1984 Jeep CJ-7 Laredo- Black paint is all original with silver trim and decals.  This Jeep has been garaged while in my possession and had spent most of its life in Nevada.  The body is very solid without any surface rust and the it appears the undercarriage has been sprayed with a protectant as well. Engine is 4.2L 258 6 Cylinder engine runs and starts great, 5 speed manual transmission with Billet/Plus Competition Shifter and dual lever shifter kit for the Dana 300 transfer case, the 4x4 works great.  A Centerforce performance clutch was added.  It drives well with Cooper 31"x10.5x15 off road tires on custom rims (it has a rear mounted spare but its old).  Tread life on the 4 main tires is very good.  When I purchased the Jeep, I was told the motor was rebuilt and had around 27,000 miles.  I added a couple more thousand this past summer.  Under the hood the engine is very clean and has a D.U.I. distributor.  The exhaust is custom with tubed steel with a 2.5" chrome tip welded offering a nice rumble.  Chromed features include the front bumper, grill, hood latches and hinges, hood vent, side tube step and door handles.  On the rear bumper, a heavy gauge Rock Receiver with 2" receiver was added.  The front bumper features a 8,000lb winch.  The interior condition is pretty nice.  The windshield is free of cracks and rock chips.  The dash is in very good condition and all the gauges work (except for the clock).  When I bought the Jeep, it had a lousy Panasonic radio and blown dash speakers which I upgraded to a JVC KD-R530 (works with CDs, aux cable, usb cable) and Polk marine speakers and marine speaker wire.  I also ran speaker wires to the rear so a removable speaker box could be played (not included-I use it mainly in a little boat).  I also added a decorative diamond plate cover over the transfer case.  Driver and passenger seats are in great condition and are a comfortable, thick cushion.  Both seats have levers to slide the seats forward and flip forward allowing access to the rear seat.  The rear seat appears to be original and has a spot where the stitching is pulling apart.  The rear seat does not fold and tumble forward.  The carpeting is simple thin black for easy clean-up or drying.  The top-padded center counsel is a Tuffy steel security box where the main radio is stored and offers additional lockable storage and 2 cup-holders on the rear of it.  The hardtop is fiberglass with what appears to be amateur tint added to it, but also comes with a BesTop Supertop with tinted professional zip-out windows, bikini top and soft doors with plastic windows.  The hard steel doors don't appear to be original since the black paint seems to be off a shade.  I only drove it on clear days...no rain...no snow/salt.  The Jeep gets a lot of compliments and many thumbs-up.  Of course, with an old vehicle there are some flaws...she drips a little and the paint is original with minor hood dings and what I was told was paint fade from a tarp (see picture).  The front bumper has a scratch on it and the horn doesn't work (not sure why).  None of these flaws bothered me since the thing is so darn cool to drive.  I was even gifted a replacement windshield frame (only appears to be dusty), extra visors, rear fender flares and repair manuals which I will pass on to the winning bidder.  Good luck on the bids!

Jeep still working to improve Cherokee's 9-speed auto

Tue, Feb 3 2015

Fiat Chrysler is hoping an upcoming software update will stem the tide of consumer complaints surrounding its nine-speed automatic transmission. Owners of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee have reported a number of problems on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's SaferCar.gov website, since the new model and its troubled gearbox arrived way back in October 2013. The software update is "intended to keep the vehicle performing as intended, and to prevent durability issues from occurring in the future," an FCA spokesperson told Automotive News, and will be available to owners of both the 2014 to 2015 Jeep Cherokee and the 2015 Chrysler 200, which also uses the 9AT. While FCA will be notifying consumers of the update, owners can also request the software reflash if they happen into their dealer before then. Despite the widely documented problems with the transmission, the only complaints on NHTSA's website relate to the 2014 Cherokee – neither the 2015 Jeep nor the 200 have received any complaints. That bodes well as FCA prepares to begin deliveries of the 2015 Jeep Renegade and launch the Fiat 500X, both of which pair the 9AT with the 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder. "We have had to do an inordinate amount of intervention on that transmission, surely beyond what any of us had forecast," FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne told Automotive News. "There are things that we have done – that we continue to do. Our proactive customer care intervention has actually increased in intensity on these vehicles in 2014, especially in the second half." What's fascinating about the 9AT's problems are that they haven't been the fault of manufacturer ZF, but have related to software that wasn't "mature" and had "teething problems," Marchionne has said previously, AN reports. With the lack of criticism for the 9AT in 2015 models and this pending software update, though, here's hoping that FCA has finally figured out its fuel-sipping gearbox. Related Video:

China-FCA merger could be a win-win for everyone but politicians

Tue, Aug 15 2017

NEW YORK — Fiat Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne has said the car industry needs to come together, cut costs and stop incinerating capital. So far, his words have mostly fallen on deaf ears among competitors in Europe and North America. But it appears Marchionne has finally found a receptive audience — in China. FCA shares soared Monday after trade publication Automotive News reported the $18 billion Italian-American conglomerate controlled by the Agnelli family rebuffed a takeover from an unidentified carmaker from the Chinese mainland. As ugly as the politics of such a combination may appear at first blush, a transaction could stack up industrially, and perhaps even financially. A Sino-U.S.-European merger would create the first truly global auto group. That could push consolidation to the next level elsewhere. Moreover, China is the world's top market for the SUVs that Jeep effectively invented, so it might benefit FCA financially. A combo would certainly help upgrade the domestic manufacturer; Chinese carmakers have gotten better at making cars, but struggle to build global brands, and they need to develop export markets. Though frivolous overseas shopping excursions by Chinese enterprises are being reined in by Beijing, acquisitions that support the modernization and transformation of strategic industries still receive support, and the government considers the automotive industry to be strategic. A purchase of FCA by Guangzhou Automobile, Great Wall or Dongfeng Motors would probably get the same stamp of approval ChemChina was given for its $43 billion takeover of Syngenta. What's standing in the way? Apart from price (Automotive News said FCA's board deemed the offer insufficient) there's the not-insignificant matter of politics. Even as FCA shares soared, President Donald Trump interrupted his vacation to instruct the U.S. Trade Representative to look into whether to investigate China's trade policies on intellectual property. Seeing storied Detroit brands like Jeep, Chrysler, Ram and Dodge handed off to a Chinese company would provoke howls among Trump's economic-nationalist supporters. It might not play well in Italy, either, to see Alfa Romeo and Maserati answering to Wuhan instead of Turin — though Automotive News said they might be spun off separately. Yet, as Morgan Stanley observes, "cars don't ship across oceans easily," and political considerations increasingly demand local manufacture of valuable products.

Sunday Drive: Trucks and SUVs of all shapes and sizes

Sun, Nov 5 2017

The American automotive marketplace is dominated by trucks and SUVs, and so was the last week of coverage on Autoblog. By far, the most popular story of the week was our First Drive of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator. It may look like an old-school lumberer, but in reality Lincoln's flagship is a thoroughly modern, turbocharged-V6-powered, three-row, luxury people mover. The Jeep Wrangler is the world's most recognizable vehicle. So it's no surprise that the next version looks a whole heck of a lot like the last one, and the one before. It's all in the details, which is why we were so excited when Jeep decided to unleash a trio of images showing both two- and four-door Wranglers for us to dissect ahead of the SUV's official debut at the L.A. Auto Show later this year. Past that, spy photos of the next Chevy Silverado and Ram 1500 were predictably popular. See both of those below, and the cap it all off, check out the entire week's worth of SEMA coverage – including the bonkers Hennessey VelociRaptor 6x6 – in our mega image gallery at the bottom of this post. Enjoy! As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. 2018 Lincoln Navigator First Drive | From black sheep to flagship 2018 Jeep Wrangler revealed: First photos released before L.A.
