I have a Custom 1984 Jeep CJ7 that has been through a frame off restoration that went in stages through the years of 1998-2002 and still looks good today. It has been garage kept every winter and has never seen a rain since I purchased it.

It was built to be a fun summer cruiser and is a good one at that. It has a rebuilt 304 AMC engine built from scratch. All parts were purchased separately and put together nicely. The block was bored 40 over with some nice new pistons. The crank I had was completely redone as well as the heads. The cam is a Comp Cam with a 292 duration and a 518 lift. It definitely has an amazing sound with the help of a custom dual Flowmaster exhaust coming out the back at an angle. The radiator was brand new at the time of rebuild along with the distributor, Holley Laser shot coil, wires and the aluminum Edelbrock intake. I put a nice aluminum battery tray and aluminum over flow tank in as well.

It has a T-176 transmission out of another CJ that was rebuilt.

It has a dana 35 front axle and a model 20 rear with the one piece put in for the extra strength and the nice flat hub look. Both axles have great looking aluminum fin hub covers.

You could definitely have a blast taking this off road but I never have. It’s strictly been a nice day cruiser for me.  The lift is a Rancho 2 1/2 in suspension lift with Rancho shocks. It has a nice mild 2in body lift that’s tucked under without being seen along with beefier shackles.

Tires are 33x12.5 15 TSL Thornbirds with Mickey Thompson 15x10 wheels with 1/2 -3/4 tread left. I do have a full size spare that has never been used. I have a very neat spare tire carrier that actually goes in place of the backseat and is bolted to the floor and holds the spare at an angle like you see in the back of a pickup truck but made for a jeep. It’s still in the box that it came in and the backseat is still in the jeep.

The interior is basic. It has a full roll cage, aluminum diamond plate dash, an aluminum wiper motor cover, the tub was rhino lined, aluminum diamond plate floor plates where the driver and passenger feet go. In the entry ways there are aluminum diamond plate guards along with custom RCI racing bucket seats with a great locking Tuffy console that houses your radio/cd player. The gauges are the digital ones that look great at night, with the addition of a digital tach as well. There’s a billet Grant steering wheel with a Sony cd player,  JL Audio 6x9 speakers in the pods tucked between the roll cage and rear fender wells and 5 1/4 JL Audio speakers in the dash.

The body is the original metal tub that required some body work. The fenders and hood are also original. The only body part that isn’t original is the windshield frame. The windshield frame was powdered coated to a nice bright shiny finish. The frame is super clean even before the resto there was no rust as well as the axles are very nice and rust free. The whole under carriage, inside of fender wells and part of the engine compartment are painted black using a thick more durable paint that’s easy to clean and hose off.

It does not have a top or doors just because I have never driven it in weather that required it. The heater was actually taken out just because it was never used. The bumpers are chrome double tube Smittybuilt which look great with the chrome grill, aluminum diamond plate front frame cover and aluminum diamond plate gas tank skid plate. All the hinges are polished stainless steel as well as the gas fill plate and the custom round recessed tail lights. The front bumper has 2 KC 6” round chrome lights with matching colored cover for the jeep. They were put on but never wired up. I have all the wiring and switches to finish the install.

The reason I’m selling it is because it is never driven, it just sits in the garage and with being busy with work and family I really don’t have the time for it. There are two things that need to be done on it and one is the rear brakes. I actually just disconnected them because I was going to put a rear disk brake conversion kit on it that I never got around to doing but the rear brakes are all there, the lines are just pinched off right now and just need to be hooked back up. The other thing is the digital gauges, not sure if they go bad over time, but some seem to come and go at times. The fuel gauge, the volt meter and the water temp are the 3 that have issues. It could be a lose connection over time, just not sure. The miles before the rebuild it was in the low 50’s. After I installed the new gauges, they weren’t recording the millage properly. I only drive it maybe once every 2 months when it’s nice but I do change the oil every year even though it really doesn’t need it. It’s a great jeep and very fun to drive, thanks for looking.

You probably won't see FCA's famous Easter eggs on an Alfa Romeo

Thu, Nov 17 2016

They started in Jeeps, with images of seven-slot grilles showing up on windshield edges, the text "SINCE 1941" appearing in the clear plastic of headlight units, and a relief map of Moab engraved into a rubber cubby liner. Then a Chrysler got a map of Detroit and the outline of Laguna Seca materialized near the Viper's window switch. We've come to call them Easter eggs, but Klaus Busse points out that they were never really meant to be secrets, just ways to dress up what he calls "dead plastic." He's nevertheless cool with the phrase being applied and likes the enthusiastic response these design details get. Busse is intimately familiar with many of them, having signed off on many of them in his time as head interior designer for FCA's US operations. He recently moved to Europe to lead Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Fiat design there, so when I caught up with him next to the new Stelvio crossover at the Alfa stand in LA, I had to ask: Are we going to see any of those neat design details in Alfas or Maseratis anytime soon? The short answer is no. But he didn't say it's out of the question. Busse said if, for example, a designer wanted to put an Italian phrase somewhere on a car that was in keeping with the brand, he would allow it. Although he didn't come out and say it, it seems like he might feel this type of fun design element isn't necessarily appropriate for a higher-end brand like Alfa. And I get that. But I'm still going to check all the compartments of that new Alfa crossover for a map of the Stelvio Pass. Forza Horizon 3 adds Ford Police Interceptor, Jeep CJ5

Tue, Oct 4 2016

We're only a few weeks past the debut of Forza Horizon 3, and already the folks at Turn 10 are introducing the first of six car packs for the open-world driving game. Focused heavily on performance, there are still a few, um, oddballs, including one we're sure Forza's livery customizers will have a blast with. The Smoking Tire Car Pack brings seven new vehicles to FH3, with the Aston Martin Vulcan, Pagani Huayra BC, GTA Spano, Lotus 340R, and BMW M2 repping traditional performance vehicles. As per usual, FH3 renders each car beautifully and promises a solid approximation of real-world performance – even if you do ditch the roads and opt to rampage through the Australian countryside. While performance is good, the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and the Jeep CJ5 Renegade bring an off-beat vibe to this particular pack. We aren't certain, but this might be the first time the Police Interceptor appears in a blockbuster driving game. While we expect plenty of police car liveries for the Crown Vic, Forza's rabid community of tuners and customizers are sure to do much more with it. As for the CJ5, is there a better vehicle for tooling about Australia? Yeah, we didn't think so. The Smoking Tire Car Pack is available for free as part of the Forza Horizon 3 Ultimate Edition or Car Pass program. Commitment-phobes can also download this single vehicle pack for $7. AEV Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon

Fri, 28 Feb 2014

After their rented 2007 Hummer H3 failed them during the brutal Rallye Aicha des Gazelles in Morocco, Amy Lerner and her sister Tricia Reina were on a quest to find the most capable production off-roader for their next competition - they chose a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. Their next mission was to find a company with the competence to configure it to win. After poring over Internet forums and perusing countless magazines for an outfitter who could meet their demanding requirements, they sent their bright orange JK ("Crush" is the official color) to American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) for some modifications.
The Michigan-based team at AEV kept the Jeep's 3.6-liter V6 and automatic transmission stock, but replaced the hood with a tall AEV Heat Reduction Hood and added an AEV Snorkel Kit for water crossings (it serves double-duty as its raised height helps to keep the air intake out of the kicked-up dust on the trail). Front and rear off-road bumpers were bolted in place, and AEV skid plates were added to provide additional undercarriage protection. A pair of IPF-900 off-road lights improve visibility, while a 10.2-gallon AEV Fuel Caddy (located behind the exterior spare) added some range. The suspension was upgraded with a 3.5-inch lift kit with Bilstein remote reservoir shocks, and 35-inch Falken Wildpeak A/T tires (LT285/70R17) were mounted at all four corners on AEV's beadlock wheels.
