1979 Jeep Cherokee Wide Track Sport Utility 2-door 5.9l on 2040-cars
Seneca, South Carolina, United States
1979 Jeep Cherokee Chief Wide Track 4x4 360 V8 Automatic in excellent condition. This Jeep Runs and drives great, AC is cold, and it's a pleasure to drive. Engine and Trans have both been rebuilt a few years back, front end is tight, brakes are in great condition. No need to have it shipped it's good to drive anywhere. It is original except for a new style ford 2bl carb (better gas millage), a 2" helper spring lift, new 33 12.50 tires, and dual exhaust. With the new style carb and bigger tires to gear it up we average around 15 mpg. I added a CD player in the console but the original am fm CB radio is still in the dash, it works but the speakers are not hooked up to it, I ran them to the CD player. I added a 15 inch electric fan to the engine for extra cooling when running ac in traffic. I have the original paperwork, owners manuals (including the window sticker) from when it was bought new at Hinkles Jeep in Pickens SC. Interior is original (not recovered) and in great shape. Body is in the most excellent rust free condition I've ever seen one of these in. It has been repainted with new decals and it looks great with the exception of a few small chips (see pictures) and some places on the roof at/in front of the luggage rack that have peeled some but easy to fix if so desire but not very noticeable as is. I hate to part with it but I need a truck. I live in Seneca SC and welcome anyone to come drive and check it over all they want before they bid but once sold it is of course as is without a warranty. My cell is 864 723 3723 At work I can't answer the phone so text only and I will call you back or email is good as well. I am a certified mechanic, ran my own shop for over 20 years before I retired from auto repair, this jeep is my personal driver so I have kept it right and ready to drive. It shows well and does draw a lot of attention wherever I go! |

Jeep gives a trio of customs an encore showing at SEMA
Wed, 05 Nov 2014While Jeep certainly had some new customs on display at this year's SEMA show, it wasn't afraid to recycle a few that people might have missed from earlier this year. The maker of many beloved off-roaders already displayed the Jeep Cherokee Dakar, Maximum Performance Wrangler and Wrangler Mojo at the 2014 Easter Safari, but they all made it to SEMA for an encore.
Based around the Trailhawk, the Cherokee Dakar (pictured above) imagines an even more off-road-capable version of the crossover. The concept wears a mix of Silver Steel Stain paint with Flame Red graphics and rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires. To back up the rugged look, the Dakar is fitted with rock rails and skid plates protecting the oil pan, front suspension, fuel tank and other underbody parts. It also sports prototype parts from Jeep Performance Parts, including a lift kit and fender flares.
The Wrangler is one of the paragons of off-roading, and as the name suggests, the Maximum Performance Wrangler concept is meant to be the ultimate example of what it can do. The custom features locking Dana 60 axles front and rear, a 4:1 Rock-Trac transfer case, prototype 4-inch lift kit and 37-inch Mud Terrain tires over beadlock wheels. To stay on the trails well into the night, a bar of LEDs is mounted above the windshield. And finally, the Mopar Blue exterior kind of makes the vehicle look like the world's toughest blueberry.
2014 Jeep Cherokee facing production delay
Fri, 17 May 2013Jeep's bold-faced new direction spearheaded by the 2014 Cherokee is facing some teething issues. According to a report by the Detroit Free Press, production start-up of the controversial new utility vehicle at its Toledo North facility is running about a month behind schedule "due to a wide range of issues." That's according to Mark Chernoby, senior vice president of engineering at Chrysler.
Chernoby maintains that the issues being encountered aren't unusual for the launch of a new vehicle - particularly one with a new powertrain - and he downplayed the delay, telling Jeep dealers that they "will have ample inventory of the midsize SUV by fall." Among the kinks being worked out? Calibrating the Cherokee's cutting-edge ZF nine-speed automatic transmission and refining assembly line tasks to make the process more efficient.
Chrysler expects to start building retail-ready versions of the Cherokee around mid-June, with official sales slated to start in September.
Jeep leads list of 25 most patriotic brands
Thu, 04 Jul 2013It's not unusual to feel extra patriotic this time of year, what with the Fourth of July being today and all. As if to celebrate, New York-based research firm Brand Keys conducted a study among 4,500 consumers about what brands they find to be the most patriotic. According to the Detroit Free Press, Jeep took top honors in this study, besting other American stalwart brands including Coca-Cola, Levi's and Hershey's.
Interestingly, the only other automotive brand to make the list was Ford, in the 16th spot (motorcycle fans take note - Harley-Davidson claimed the No. 13 slot). This means consumers found Jeep to be more patriotic than any of the brands in the General Motors portfolio, including Chevrolet, which has long used American themes in its advertising over the decades.
According to Brand Keys, Jeep came in "with a score of 98 out of 100 on a scale representing consumers' emotional engagement expectations," the Detroit Free Press reports. Be sure to read the report to scan the entire Top 25 list for yourself.
