But it's still a 33 year old Jeep and there are signs of rust on the body. I've included them in the pictures. The battery is getting old and needs to be recharged if it sits. The engine is very strong. The fuel sending unit does not work correctly and will need to be replaced. The Jeep indicates 1/2 a tank when it's near empty. Mileage exceeds the odometers mechanical limit (100,000+) Currently shows about 50,000 miles."

1979 CJ-7 with 4 inch suspension lift and 1 inch body lift. Engine was rebuilt in 2001 and has only been driven about 1000 miles since then.

List of upgrades includes:

Rebuilt AMC 360. Replaces the stock 304
New stainless steel brake lines and hoses installed this year
New master cylinder and brake booster (has a power brake conversion)
Jeep has front disc brakes and rear drums
Edelbrock carburetor
DUI electronic ignition
Electric fuel pump
Headers with custom bent dual exhaust. Installed catalytic converters in 2004 to meet PA emmissions
Warn front hubs conversion
Dana 20 rear end with Superior one piece axles and a PowerTrax locker
T-150, 3 speed transmission
Warn rear bumper with rear tire swing gate
Xenon tire flares
35 inch tires on aluminum rims
Fiberglass hardtop & bimimi top. Safari style half doors only. The rear window hardware on the hard top needs to be replaced.
Rinoliner on the inside bed and firewall
Full back leather seats with orignial rear rumble seat (still in great shape)
Tuffy security locker with stereo compartment
CD player radio, 200 W amp under passenger seat, and four speakers. Radio needs to be hooked back up. I took it out a year ago and never put it back.
Aftermarket heater that taps directly into the block. Put out at least twice the heat of the stock heater.
Currie tow shackles and a tow bar for easy towing with any 2 inch hitch

I've kept this Jeep garaged for the last 13 years (since the engine rebuild). But it's still a 33 year old Jeep and there are signs of rust on the steel body. I've included them in the pictures. This engine is very strong. Even though it's a 3 speed with large tires it drives on the highway easily. This Jeep is a great rock crawler. Thank you for looking and good luck.

What's really going on with the 2014 Jeep Cherokee's transmission issues?

Fri, 27 Sep 2013

On September 23, Automotive News reported that Chrysler had idled the second shift workers it hired just five weeks prior at its Toledo Assembly Complex to build the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. At the time, Chrysler said it had "built the critical number of vehicles we need to stock dealerships once containment is released" and did not want "to put additional strain on our logistics partners ... upon release." That reasoning was not only unusual, it didn't seem to make sense.
It appears the center of the nine-speed issue is software, not hardware.
That same day, the Detroit News ran a piece claiming workers at the Toledo factory said the halt was due to issues with the Cherokee's transmission. It put the number of already-built Cherokees needing fixes at 1,000 and said that some of the workers not laid off had been instructed "to take the Jeep on long test-drives." That made more sense. Three days later, on September 26, Automotive News reported that the 500 workers laid off had been reinstated, with engineers "speeding repairs on the SUV's powertrain software." The AN piece didn't put a number on how many units are being fixed, but it did say that 12,000 have been built and are awaiting delivery to dealers. The best it could say about when dealers will get them, however, is that "progress on a fix is being made. It's unclear when shipments to dealers will start."

Chrysler delays 2014 Jeep Cherokee media launch

Tue, 30 Jul 2013

Chrysler is making the unusual move of delaying the first media drives of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, which were slated to start next week in Seattle. And while something like this is a rare occurrence, and one that most of the Autoblog staff can't recall happening this publicly or so close to the event itself, it won't effect the actual on-sale date of the new Cherokee, which is set to hit showrooms in September.
"Over the last couple of weeks during final quality and durability testing, we have discovered the opportunity to further improve powertrain calibration," Chrysler told Automotive News. This marks the second notable delay in the Cherokee's short life, after production was delayed for roughly a month earlier this summer.
Still, we'd rather Chrysler make sure the Cherokee is ready for primetime before flying media in from around the country. It shows a willingness to get things right the first time, rather than offering media drives and then tweaking the car after the fact.

2015 Easter Jeep Safari Concepts First Drive

Wed, Apr 8 2015

Imagine if once a year your grandmother made a chocolate cake. Not a chocolate cake, that chocolate cake. Blow-your-mind chocolate cake. But she won't ever let you have any – you can only have the spatula and whatever's left over in the mixing bowl. And you don't care. You look forward to that spatula and bowl every year because – "Gadzooks!" – that is some stupendous cake. For us, that cake is the Easter Jeep Safari. An annual pilgrimage to Moab, Utah for a taste of what Fiat-Chrysler's off-road brand has cooked up in its Design Dome. "No, you can't have any," the company tells us, "but you can taste it here, then dream about it until next Easter." In Detroit, Jeep gave us a close look at the seven concepts it built for this year's 49th annual event. Then it went a step further and took those show cars to Mill Canyon, UT, to crawl the red rocks in Jeep's natural habitat. After all, the company calls Moab, "Our home away from home." And it's not true that we never get more than a taste of Jeep's conceptual goodness – 2011's JK8 pickup conversion kit is a slice of Safari creation we can now take home, for instance, as are the hood decals that adorned two of the concepts we drove this year. Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, told us that the evolution of Jeep Performance Parts came from listening to journalists and customers in his first year on the job in 2010. So there's that. But still, we want more cake. Like a full-on production Wrangler Africa. These being one-of-a-kind prototypes traipsing through a canyon of nearly immovable objects, we didn't go fast, we didn't go far, we didn't push hard. But we did drive all the Easter Jeeps, and even just this small taste was outstanding. View 30 Photos Jeep Chief While we listened attentively to the detailed spiels on all this conceptual candy, one question ran through our minds: "How am I going to get in the Chief before everyone else?" And we could see the same thought every colleague's face, those scheming bastards. And why not? The Ocean Blue tribute to the venerable Cherokee of old grabbed everyone's attention since the first teaser images weeks before the event, in part because the vintage truck is up there with mermaids for rarity and lustworthiness. Anything that goes this far in obeisance to that classic Jeep is always going to score huge marks. The Chief is a four-door Wrangler underneath, but in many ways it feels nothing like a Wrangler.
