Beautiful, rare, well-preserved, original, almost rust-free, very stock, great running example of a 1978 Jeep CJ5 Golden Eagle Levi Edition with only 58,809 original miles. I drive it regularly around town so mileage may increase a little. This is a stunning CJ5 in terms of originality and patina. Something can be restored over and over but it is only original once. When I discovered it, I just had to have it. Unfortunately, my current financial circumstances necessitate its sale. Other than a few tasteful upgrades to increase driveability and performance, this awesome beast is stock. And it has spent it's life in the desert so the sheet metal has aged very well.

The interior (to the extent that a CJ even has one) is in very good shape. It's all original and everything works except the clock and the radio. I never bothered to fix either one. Even the windshield washer still works. The factory tilt wheel makes getting in and out very easy. Seats are aftermarket high-back buckets that are very comfortable. They are a CJ upgrade that bolts into existing holes. Original Levi Edition seats and frames are included but the fabric is cracking from the dry weather (see pics). They could be used as a pattern to recreate the original look. There is no back seat but the factory bolt holes for the seat and belts are there. All paint is original with no touch-up of any kind.

In my opinion, the exterior is spectacular. All paint is original and has a patina that only 35 years of Mother Nature could create. I hope the next owner never resprays her. The body has one dent and it's a minor one on the left front fender (see pics). It could probably be popped out. The only top I've ever had is the Bestop bikini top. It's in very good shape. And the only other body imperfections are two small rust areas; one below the rear license plate and the other below the white J in Jeep on the right side (see pics). Both have been treated with a preservative to stop any spreading. This CJ5 has no tail gate (a BIG plus) which virtually eliminates any rattling. All lights work but one front blinker cover is cracked. Tires are 32 inch Cooper Discoverer AT's (the largest you can fit without wheel spacers) with excellent tread on the factory Golden Eagle 15X7 gold spoke rims. Fender flares are new but identical to stock.

Engine, transmission, transfer case, differentials, brakes and steering are in excellent condition. They are all original to this Jeep. The 304CID V8 engine has been upgraded with an Electronic Ignition, Edelbrock Performer 600CFM 4BBL carburetor, Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Edelbrock high-volume air intake, exhaust headers and Cherry Bomb style header mufflers (see pics). The engine sounds like music during acceleration. It also has a new battery and alternator. And it was just tuned up last week with a carb rebuild, new plug wires and new spark plugs.

Transmission is the Borg-Warner T150 3 speed manual. It shifts great (up and down) and all synchros are strong. Clutch and linkage have less than 200 miles and were installed by Dixie Four Wheel Drive (probably the most well-respected offroad shop in Utah and Nevada... google them). Transfer case is the Dana 20; it works perfectly. Differentials are AMC Model 20 in the rear and Dana 30 with factory power disc brakes in the front. They are stock with the exception of a Lock-Right diff locker in the front. I am including the original gears (see pics) if you choose to remove the locker.

Brakes and steering all function properly. It steers straight and stops straight. The factory Saginaw steering box has a leak but it works well. Rubber suspension bushings were replaced with Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings and I'm including some extra's. I installed aftermarket leaf springs which gave me a subtle 2 plus inches of lift. In my opinion, it looked a little tame with the stock springs but these mostly preserved the stock appearance. Also, I removed the front sway bar but am including it (see pics) so you can put it back on if you want. And I am selling this CJ with the very desirable plastic gas tank that came on a 1982 CJ5 (see pics). It's not installed but is a very popular upgrade.

This is an awesome 1978 Jeep CJ5 Golden Eagle Levi Edition. It needs nothing and can be enjoyed immediately. I hope it ends up with someone who will preserve it and be a good steward. That's certainly what she deserves. There are too many out there that are too modified, too butchered, or too perfect to enjoy. This one is just right as it is... just my two cents. My name is Chris and I am happy to answer your questions. Please call me at 435-669-1470. I also have tons of pictures that show every nook and cranny. Please send me a non-Ebay email address and I will get them right out. This beautiful CJ5 is located in the dry, desert community of St. George, Utah (about 100 miles north of Las Vegas). Thank you very much for your interest.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets surprisingly comprehensive update, new diesel power

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

Traditionally, automotive journalists can be heard muttering something to the effect of "Geeze, it's about time!" whenever a vehicle's midcycle refresh is revealed. As we routinely see and drive new models many months before the public even claps eyes on them in showrooms - and then go on to tweeze apart their minutia in our daily writings - perhaps some impatience is to be expected. With so much exposure to a given vehicle, it's fair to say we tire of most cars and trucks far more quickly than the average consumer.
The alterations are handsome, if not subtle touches from the "If It Ain't Broke" school of design.
Which is why we're pleased to say "Oh, is it time for that already?" when it comes to the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The current WK2 Grand Cherokee hit the market in 2011 and climbed its way into our hearts with its rugged good looks, go-anywhere capability and surprising refinement. We're not yet tired of its appearance or performance, but even so, we're very glad to see Chrysler giving its flagship Jeep some attention, including a much-anticipated diesel powertrain option and some other economy-minded measures.

Chrysler uses Super Bowl spots to honor troops, farmers

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

How do you follow up such revered and successful ads as Chrysler's last two Super Bowl commercials? Imported from Detroit and Halftime in America should be given credit for giving the automaker's public perception a complete overhaul after its rescue from the brink with taxpayer money. What next, then?
We just found out during Super Bowl XLVII. This year Chrysler went with two commercials, one for Jeep and the other Ram. The two-minute-long Jeep commercial, called Whole Again, is narrated by Oprah Winfrey and presented as an open letter to the service men and women of America, simply expressing admiration for what they do - poignant message coming from a company whose history is so entwined with that of the military's.
The Ram commercial, called Farmer, honors the agricultural backbone of this country. Its soundtrack is a speech entitled "So God Made a Farmer" given by the famous radio broadcaster Paul Harvey, which plays over a slideshow of original photography commissioned by Ram. The images, of course, focus on farming and the people who do it for a living, and there's a few Ram trucks in there, as well.

GMC wants to target Jeep with compact crossover

Mon, Dec 14 2015

GMC execs might consider adding a Jeep competitor to the range, but rather than new rumors of a Wrangler-fighter, this time the Professional Grade brand could go after the Renegade. Division boss Duncan Aldred would like to broaden the brand's lineup with a subcompact crossover. "I keep telling everyone, 'How can General Motors' truck brand not be in the fastest-growing segment in the industry, an SUV segment," he said to Automotive News but wouldn't confirm whether the model was under development. General Motors already offers small crossovers like the Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore, but the CUV segment in general continues to drive auto sales in the US. Adding a similarly sized GMC to the mix might increase the automaker's volume by appealing to different customers. "A GMC buyer is very different from a Buick buyer. This is like comparing the Fiat 500X to the Jeep Renegade. They are very similar but appeal to different people," Dave Sullivan, Product Analysis Manager at AutoPacific, told Autoblog. Aldred started the speculation about a Wrangler-fighting model in an interview in late 2014, and the company reportedly even raised the idea of an offroad-focused vehicle to dealers to see how they reacted. The development process was only in the very early planning stages, but the brand considered using Hummer for a little of the new product's inspiration. Aldred later suggested to journalists the possibility of adding a compact or midsize SUV to the GMC range in the next 10 years to appeal to more buyers. He didn't comment directly on the possibility of the Wrangler-challenger at the time beyond saying: "I can't confirm that ... everything's on the table." Related Video:
