I buy and sell 4X4 oil/gas fleet trucks and ship them all over the world. Some of the local dealers-mechanics-wholsalers I work with get older 4x4 trade ins that they are not willing to sell or finance on their lot because of age, miles, modifications, lift kits etc. This 1972 Jeep Commando belongs to a mechanic friend of mine, he took it in trade for payment and then started fixing it up. I have own and have owned a lot of vintage 4x4s, I know how they drive and can judge a good one from a bad one. If you are not familiar with vintage 4x4 vehicles that have been modified such as this I urge you to educate yourself before bidding. If you are local I urge you to inspect this Jeep in person, sold as is where is...    Good luck and happy bidding!!!!

Please read all of the ad below before you call me with questions or make on offer. As for questions, I'll always give you blunt, candid answers, I am happy to photograph anything you would like to see closer. I reserve the right to end this auction at anytime without warning as this Jeep is for sale locally, you are welcome to call and make me an offer.

I am located in Durango Colorado, I will consider helping with delivery within 100 miles for .85 a mile after the Jeep is paid for in full.

The Good Stuff:

Here's what I know so far, this old rig starts, runs and drives pretty darn good for being so big and modified. Under the hood is an excellent running 258 6 cylinder engine, is very dry, super clean, no leaks that I see, valve cover has been resealed, has a Weber carb, a wrapped Hedman header, clean custom exhaust with a Flowmaster Muffler (it sounds great) 4 speed trans, twin stick transfer case, clutch is good, brakes are decent, steering is pretty tight, windshield wipers work, fan motor under the dash works, all gauges work, overall very mechanically sound. Has custom Alcan springs, a SPOA lift, custom 6 point cage welded to the frame, some kind of aggressive rear locker (unsure of front) marine stereo/speakers, chrome fire extinguisher, 36-13-16 Super Swamper tires on alloy wheels, brand new Swamper spare tire, new race bucket seats, 4 point race harnesses, custom front/rear bumpers w/d-rings and receiver hitches, bikini top, heavy duty rock sliders, Optima red top battery, Hi-lift jack and more. This Jeep would make an awesome back country hunting rig, is quiet and creeps-crawls along really well for being 42 years old.

The Not So Good Stuff:

This Jeep is 42 years old and so there is some negative stuff to be expected. The biggest issue is that there is some "old rust in the front floor boards (see photos) We don't have rust in this part of Colorado, by "old rust" I mean it looks like it was caused by the original carpet and is no longer active. There is no rust or anything in the frame or underside, only where there was carpet inside. There are scratches, scrapes, some old primer on the front passenger fender (see photos) a few dents-dings etc as you would expect on a rig built to be used like this. There is a "gash" on the backside of the radiator, can send a photo, does not affect anything. The marine stereo causes a slight drain on the battery so we unhook the positive cable when parked long term. The tires have very good tread but look somewhat old-weathered to me. This Jeep still needs some work ( a list that never ends on old Jeeps lol) but overall I like it very much, it's mechanically very solid, has a lot of potential. I drove it around in the sage all afternoon for photos and had a great time doing it, would guess it could be driven home if you're really careful but its really not meant to be on the street, a trailer would be a lot smarter. This is a super old cool off road ride and will make the right person very happy to own it.

Shipping: I have shipped industrial fleet trucks all over the world, have connections in the auto transport industry and have the ability to arrange wholesale shipping anywhere in the USA but the cost is entirely yours. For example, I just shipped a Jeep wrangler to Oklahoma for $600 and another to Wisconsin for $650, figure approx. .55-.65 a mile.

Jeep Chief and Wrangler Red Rock Responder teased ahead of Easter Jeep Safari

Thu, Mar 12 2015

Jeep is being coy about it's lineup for the 2015 Moab Easter Jeep Safari, releasing just a pair of shots and an exceptionally brief press release on two of the seven concepts coming to the desert later this month. So, what can we glean from the limited assets that have been given to us? Well, as we said, we know Jeep is bringing seven vehicles to its big festival. We also know the names of two vehicles, shown above – there's the Chief and the Wrangler Red Rock Responder. Which is which? A fair question. We're betting the second image is the Wrangler-based Red Rock Responder. As for the Chief, well, we've absolutely no idea what to expect there. Jeep's Moab concepts generally include the model name on which their based – see the Grand Cherokee Trail Warrior and Cherokee Dakar from last year, or even the Wrangler Red Rock Responder, mentioned above. There's no such moniker on the Chief. As for the Chief's illustrated teaser image, as we said, it doesn't reveal much. The body is angular, and quite Jeep like, with squared-off wheel arches and decidedly old-school taillights. Beyond that, though, we don't have much to go on. Expect much more not just on the Chief and Red Rock Responder, but on all seven of the concepts Jeep is bringing to Moab. The party starts on March 28 and runs until April 5. Be sure to check back then for full coverage. Related Video:

Jeep Renegade gets new duds courtesy of Mopar

Tue, Jan 13 2015

In a uncommon move, Jeep has found itself with customized versions of a car we've become quite familiar seeing on auto show floors well before it's actual on-sale date. But that's okay – we're pretty fond of the little Renegade, and we're even more keen to get behind the wheel, something that's scheduled to take place in just a few weeks. The two Renegade models you see here have been blessed with bits and pieces from the Mopar parts catalog. These Jeep Performance Parts and Authentic Accessories will be made available to buyers of the Renegade who want to add some factory-backed custom flair to their rough-and-tumble baby crossovers, whether they plan to stay on the asphalt or head off the beaten path. Starting on the street, the Urban Jeep Renegade doesn't really have any major modifications, its factory-spec bike carrier, mirror caps, grille rings, taillamp surrounds and roof rails in Omaha Orange paint over an Anvil-color base serving more to make it stand out from the crowd than actually offer any additional capability. The interior of the Urban Renegade also gets Omaha Orange highlights to go along with Katzkin leather seats. On the dirtier side of the crossover equation, the Commando Green off-road Mopar-modded Renegade gets concept skid plate, prototype rock rails, rear valance and production roof rails provide some added protection and carrying capabilities. X-shaped graphics mimic the jerry can-style motif of the Renegade's tail lamps. Inside, Commando Green bits again join Katzkin leather. Take a good look at all the images above, and feel free to read more about the Mopar-spec Jeep Renegade models below. 2018 Jeep Wrangler to get 8-speed auto

Mon, Nov 24 2014

Remember when the Jeep Wrangler had a three-speed automatic? That wasn't that long ago – as recent as the 2007 redesign – but Chrysler is keen to leave those days behind on the dusty trail. The current model ushered in a four-speed, then a five-speed, but the latest intel indicates that an eight-speed automatic is in the cards. According to a report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and cited by Automotive News, Jeep plans on fitting its eight-speed automatic transmission to the next-generation Wrangler. Chrysler already uses the ZF-sourced slushbox on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ram 1500, Chrysler 300, and versions of the Dodge Challenger, Charger and Durango. But according to the SEC filing, the Auburn Hills automaker intends "to use this transmission in all of our rear-wheel-drive vehicles, except for heavy-duty versions of the Ram pick-up truck and the SRT Viper." AN says that Chrysler wanted to slot the transmission straight into the current Wrangler, but it wouldn't fit. Between the transmission and shift to aluminum construction, the next-generation Wrangler promises to deliver a significant reduction in fuel consumption. In correspondence with Autoblog, however, company spokesmen declined to comment on the eight-speed's suitability towards either the current Wrangler or the upcoming one.
