1979 Jeep Cj7, Golden Eagle, 401 Cid V8, 4 Speed on 2040-cars
Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States
I have owned this Jeep for about 15 years now. I do not really want to sell it but my lifestyle has changed and I need to move on to something more practical. First off while the Jeep is not 100% rust free, but it has very little rust, and it is only on the rear of the tub near the lower corners of the tailgate. I replaced the front fenders and windshield frame about 5 years ago and did paint the the original color but of course they do not match the tub as it has faded over the years. The original doors simply hung on the cowl and latched at the rear but were unsupported and rattled terribly, so I put doors off a YJ on it about the same time. The Jeep was originally a 304 v8, 3 speed. The engine started smoking and I decided it was time to rebuild the motor. Instead, I bought an AMC 401 to rebuild and install since it was an easy swap. It is bored .030 over, with forged pistons, and a balanced crankshaft. DUI HEI distributor and wires. We installed a be Cool high volume waterpump. It has an Edelbrock Victor Jr aluminum intake with and Edelbrock 4BBl Carb. Doug Thorley Headers, and dual Flow Master mufflers with tailpaipes to the rear. This combination has less than 5,000 miles on it. I then put in a new Centerforce clutch, and swapped in a T-18 transmission. The transmission has a granny low and is in stock configuration. I had a shop in town build a full width Dana 44 for the rear. It has drum brakes, an ARB locker and 4:56 gear ratio. It is hung on BDS 4" over lift springs with military wraps and greasable bushings. At the same time they narrowed a Dana 44 for the front. It has oversize disk brakes, an ARB locker and 4:56 gear ratio as well. It too is hung on BDS 4" over lift springs with military wraps and greasable bushings. They also moved all the steering componentry up over axle centerline for additional ground clearance. Also mounted the ARB compressor under the hood and switches under the dash. The interior has Best Top cloth bucket seats with headrests up front, along with a Best Top center console, and a Best Top fold and tumble rear seat. Factory guages with tach all work as they should. I put a Sony detachable face Stereo in the dash but have never wired it. I'd rather listen to the motor.... I mounted a family style rollbar in the Jeep, but have not updated the seat belts to the correct ones yet. The tires are 35x12.50x15 BFG Mud Terrains with about 3,000 miles on them. They are mounted on Centerline Convo HT Aluminum wheels. This tire/gear ratio combination makes the Jeep a blast to drive around town, and it easily goes down the highway at 60 or 65 miles an hour. It has factory power steering and power brakes although we did upgrade the master cylinder to a larger unit when we did the axles. Jeep also has factory hard top with factory bronze tinted windows, although they look gold to me. The reason I am selling it is that I have never had the Jeep four wheeling since we did all this work to it. I hate to admit it, but I just do not have the time to use it. Transportation is the buyers responsibility, but I will be happy to help load it for delivery after the vehicle is paid for. It sells only to the lower 48 states. Should you want more info about it please give me a call @ 719.440.4246 in the evenings, my name is Scott.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and a Final Four of automakers | Autoblog Podcast #723
Fri, Apr 1 2022In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski. We start out with news on the Lotus Eletre and Ferrari Purosangue. These two high-end crossovers are followed by discussions about the new inline-six engines from Stellantis and an overabundance of Hummer EV orders. Next we try something we've never tried before: ranking automaker blue bloods. We took inspiration from the current NCAA tournament, which features Duke, North Carolina, Villanova and Kansas — very much traditional blue-blood basketball programs — to name our Final Four automakers. Let us know if you agree or disagree with our picks and what your definition of a blue blood car brand is. We wrap up with a discussion about the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that Jeremy's been driving all week. Send us your questions for the Mailbag and Spend My Money at: Podcast@Autoblog.com. FCA plotting larger Jeep Renegade, Fiat 500XL
Mon, Mar 23 2015The joint development of the new Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X goes to show what the combined efforts of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group can yield. But don't expect the Italian-American automaker to stop there. According to Autocar, the company is planning to base another pair of larger SUVs on the same platform. The Jeep version would take the place of the previous Compass and Patriot, slotting in between the Renegade and Cherokee. Meanwhile, the Fiat version would further bolster the Cinquecento lineup to sit alongside the 500 hatchback, 500L minivan and 500X crossover. Details remain few and far between at the moment, but they wouldn't be the extent of the growth plans for either brand. Jeep is reportedly zeroing in on a decision on the long-rumored sub-Renegade model, while also preparing to expand up-market with the return of the Grand Wagoneer. Fiat is reportedly abandoning the prospect of offering a full model line as it once did. While the 500 range will continue to form a vital part of the brand's business, it's also tipped to be going after the no-frills, bare-bones market dominated by Renault's Dacia brand. To that end, it would seek to build upon the Panda by offering a larger, but still low-cost hatchback to rival the Ford Focus and VW Golf, and succeed the discontinued Fiat Bravo, but based on the 500L's platform and built in Turkey to keep costs down. This second pillar of the Fiat brand wouldn't likely be offered in the US, however, where we'd expect the 500 line to continue representing the Italian automaker. Related Video:
NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022
Thu, Mar 17 2016The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.
