying to take their Compass and Patriot replacement significantly more up the product chain? I certainly hope so. If you pilot your browser over to the Jeep configurators, you might be surprised by how low the base prices are on almost all of their products. Less than $30k for a new Cherokee? A Renegade for just under $18k? What a deal!

Stellantis is official: FCA and PSA merger finally sealed

Sat, Jan 16 2021

MILAN — Fiat Chrysler and PSA sealed their long-awaited merger on Saturday to create Stellantis, the world's fourth-largest auto group with deep enough pockets to fund the shift to electric driving and take on bigger rivals Toyota and Volkswagen. It took over a year for the Italian-American and French automakers to finalize the $52 billion deal, during which the global economy was upended by the COVID-19 pandemic. They first announced plans to merge in October 2019, to create a group with annual sales of around 8.1 million vehicles. "The merger between Peugeot S.A. and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. that will lead the path to the creation of Stellantis N.V. became effective today," the two automakers said in a statement. Shares in Stellantis, which will be headed by current PSA Chief Executive Carlos Tavares, will start trading in Milan and Paris on Monday, and in New York on Tuesday. Now analysts and investors are turning their focus to how Tavares plans to address the huge challenges facing the group – from excess production capacity to a woeful performance in China. Tavares will hold his first press conference as Stellantis CEO on Tuesday, after ringing NYSE's bell with Chairman John Elkann. FCA and PSA have said Stellantis can cut annual costs by over 5 billion euros ($6.1 billion) without plant closures, and investors will be keen for more details on how it will do this. Marco Santino, a partner at consultants Oliver Wyman, said he expected Tavares to disclose the outlines of his action plan soon, but without divulging too many details at first. "He has proven to be the kind of person who prefers action to words, so I don't think he will make loud statements or try to over-sell targets," he said. Like all global automakers, Stellantis needs to invest billions in the years ahead to transform its vehicle range for the electric era. But other pressing tasks loom, including reviving the group's lagging fortunes in China, rationalizing its huge global empire and addressing massive overcapacity. "It will be a step by step process, also to allow the market to better appreciate every single move. I don't think we will have all the details before one year," Santino said.
