1979 Jeep Cj 5 Automatic 350 Ci V8 Chevy on 2040-cars

For sale ONLY on eBay - Highest bidder wins! This is my wife's toy. She has a clear title in hand. This is the 8th Jeep we have owned and the coolest of them all. My wife wanted a toy that looked good, sounded good, is fun to drive and that she could drop the top and take to the local cruise in. She has owned this Jeep going on three years and due to health issues she does not get to enjoy it enough to keep it. The Jeep is always garage kept and gets a lot of attention everywhere it goes. This Jeep started it's life as a 1979 CJ5 Renegade. A few years back the owner before us did a complete frame off restoration lifted the Jeep and professionally added a new 350 Chevy V8 with a TH350 automatic transmission, B & M shifter with reverse lock out and a Ford 9 inch rear end. This included advance adapters and a full Painless wiring harness. Current mileage showing on the odometer since new motor and complete rebuild is 20,927 as of today. This could change slightly as I try to drive it a few miles every weekend. Since we have owned it we replaced the steering wheel, fully updated the windshield wiper system, added leather front race seats and the rock slider rails to the sides as steps. We also last year completely updated the fuel system from the tank to the carburator with new sending unit, hoses, filter, electric pump, pressure regulator and dash mounted electric switch for the pump. We upgraded and added new oil pressure, water temperature and volt meter gauges to the dash and added a steering mounted tachometer. The Jeep received a complete tune up in December with plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, etc. Just last week it got an engine oil change and filter, a new transmission filter and fluid and the front differential fluid was changed. The Jeep starts right up and drives and shifts as it should. It has manual lock out hubs on the front axle and the four wheel drive system works as it should in both high and low range. Everything works on the Jeep and it just passed North Carolina inspection last month with no problems. Three things to mention are the horn does work but only if the steering wheel is turned slightly left or right. The cam button needs to be replaced in the steering column. These can usually be purchased around $10.00. The factory fuel gauge does also work but it not 100% accurate. It reads full when filled up but gets to empty before all the fuel is used up. I thought the new sending unit would correct that but it did not. It has a 15 gallon tank and usually only takes 8 to 10 gallons when showing empty. The four wheel drive indicator light is not hooked. You simply shift into four wheel low or high by feel and know when you are in four wheel drive. The tires have less than 2000 miles on them with plenty of tread left. They are Mickey Thompson 33 x 12.50. This Jeep is LOUD with the headers and side pipes! Warn 9000 Lb Winch w/ hand held remote that easily reaches to the drivers seat. Full custom welded roll bar. Power Steering / Power Brakes / Tilt steering The full top and soft doors are in very good condition and it also comes with a bikini top. The paint really shines. There is a small ding on top of both front fenders and one on the hood. There are a couple of paint chips on the drivers side entry that are covered when the soft doors are on. I had a leak around the transmission pan gasket and purchased a new cast aluminum extra capacity pan. Unfortunately it would not clear the front drive shaft. I changed the fluid and filter and added a new gasket but still have a very slight leak on the drivers side front corner. I just torqued the bolts slightly more and hope this resolves the issue but fell a new pan is needed. I'll let the pictures speak for the rest. You are welcome to come and drive and inspect the Jeep before bidding. Please feel free to ask any questions. I will respond promptly and post all answers here for everyone to see. Happy Bidding |

The fascinating history of the Popemobile
Tue, Sep 22 2015Pope Francis will be arriving today in the US for a variety of stops, including the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, PA. While here, the Pontiff won't be riding in the usual Mercedes-Benz Popemobile, but instead will make a more American switch to a modified Jeep Wrangler, according to the Washington Post. It'll feature a protected front, top, and rear, but the sides will be open for His Holiness to see the throngs of people gathering for him. For hundreds of years, Popes were transported in horse-drawn carriages or sometimes carried in an enclosed chair by footmen, but His Holiness finally traded for some real horsepower in 1929. While his ride sometimes varied depending on the country being visited, a Mercedes-Benz was generally the common choice. However, the Pontiffs have ridden in everything from a modified GMC Sierra to a Ferrari Mondial over the past few decades. Pope Francis has definitely preferred more plebeian transportation, though, including a Renault 4 running on biofuel. A trip to South Korea even put him in a Kia Soul, and he opted for an Isuzu D-Max in the Philippines. The Post's whole list is quite a fun read, and it's fascinating to see how the Popemobiles evolve over time. Related Video:
Jeep Chief and Wrangler Red Rock Responder teased ahead of Easter Jeep Safari
Thu, Mar 12 2015Jeep is being coy about it's lineup for the 2015 Moab Easter Jeep Safari, releasing just a pair of shots and an exceptionally brief press release on two of the seven concepts coming to the desert later this month. So, what can we glean from the limited assets that have been given to us? Well, as we said, we know Jeep is bringing seven vehicles to its big festival. We also know the names of two vehicles, shown above – there's the Chief and the Wrangler Red Rock Responder. Which is which? A fair question. We're betting the second image is the Wrangler-based Red Rock Responder. As for the Chief, well, we've absolutely no idea what to expect there. Jeep's Moab concepts generally include the model name on which their based – see the Grand Cherokee Trail Warrior and Cherokee Dakar from last year, or even the Wrangler Red Rock Responder, mentioned above. There's no such moniker on the Chief. As for the Chief's illustrated teaser image, as we said, it doesn't reveal much. The body is angular, and quite Jeep like, with squared-off wheel arches and decidedly old-school taillights. Beyond that, though, we don't have much to go on. Expect much more not just on the Chief and Red Rock Responder, but on all seven of the concepts Jeep is bringing to Moab. The party starts on March 28 and runs until April 5. Be sure to check back then for full coverage. Related Video:
Another crazy custom Jeep Wrangler spotted in Morocco
Sun, 03 Mar 2013What in the world is the vehicle you see above? Well, um... yeah. We have no idea. According to the video description from YouTube, however, it's a modified Jeep Wrangler, and it comes from the same person who created the equally insane side-by-side merged Wrangler you saw here.
We can clearly make out the Wrangler-shaped passenger compartment up top, but as for the other bits and pieces that make up this rather amazing machine, your guess is as good as ours. At the very least, it seems to us that the car's wheelbase has been given a significant stretch, and the grille may have come from an International LoneStar Harley-Davidson Special Edition semi truck.
What other components are sourced from the massive International hauler? No idea. We suggest you check out the video below and draw your own conclusions. Oh, and if you've got any other ideas, feel free to let us know in the Comments.
