I am selling my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I have owned this Jeep for a little over 4 years and have recently bought a truck so I no longer need this jeep. Overall this Jeep has been a very dependable vehicle for me over the past 4 years. As you can see the Jeep comes with all leather, dual powered seats, cruise control, radio dials on steering, power locks, power windows, tilt steering, rear defrost, 4x4, a towing hitch and trailer light hookup (I added myself), the chrysler Infinity sound system (stock), both driver and passenger airbags and side airbags. The Jeep will have around 172,000 miles by the end of this auction being that is my everyday driver still (keeping the miles off my truck). I have never had any mechanical issues with this jeep besides having to replace the battery 2 years ago. I do have an aftermarket high flow air filter on it. If you would like pictures under the hood I will be happy to send them to you. I just havent got the chance to take any yet. Being that this Jeep is 10 years old it does have a chip in the paint on driver door (seen in pictures), a little rust patch on the rear driver side fender, and a crack in the front bumper (some elderly lady accidently bumped into me in Wal-Mart parking lot and with it being a plastic bumper it cracked it at the seem, it is nothing serious and does not affect the Jeep in any way. I generally get around 18 mpg driving back and forth to work and around 21 mpg on the interstate. The motor runs like a champ, these inline 6 motors are known for durability and dependability, never an issue with it at all. As you can see in the picture of the dash there is an error light that is on. It has been on for the last 50,000 miles and does not cause any issues at all. I took it to a Jeep dealer and had a scanner put on it and the code that came through said it had a small crack in the vac system. The dealer said generally in these SUV's the hose on the gas tanks can get small cracks in it or it can be as simple as the gas cap itself causing the error. I never put on a new gas cap just because it never affected the Jeep at all. The tires have about 40% tred left on them so they are not brand new by any means but still have some miles left in them for sure. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I am sure I am missing something so please ask all the questions you want. Thanks for your interest. Happy bidding!

Jeep in St. Louis hacked from Pittsburgh

Tue, Jul 21 2015

One of America's most popular vehicles contains a security flaw that allows hackers to remotely commandeer it from anywhere on the planet. Cyber-security researchers Chris Valasek and Charlie Miller say they've accessed critical vehicle controls on a 2014 Jeep Cherokee that allowed them to remotely control critical vehicle functions like braking, transmission function, and steering. Automakers have downplayed the possibility a car could be remotely compromised, but the significance of the findings detailed Tuesday could cause them to reevaluate the threats posed to hundreds of thousands of vehicles already on the road. A key finding – the pair needed no physical access to the Jeep to pull off the attack. Valasek and Miller accessed the controls via a security hole in the Sprint cellular connection to Chrysler's UConnect infotainment system. In the course of their research, Valasek sat in his Pittsburgh home and remotely manipulated Miller's Jeep as he drove along a highway outside St. Louis. If you know a car's IP address, they say, a hacker could control it from anywhere. "We didn't add anything, didn't touch it," Valasek told Autoblog. "A customer could drive one of these things off a lot, and they'd have no clue it had these open attack surfaces." Remotely, he disabled brakes, turned the radio volume up, engaged windshield wipers and tampered with the transmission. Further, they could conduct surveillance on the Jeep, measuring its speed and tracking its whereabouts. They conducted the experiments over multiple breaches. They made their findings public on the same day the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the federal agency in charge of vehicle safety, released its latest report on the readiness of government and automakers to fend off these sorts of cyber attacks. Later today, two US Senators are expected to introduce legislation that would help consumers better understand the potential risks of car hacking. In the early stages of their research, Valasek and Miller found a security flaw in the car's wi-fi that allowed them to remotely manipulate controls from a range of about three feet. But in recent months, they found another vulnerability in the Sprint cellular connection in the UConnect system. That was a key breakthrough. "Lo and behold, we found we could communicate with this thing using cellular, and then more research, and 'Holy cow,' we're using the Sprint network to communicate with these vehicles," Valasek said.

Retro Review covers that Jeep Wrangler TJ you wanted in high school

Fri, May 8 2015

The Jeep Wrangler TJ holds a dear place in my heart. When they were introduced, the return to circular headlights helped pull my dad into the dealer, and he bought one. A few years later, I learned how to drive a stick in that Jeep. Now, MotorWeek has fired up the time machine for a look at the '97 Wrangler as part of the Retro Review series. One of the great things about these videos is that they offer a chance to see if nostalgia lives up to reality. In this situation, that seems to be the mostly case. Even when new, MotorWeek finds a lot to praise about the TJ, especially in terms of handling and style. It's not all perfect, though, with a major complaint about the braking. Watch the clip to see if the show's take on the Wrangler lives up to your memories of them, too.

Federal investigations about safety of rear-mounted gas tanks is nothing new

Sun, 09 Jun 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Chrysler are currently making waves in our daily news feeds due to a disagreement over the safety of a few million Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee models. Specifically, NHTSA has asked Chrysler to recall the SUVs because of the location of their fuel tanks, but you may be interested to know that requests such as this are nothing new.
Besides the two Jeep models, NHTSA has launched investigations over the years in such models as the Ford Crown Victoria (and its police-car counterpart), GM pickups built between 1972 and 1987, and rather famously the Ford Pinto.
Understanding how automakers and NHTSA have dealt with fuel-tank-safety concerns in the past may offer a better understanding of how Chrysler and the government agency will settle their current dispute. Check out the complete article from The Detroit News here.
