Listing is for a 1988 jeep Cherokee Laredo/pioneer, Has the gray leather interior, fully loaded. Also has the Selec-trac NP242 part-time and full time transfercase which is a nice extra to have if you drive a lot in winter conditions were the roads may go from bare to snow covered, This way you can leave it in the part time mode and will not have the side affects of a full time system. But if you want the direct feel for offroad or a direct 50% front 50% rear power split you can put the selection lever in full time.

The previous owner put the factory heavy duty or offroad springs in front and rear. It sits a bit hi'er then other stock Cherokees. You could possibly even throw a set of 31"s on it.

The story behind this jeep, Is I purchased it a couple years ago from and older gentleman who had already invested a couple grand in it, New tires, new transfercase, lots of other new stuff. He then started to have a starting issue so I purchased it For double what I am asking because it had tons of new parts, and the best part, It was and still is completly rust free, but the paint is just flat black and nothing special. Exactly what I wanted to build another lifted woods off roader. There is a slite ding in the driver door, as well as passenger side rear door if I remember. Probaly the reason the man painted it flat black. as for the gold trim/flares, I don't know what he was thinking. I planned to paint them all gray/silver the whole jeep even or just take them off and go with tj or aftermarket flares. But I got other projects now.

So I got the cherokee. Tinkered with it. Put a new fuel pump in it, and all along it was just a bad relay and ground connection "these are know for there the grounds having to be cleaned"

After I got it running, I drove it around local in a couple snow storms. It drove like it was new. The 4wd and everything worked great. And best of all it was never touched or molested" as we in the modification world like to say. So it was perfect.

Then after a couple months of tinkering, I started to have problems with it. It would start and immediately stall. And some days it would start, the next day it would start and stall.

So I tore my hair out, as wel as close to $800.00 in new sensors. Diagnostic tools. Factory service manuals. You name it.

So after a new alternator, new CPS, new IAC, ignition coil, plugs, wires, cap, rotor,. ETC. You name it, I Even cut off and bypassed all the vacum lines to see if that was a problem. Spent hours and hours with a multi meter testing grounds, adding grounds, cleaning connectors, testing sensors, reading online, reading forums, doing research, self diagnostics, process of elimination, to keep it short I did everything possible except change/check the ignition switch on column, and or change out the Ecu.

So off and on for the past 2 years I would do all I have mentioned. Finally last month, I listned to my gut and had some extra cash to get and ECU. So the ECU came, I plugged it in and it fired rite up!.

The only thing I did to it was go rid of the pressurized coolant system, and added a inline radiator hose filler neck. I was planning on swapping a 95 styl radiator and overflow bottle, but I had the filler neck and cap so I put it in the top hose and it was working fine last time I drove the vehicle. The old pressure bottle I just layed in the compartment with the overflow hose to it for now.

So as of rite now the Cherokee is running. But it of course blew a brake line, the main running from front to back, rite in the middle under the driver side.. As the 88's were not the Hi output every lil' bit of extra HP and MPG you can free up counts. But when I got it running, from sitting I guess the factory fan decided to cease up, and I noticed it started to get hot so I shut it off. So I will probally just throw the mechanical back on and a aftermarket 8" electric fan inplace of the stock junk.

It does need a stereo system, a few vaccum lines, And eventually and electric fan,and some other minor things to make it 100%, but i work on it a bit everday fixing things ican with any cash or parts  i have as of rite now this is its current shape.. As well as some other things Im probably missing. But the bottom line is, Its a solid  rust free, some minor rust starting on passenger side floor, but no holes. just needs re-coating of some ruber undercoating. but  it is complete besides a couple small things, Spend a lil' time and some tlc and youll have a solid running pass inspection Cherokee, or a perfect builder base to start your next project with.

The interior panels are popped off on rear door and trunk hatch, someone started to replace speakers and never finished. I have a few brand new speakers that were in boxes that came with it. I never put the panels back on because I was to busy trying to get it to run.  The dash is clean and solid, no cracks, not all lose. no holes from switches or anything like that.  The  leather is in fair shape. The driver seat has typical leather wear. Cracks. etc. The headliner is fine. The carpet is good. The interior just needs a good cleaning from it sitting.

The steering and drivetrain and engine are all in good shape. The undercarriage is immaculate for its age. and looks to me that it was undercoated at one time the rite way. Probably why it dosent have typical rotted outrockers and floors like every other cherokee up north here.

The steering is all tight all factory never touched just parts replaced. I noticed when I drove it the other day it  has a slight hard spot, I know its from sitting just needs to be greased and used.

The engine runs good, no smoke even when first started up. Just needs to be run. As I said rite now it needs a few things, and the longer I look at it the more ill work on it. All depends how busy I am with work, and other projects.

So make and offer, and if you would like more pictures even a video or any questions just ask. As I said, it currently isn't drivable because of the brake line,  and cooling system/fan stuff But longer I look at it the more Ill fix. I have original 1988 manual, and other info from glovebox, as well as a Factory service manual On CD and printed out that covers everything top to bottom on any Cherokee 84-90 as well as tons of other info that helped me get it running.

I also have 3 pairs of 31''s. all great tread.one pair are almost new. I would throw in for a bit extra.

Also, please  ASK OR MAKE OFFERS FIRST! AND LOCAL PICKUP- OR YOU ARANGE SHIPING ONLY

Chrysler recalling hundreds of thousands of Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander SUVs

Wed, 23 Jul 2014

The public might associated ignition switch recalls with General Motors - and with good cause - but that's not the only automaker calling its vehicles back in to fix that sort of issue.
Last month we reported that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was investigating an array of Chrysler Group vehicles for electrical-related safety issues. The administration and Chrysler subsequently issued a recall for 700,000 Dodge Journey crossovers, Dodge Grand Caravan minivans and Chrysler Town & Country minivans. But while the Jeeps that were also under investigation were not covered in that recall, they are being addressed in a separate one now.
Although Chrysler reports that it is only aware of a single accident stemming from this issue, it is "committing now to conduct a recall out of an abundance of caution." The recall affects the 2006-2007 Jeep Commander and 2005-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, of which it reports there are 792,300 on the road: 649,900 in the United States, 28,800 in Canada, 12,800 in Mexico and a further 100,800 outside of North America.

Stellantis will build four electric vehicles in Italy, say union reps

Wed, Jun 16 2021

MILAN — Stellantis will produce four medium-segment electric vehicles, of different brands, at its Melfi plant in southern Italy from 2024, the UILM union said on Tuesday. Since Stellantis was formed at the beginning of this year through the merger of Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA, production in Italy has been under scrutiny for costing more than elsewhere in Europe. "Stellantis announced that Melfi would be the first plant in Italy to get new models, based on post-2022 business plan," UILM said in a statement after workers' representatives met with the carmaker at Italy's industry ministry in Rome. Future production at Melfi will be based on a single enhanced production line that will merge the two existing ones, the union said, adding the restructuring will leave production capacity at the site unchanged at around 400,000 units. UILM's head, Rocco Palombella, said unions had not received all the answers they wanted as Stellantis was still working on its new business plan. "But the positive element is that the company has not absolutely called for structural redundancies," he said after the meeting. Stellantis Chief Executive Carlos Tavares has said the group would present its business plan late this year or in early 2022. Stellantis, the world's fourth-largest carmaker, gave no details about what was discussed at the meeting. In an earlier statement the company said it was working "with determination and speed" to support the energy transition of all its Italian sites. Italy's Industry minister, Giancarlo Giorgetti, however, said in a separate statement after the meeting that Stellantis had yet to decide where it would build its third electric battery plant in Europe. Stellantis, which already has two battery factory projects in France and Germany, has said adding gigafactories in Europe and the United States would be decided this year. The company is holding talks on this with Rome, as Italy is one of its main production hubs in Europe. Related video: Green Plants/Manufacturing Alfa Romeo Fiat Jeep Citroen Opel Peugeot Stellantis

What's really going on with the 2014 Jeep Cherokee's transmission issues?

Fri, 27 Sep 2013

On September 23, Automotive News reported that Chrysler had idled the second shift workers it hired just five weeks prior at its Toledo Assembly Complex to build the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. At the time, Chrysler said it had "built the critical number of vehicles we need to stock dealerships once containment is released" and did not want "to put additional strain on our logistics partners ... upon release." That reasoning was not only unusual, it didn't seem to make sense.
It appears the center of the nine-speed issue is software, not hardware.
That same day, the Detroit News ran a piece claiming workers at the Toledo factory said the halt was due to issues with the Cherokee's transmission. It put the number of already-built Cherokees needing fixes at 1,000 and said that some of the workers not laid off had been instructed "to take the Jeep on long test-drives." That made more sense. Three days later, on September 26, Automotive News reported that the 500 workers laid off had been reinstated, with engineers "speeding repairs on the SUV's powertrain software." The AN piece didn't put a number on how many units are being fixed, but it did say that 12,000 have been built and are awaiting delivery to dealers. The best it could say about when dealers will get them, however, is that "progress on a fix is being made. It's unclear when shipments to dealers will start."
