SELLER REMARKS |
|
Look through our inventory and you will see a lot of Jeeps, but this 1979 CJ-7 Renegade might be one of the nicest we've ever featured. With an impressive restoration, it looks amazing both inside and out, and thanks to a stout 360 cubic inch V8, it has performance that'll definitely deliver the shock and awe.
The bottom line is that someone took a really nice original Jeep and gave it a show-quality restoration. No AMC product ever fit together this well or had paint that was this deep and glossy, and any part that didn't measure up to the owner's admittedly high standards, well, it got tossed and a brand new item was installed in its place. The bodywork has had hundreds of hours poured into its final finish and thanks to a recent color sand and buff, the shine is so deep that it looks at home with far more expensive vehicles. Proper Renegade decals and stripes were reinstalled, along with new rubber fender flares, a chrome grille surround, new lenses, and, of course, those cool asymmetrical side mirrors that only look right on a Jeep. There's also a custom set of chrome bumpers that add to the Jeep's compact, sporty look, and even the correct 'AMC' and 'CJ-7' badges were reinstalled. It's hard to convey with just words and photos how nice this Jeep is, but when you see it in person, you'll understand.
The interior also received a major makeover, complete with fresh high-back bucket seats, a functional center console, and a new dash pad. The floor is covered in spray-in bedliner material that's durable as well as attractive and highlights the functional appeal of the Jeep. All the gauges are new, framed by a shiny chrome instrument panel and controls with reproduction knobs. The plain 3-spoke steering wheel is just the way it was when this Jeep was brand new and I kind of dig the fact that they skipped the radio, suggesting that this Jeep is plenty of fun without it. The shifter manages a 3-speed manual transmission (and any Jeep enthusiast will tell you that's the one you want when you're stuck in a bog) , with the smaller lever next to it controlling the 2-speed transfer case that gives the CJ its insane off-road abilities. And yes, don't worry, a full canvas top and matching doors are included (although they've never been installed in an effort to preserve the high-quality paint work), so you don't need to worry about the weather spoiling your fun.
Most of these had inline-sixes, but this one was upgraded to a stout 360 cubic inch AMC V8 that makes performance entertaining to say the least. The mechanicals were rebuilt a few years ago, so it runs strong and is ready to rock and roll on the highway or rip through the hills. Maneuverability is enhanced with front disc brakes and power steering, while upgrades include an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and long-tube headers that feed the side pipes just ahead of the rear wheels. Everywhere you look there's evidence of recent maintenance and thoughtful upgrades, including reproduction decals on the chrome air cleaner and valve covers, and a fresh set of heavy-duty off-road shocks were installed during the resto along with shiny 15-inch chrome wheels with 33x12.50-15 off-road radials.
In essence, this Jeep is mean, and new in just about every way you can touch and feel, with beautiful cosmetics and a very strong-running powertrain. They just don't come much better than this. Call today!

The Trailhawk's rugged good looks were right at home against the backdrop of changing seasons. Regardless of where you choose to call home, you've probably seen, or at least heard, about the Pure Michigan ads, showing off all the splendor that the Mitten State has to offer. You can make fun of them all you want (several spoofs already exist), but as a native, I fully stand behind the idea that Michigan is a truly gorgeous place. The western coast along Lake Michigan and the northern half of the Lower Peninsula are seriously pretty, and vastly different from the southeastern area that houses big cities like Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, and so on. Beyond that, the Upper Peninsula is the closest you'll get to seeing vast spoils of untouched wilderness, and trust me – it's truly pretty. I've seen the world, but I still feel all warm and fuzzy every time I venture north to experience all the vistas that my own state has to offer. In the autumn months, the changing leaves in Michigan put on quite a display. Sure, this happens all over the world, but we truly embrace autumn in the Wolverine State, and practically every Detroit-based Autoblog staffer has gone on at least one fall colors tour to the northern Lower Peninsula to take it all in. That's exactly what associate multimedia producer Chris McGraw and I did just over a month ago, behind the wheel of our long-term 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The Trailhawk's rugged good looks were right at home against the backdrop of changing seasons, and we opted to capture the whole experience on video for this latest long-term update. The Tunnel of Trees is a picturesque stretch of Michigan's M-119 highway that starts just northeast of Petoskey. As you can see in the video above, the Tunnel of Trees is a picturesque stretch of Michigan's M-119 highway that starts just northeast of Petoskey and follows Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay. This winding road through the woods goes on for nearly 30 miles, largely unobstructed by neighborhoods, fueling stations, shops, or roadside fodder, and spits you out at the famous Legs Inn in Harbor Springs. (Top-notch Polish food, if you're hungry.) From there, you can either continue north toward Mackinac City and the Mackinac Bridge that connects Michigan's lower and upper peninsulas, or you can turn around and take in all the goodness again.

GMC execs might consider adding a Jeep competitor to the range, but rather than new rumors of a Wrangler-fighter, this time the Professional Grade brand could go after the Renegade. Division boss Duncan Aldred would like to broaden the brand's lineup with a subcompact crossover. "I keep telling everyone, 'How can General Motors' truck brand not be in the fastest-growing segment in the industry, an SUV segment," he said to Automotive News but wouldn't confirm whether the model was under development. General Motors already offers small crossovers like the Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore, but the CUV segment in general continues to drive auto sales in the US. Adding a similarly sized GMC to the mix might increase the automaker's volume by appealing to different customers. "A GMC buyer is very different from a Buick buyer. This is like comparing the Fiat 500X to the Jeep Renegade. They are very similar but appeal to different people," Dave Sullivan, Product Analysis Manager at AutoPacific, told Autoblog. Aldred started the speculation about a Wrangler-fighting model in an interview in late 2014, and the company reportedly even raised the idea of an offroad-focused vehicle to dealers to see how they reacted. The development process was only in the very early planning stages, but the brand considered using Hummer for a little of the new product's inspiration. Aldred later suggested to journalists the possibility of adding a compact or midsize SUV to the GMC range in the next 10 years to appeal to more buyers. He didn't comment directly on the possibility of the Wrangler-challenger at the time beyond saying: "I can't confirm that ... everything's on the table." Related Video:

Any time you see this iconic moment in pop culture - Shut up and take my money! - posted in response to a new car reveal, rumor for an upcoming model or even lip-service to a vehicle that should exist, you can bet there's some intrinsic good in the idea. Though depending on the person offering up the cash, that good could take the form of extraordinary form, functionality, weight savings, power, handling, etc. You get the idea.
In fact, when I first proposed this list, I reached out to the Autoblog staff to help me brainstorm. Here are some of the ideas they offered up that I ultimately didn't use: Jaguar XE Coupe, Pagani Huayra Roadster, Mercedes-Benz S-Class "parade car" (cabriolet), Morgan 3-Wheeler with Ducati V-twin, Ford Transit Connectamino (pickup), Mercedes CLA63 AMG, Ford Fusion 5.0, BMW i8 Spyder, Lexus RC-F Shooting Brake, Volvo XC90 Polestar. Oh, and things we collectively wanted to stick Dodge's Hellcat in were almost as numerous as models that Fiat Chrysler Automotive currently makes (though none quite so compelling as the Grand Cherokee you see above.)
Ultimately though, while I used a couple of ideas from my colleagues, the list of cars I'd shell out for unquestionably is very personal. Though it isn't complete, what follows is a selection of cars whose very existence would prompt me - or the trust-fund-baby versions of me - to utter without hesitation: "Shut up and take my money."
