This is a rural carrier Jeep...plenty of receipts for preventative maintenance. It has 176 kilometers or roughly 109,000 miles. It has the workhorse reliable 4.0L I-6 engine. It was purchased for a backup vehicle. Just replaced valve cover gasket, oil filter adapter, idle oxygen sensor, crankcase position sensor, fresh oil change, air conditioning recharged and tested...(runs super cool now) and brakes all checked out. It has a radiator cooling fan installed Sept of 2013. New water pump, thermo and serpentine belt approx 20,000 miles ago. Front transfer case replaced approx 1800 miles ago. Good TOYO 6-ply tires on the ground. The body is amazingly straight for a mail rig. The interior has some bumps and bruises typical for a Jeep they just make them cheaper than the rest of the vehicle. The headliner, as typical, is rough and the console lid is broken at least without the lid it gives you a place for your coffee :) I have found the console for $40 + or- from salvage yards so easy fix. Jeep Grand Cherokee in headliner fire probe
Fri, 23 Aug 2013The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching an investigation into 146,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs from the 2012 model year, The Detroit News reports. This comes as the result of the government safety agency receiving three complaints from owners who cited fires inside the Jeep's cabin.
According to the report, NHTSA says:
"The customers reported a burning odor and visible smoke coming from the headliner while the vehicle was being driven. This was followed by flames from the headliner itself. Customers lowered the windows in an effort to clear the smoke but this increased the fire's intensity. All three vehicles had to be extinguished with a fire extinguisher or by the fire department as they continued to burn after the vehicle was turned off."
Chrysler's Jefferson North plant builds 5-millionth SUV [w/video]
Thu, 15 Aug 2013Chrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant opened in 1992 for production of the first Jeep Grand Cherokee, but in the subsequent years, the Detroit plant has gone on to produce some of the company's biggest SUVs including the Jeep Commander and Dodge Durango. Earlier this week, the plant produced its five-millionth SUV, which, fittingly, was a Grand Cherokee.
Celebrating the plant's five-millionth unit, the silver 2014 Grand Cherokee was promptly donated to the USO. In addition to this milestone SUV, Chrysler also had a near-perfect 1993-95 ZJ Grand Cherokee on hand for the photo op. Chrysler recalls 2013 Ram pickups, 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Wed, 17 Jul 2013Chrysler's spate of successful products is about to be marred by a trio of recalls. The Pentastar is recalling 51,477 Ram trucks and Jeep SUVs. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there have been no reported accidents, injuries or deaths related to the affected vehicles.
The largest action covers the Ram 1500, which is seeing 45,961 trucks being recalled. Models built between June 26, 2012 and February 5, 2013 are being recalled due to a potential software issue in the electronic stability control. Apparently, the system can be randomly deactivated upon vehicle startup.
Chrysler is also recalling 4,458 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee models. Covering everything but the SRT models, the potentially defective SUVs were built between January 14 and March 20, 2013. This recall focuses on "premium headlights," which means cars equipped with LED running lights. During the switch from the bright daytime running lamp setting to the low-intensity parking light setting, an electrical spike can cause one of the Jeep's computers to go into a safe mode, turning off the LEDs. This violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
