Time to sell my Grand Cherokee as I'm up to 5 cars for 2 people.

The vehicle is well equipped with 4.7L V8 engine, select-trac 4WD, anti-lock brakes, infinity stereo (cassette & CD), heated seats, power front seats (driver and passenger), A/C, power sunroof, towing package (class III), leather interior, remote keyless entry, factory alarm system, 60/40 split rear seat, auto dimming rear view mirror, heated side view mirrors, universal garage door opener, overhead console (compass/temp/trip computer), roof luggage rack, full size spare with alloy wheel, and rear window defroster and wiper.

I'm the second owner of the car and bought it in late 2002 with 20Kish miles. I have had no major engine or transmission problems as the car has been well maintained over the years and runs great. I ran synthetic oil in the car until about 125K miles. Last tune was about 105,000 miles. I have replaced the crankshaft sensor, A/C evaporator, and most recently (this year) the front and rear back brakes (rotors, calipers, and pads).  Tires are near new maybe 8 to 10K miles on them. The interior is in great condition. dash and console are like new. The back seats have hardly been sat in. Driver seat has normal wear but doesn't look like 12 years old. Passenger seat is in real good shape. It is 2-3 years into a 72 month battery. I bought the car in Connecticut so it spend 3 years of winters there before coming back to Florida in 2005. Paint is in good condition but the car has a couple of dings here or there and some localized rust. Car runs good, AC works, and it's in overall good condition.

Now for the mechanical and cosmetic issues. I have changed the driver and passenger side window regulators a total of 5 times. As an Engineer I finally decided to repair the replacement part before reinstalling them since the failure was always the same. Both sides have been hanging in there ever since. However, the drivers side rear regulator just failed. I have a 2x4 back there holding up the window. Air bag light is on. I got a recall notice over a year ago on the air bag system and indicated the light would come on but they couldn't repair them until they got parts. I haven't heard anything more about it. So one or both of the airbags might not work, not sure. Check engine light is on. It never stays off more than a month or so. I have had the problem since after buying the car. Jeep dealer could never fix it. I found a vacuum leak not long ago and got it to go away for a month. But it's back. I don't bother checking the code anymore since it doesn't seem to effect anything. Overhead console stopped working. It was intermittent at first then it died. The 12V receptacles did the same thing. I suspect a bad ground but I haven't bothered with it since I really never used them. Wheels are showing some surface corrosion...maybe New England salt? There is rust on the hood in 4 or 5 plcs. It rusted from the inside out so it looks like poor prep on the original paint. Same rust problem on the top at the sunroof which needs repair soon. The sunroof leaked this year and I just put silicone caulk on it to stop it. I have never used the sunroof except opening it when I bought it. Hood air springs don't hold up the hood anymore (broomstick works nicely). Lift gate air springs hold but won't last much longer. These are the reasons the car is priced right to sell.

KBB book value for fair condition is about $3900 and the car is in better shape than fair condition and I'm asking for less.

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango to lose color options temporarily

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

In the market for a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Dodge Durango? Well, if you fancy a more expressive color for your new SUV, you'd better get your order in, or plan on waiting until well into 2015.
The SUVs will be limited to just four monochromatic shades - black, white, silver and gray - until at least February, thanks to an upgrade to the paint shop at the two vehicles' Jefferson North factory. For the Grand Cherokee, that means it's losing more than half its color palette while the Durango is dropping two-thirds of its color catalog.
The loss of colors is inconvenient, but the upgrade will have a slightly bigger effect on the overall supply of SUVs, as Chrysler will need to end its relentless build pace at the factory for a three-week shutdown starting on December 22. The good news for fans of the SUVs is that once the work is completed, we should see a gradual expansion of the color palettes for both the Durango and Grand Cherokee, beyond even what's offered now.

Chrysler highlights Mopar lineup for SEMA

Wed, 30 Oct 2013

SEMA is all about aftermarket parts, and in Auburn Hills that all comes down to one name: Mopar. After having previewed its lineup for this year's Vegas tuner expo earlier this month, Chrysler has now revealed what may not quite be its full dossier of modified show cars, but a good portion of them.
All told Mopar is preparing 20 vehicles for display at SEMA this year. Among them you'll find the Ram Sun Chaser, a 1500 Quad Cab show truck kitted out in two-tone orange and black paint, a roof rack for surfboards, onboard shower and convertible tailgate. The white Fiat 500L is called the Adventurer and is modified for a more rugged look that could hint at the upcoming crossover version. The Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver upgrades on the Trailhawk package with everything from roof basket to rock rails. To counterbalance the off-roaders, there's also a modified Chrysler 300S with a deep black paint job, special grille, Varvatos-edition wheels and more.
All four concepts details so far have Katzkin interiors as well, and there's also an unspecified Dodge Durango with a storm-trooper look in the gallery above. But for more details on what Mopar has installed on the Ram, 500L, Cherokee and 300, you'll want to delve into the press release below.

Chrysler investing $20M in Toledo plant to support 9-speed auto production

Sun, 28 Apr 2013

In 2011, Chrysler announced a $72-million investment in its Toledo Machining Plant to modernize production of the eight- and nine-speed torque-converters for automatic transmissions made there. That upgrade work won't be finished until Q3 of this year, but Chrysler has already announced a further $19.6-million investment to increase production capacity for the nine-speeders.
The extra units will be necessary because the nine-speed transmission they'll be mated to is going into three popular models: it will debut on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, then go into the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart. The company predicted that this year alone it would sell 200,000 units equipped with the nine-speed tranny, and it is spending some $374 million in addition to the investment in Toledo to upgrade production capacity for it.
The work attached to this new investment won't begin until Q3 of 2014, and it will be finished by the end of that year. There's a press release below with all the details.
