You are bidding on a lovingly and perfectly restored 1955 Willys CJ5 Jeep. The 1955 CJ5 is special because this was the first year that the CJ5 was produced. This is your chance to own a legend.

This Jeep was stripped to the frame and then carefully restored and reassembled with rebuilt or new parts and all new hardware to make this a beautiful and reliable vintage Jeep. The chassis was cleaned, stripped and repainted. The front and rear axel assemblies were rebuilt (front and rear bearings, seals and gaskets all around, new spicer-style front axels, new kingpin bearing assemblies, new knuckle seals). The axel assemblies are installed with new Rancho shocks and springs. To make the jeep safe on modern roads, the breaking system is upgraded: 11 rear brake drums and GM Front disc brakes are installed along with new brake lines, proportioning valve and a dual-chamber high-capacity master cylinder (this was done in a non-destructive and reversible upgrade). The original steering system is rebuilt and and installed with new tie-rod ends and a Rancho steering damper to make driving more comfortable. New bumpers, wheels and tires complete the rolling chassis (I chose to keep a more vintage look with the smaller tire size but there is space in the chassis for much larger tires). The Hurricane F4-134 engine is stripped and rebuilt (New pistons, rings, bearings, remachined block, crank, cam, and head, valves and seats reground, valve seals replaced, distributor rebuilt, new carburetor, generator, starter, oil-pump, water pump, fuel pump, fuel, oil and vacuum lines, crankcase vent, timing belt and gear, spark plugs and wires, water temp and oil pressure sending units, ignition coil, and gaskets installed. A new clutch, pressure plate and bearings are fitted. The original oil-bath air filter was replaced with a K&N filter to make maintenance easier (the original oil-bath filter comes with the jeep). The transmission and transfer case were inspected, overhauled and reinstalled. A new radiator and hoses ensure great cooling. The front and rear driveshafts were overhauled, with new universal joints installed. A new end to end exhaust system is installed.  The body is completely and flawlessly restored, the exterior is painted candy apple red, the engine compartment is painted gloss black and the under body and passenger compartment are sprayed with black Rhino Liner. The body is assembled with new gaskets and seals and fitted to the chassis with 1" of chassis lift. A new bestop black and removable doors, mud flaps, hood latches, tailgate chains, and classic round side-view mirror finish the exterior. New Bestop front seats make for a comfortable ride. A new heater makes the interior comfortable on chilly mornings even with the top off. Front seat belts, and a roll bar are installed for safety. A new wiring harness is installed along with a new voltage regulator, and battery, all of the the lights were restored or replaced with the correct units for a classic vintage look, and new gauges, wiper motors and switches are fitted to finish off a perfect electrical system. I'm sure there is much more but this should give you the majority of what's been done. All receipts, the Jeep service manual, tune-up spares and various other extras are included.

The jeep has only seen 375 miles since restoration, all driven on sunny days. The rest of the time, it is stored in my garage.

I had so much fun restoring this jeep that I am selling this one and starting work on another.

Chrysler resolves recall issue with NHTSA, will inspect, upgrade affected Jeeps

Tue, 18 Jun 2013

Chrysler made big news earlier in the month by refusing a recall request from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty. Last week, NHTSA boss David Strickland countered by defending his agency's request for the recall of 2.7 million Jeep SUVs. Today marked the deadline for Chrysler to formally respond to NHTSA, and it seems that both parties have met in the middle with Chrysler inspecting and upgrading some of the affected vehicles without using the word "recall," which would constitute the admission of a defect; instead, Chrysler said that it is conducting a "voluntary campaign."
At issue on these vehicles is the positioning of the fuel tank behind the rear axle that could get damaged during a rear-end collision. NHTSA has stated that at least 51 people have been killed in rear-end collisions involving these Jeeps after the vehicles caught fire, to which Chrysler countered by pointing out that both models "met and exceeded" the requirements for fuel-system integrity.
As a compromise on the situation, Chrysler says that it will inspect all pre-2004 Grand Cherokees and pre-2007 Liberty models and, "if necessary, provide an upgrade to the rear structure of the vehicle." According to Automotive News, this upgrade will consist of adding a trailer hitch that will presumably better protect the rear-mounted gas tank. Vehicles already equipped with a factory or Mopar hitch will not be modified. Chrysler's official statement on the matter is posted below, but no additional information has been released, such as when the campaign will begin and how many vehicles could be affected.

Sunday Drive: A tale of old favorites and upcoming challengers

Sun, Oct 8 2017

Sedans and crossovers dominated the attention of our readers last week, led by the completely redesigned 2018 Honda Accord. It's the Japanese automaker's flagship, and people are seriously interested in finding out how good the latest Accord is. So interested, in fact, that no other single story came close to the brand-new Accord in Autoblog reader interest. Moving down the list we find the equally new 2018 Buick Enclave. The three-row crossover has a lot to offer a family, especially one looking for a nice, quiet ride. If you're looking for the exact opposite of nice and quiet, but still want enough room for you and your significant others, the Subaru WRX that we tested last week may be the perfect ride for you. Or, if you just want to drive fast and aren't at all worried about space, there's the Camaro SS. See? We offer something for everybody. From there, we look to the future. Who isn't interested in seeing the first fully electric vehicle from Porsche? And who isn't intrigued to see the Mission E testing alongside a gaggle of Teslas? A brand-new Jeep is always a big deal, especially when it's the revival of a classic nameplate like the Grand Wagoneer. And finally, we have something completely different: the Rezvani Tank. As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. 2018 Honda Accord First Drive | Feels like home again 2018 Buick Enclave First Drive Review | Fortress of quietude 2018 Subaru WRX Drivers' Notes | Turbo traditionalist 2018 Chevy Camaro SS Drivers' Notes | Demonstrative power, middling interior Porsche Mission E caught testing against Teslas Jeep three-row SUV caught on public roads — Grand Wagoneer, perhaps? 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets surprisingly comprehensive update, new diesel power

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

Traditionally, automotive journalists can be heard muttering something to the effect of "Geeze, it's about time!" whenever a vehicle's midcycle refresh is revealed. As we routinely see and drive new models many months before the public even claps eyes on them in showrooms - and then go on to tweeze apart their minutia in our daily writings - perhaps some impatience is to be expected. With so much exposure to a given vehicle, it's fair to say we tire of most cars and trucks far more quickly than the average consumer.
The alterations are handsome, if not subtle touches from the "If It Ain't Broke" school of design.
Which is why we're pleased to say "Oh, is it time for that already?" when it comes to the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The current WK2 Grand Cherokee hit the market in 2011 and climbed its way into our hearts with its rugged good looks, go-anywhere capability and surprising refinement. We're not yet tired of its appearance or performance, but even so, we're very glad to see Chrysler giving its flagship Jeep some attention, including a much-anticipated diesel powertrain option and some other economy-minded measures.
