This 1972 Jeep Wagoneer is in pretty decent shape, but the mileage shown above I am certain is not accurate. I have driven it a bit locally, but considering that it is 40 years old, and had sat for awhile before I bought it, I would not recommend any long trips just yet. The Jeep's last tour of duty was as a hunting truck in the mountains, but the owner had not been able to hunt for a few years, and decided to sell her. She has a 360 cu.in. V8, a TH400 transmission, part-time 4wd, locking hubs, and I installed a good set of used 30x9.50-15 Kumho all-terrain tires. The Carb has been rebuilt, a new fuel pump & filter installed, and an aircleaner, as the original is missing the correct top. (but is included in the sale.) There is a bit of rust on the rear quarter panels, not so much on the left as the right, where there is also some collision damage. (should be visible in the photos.) The floor is in really good shape, pretty much just surface rust on the rest of the body, especially the hood. Guess the new term is "patina". In the past, someone installed RV carpeting, I was planning to rhino-line the floor, but plans change I guess. All the glass is good, only very slight hazing in a few corners, the door windows all roll up & down, but the power window in the tailgate needs help in both directions. Headlights & taillights work, as does the horn and brake lights, but the turn signals do not, and the dash lights do as they please. The suspension has what I've heard called "Wag sag", but am including a set of "add-a-leaf" springs (supposed to be good for a 1.5-2 in. lift) that I planned to install, but haven't had a chance. The radiator will need some attention, and the exhaust is...well...comical. It runs the length of the vehicle, but is a patchwork of pieces, but hey, it's there. I don't want to make her sound bad, but want to be honest, she's pretty solid, but she's gonna need some work. I think she'd be a great project, and alot of fun, as I really enjoyed her while I've had her. I took her to some hills outside of town, where alot of guys (and gals) go 4wheeling, and she did great! I didn't "tear it up", but we tackled a couple pretty good hills, and she ran like a champ! Sure-footed as a goat! I don't think building a show car is realistic, but  for a handsome, fun, Real off-road truck for hunting, camping, fishing, or whatever, she'd be just the ticket! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. I expect her new owner to either pick her up, or arrange (and pay for) shipping, and I would prefer paypal, but will consider certified or cashier's checks. Please contact me for anything other than paypal. I will need a $500 deposit within 48hrs. of the sale, and full payment within 7 days of the sale, thank you very much for looking, I hope you can give the old gal a new home.

Auto critic calls out Corvette, Mustang and Cherokee faithful

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

Most automotive purists fear change, but not without reason. Change, after all, did kill big-block V8s, along with most station wagons and manual transmissions. But change has also brought with it far more performance, safety and fuel economy - not to mention ridding the world of shag carpet interiors, bias-ply tires and those horrible motorized seatbelts of the early '90s.
By this time next year, the Chevy Corvette, Jeep Cherokee and next-generation Ford Mustang will all be on sale and will all, in some way, have angered or offended purists. To those critics, Mark Phelan of the Detroit Free Press is preemptively telling them to stop complaining - at least until they've all been driven. From the Corvette's square taillights and the Cherokee's radical nose to whatever pony car purists will harp on the 2015 Mustang for, Phelan's column points out the positives of automotive evolution and the negatives of staying the course for too long. That's fair enough, but do you think Phelan is on point, or all wet? Head on over to the Detroit Free Press to read his words, then have your say in Comments.

Australian Jeep marketing stunt goes awry [w/video]

Tue, 15 Jul 2014

Jeep fans in Australia are none too happy with the off-road brand following a contest that saw ten new Cherokees sold for just $10,000 Australian (about $9,400), roughly a quarter of the vehicle's price Down Under.
The contest, called the "World's Most Remote Dealership," gave Aussies the chance to snag an ultra-affordable Cherokee Longitude (analogous to the US-spec Latitude trim), provided they could get to a secret dealership in the remote wilderness of western New South Wales, near the border with the state of South Australia.
In order to get the exact location of the dealership, though, potential customers needed to download an app, which would release a phone number 9:00 AM AEST on Thursday (7:00 PM EDT, Wednesday night). The first ten people who could call in and prove they could afford to finance $10,000 and get to the remote dealership, were given the location of the remote dealership.

Autoblog Minute: FCA issues Uconnect software update amid hacking fears

Carjacking has gone wireless, as automakers and Congress scramble for a solution after a disturbing video on Wired showed a pair of researchers controlling a Jeep Cherokee remotely. Autoblog's Adam Morath and David Gluckman report on this edition of Autoblog Minute. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] Carjacking has gone wireless, as automakers and Congress scramble for a solution. I'm Adam Morath and this is your Autoblog Minute. Cars with wireless connections are susceptible to remote hacking, as demonstrated in a disturbing video on Wired.com. The segment showed two researchers remotely controlling a Jeep Cherokee, including running vehicle's the wipers, turning up the music, and ultimately shutting down [00:00:30] the Jeep while it was being driven on the highway by Wired senior writer Andy Greenberg. Washington took note. A press release issued from the desks of senators Ed Markey and Richard Blumenthal introduces legislation protecting drivers from auto security privacy risks. Fiat Chrysler, parent company of Jeep, has a solution for its customers. For more we go to Autoblog's David Gluckman. [GLUCKMAN INTERVIEW] Chrysler has worked with the Uconnect cellular provider Sprint to plug security holes on the carrier side. The vehicles themselves can't be updated wirelessly, so [00:01:00] the remaining changes require physical access. For that, customers have three options: One, download the Uconnect software update to a USB stick and install. Two, wait for FCA to send a USB stick with the latest software that they can install, or third, visit a dealer. Owners should do what they're most comfortable with. I made a video that walks through the whole process from download to install and it took about a half hour. [MORATH] David's full video tutorial of how to install the Uconnect fix can be seen on Autoblog. [00:01:30] It remains to be seen how the rest of the auto industry will respond to these security risks. For Autoblog, I'm Adam Morath.
