1978 Jeep CJ5 Four Wheel Drive in Excellent Condition.

65,000 miles.
I have over $3,500.00 of receipts from the last two years.
When I purchased it, the Jeep was leaking oil very badly
from the rear main seal. My mechanic said the seal was
dried out from sitting for so long in the previous seller's
garage. Once the oil leaking problem was solved, the Jeep
has been a pleasure to drive. My mechanic repainted the
oil pan (it looks perfect), but I told him not to paint the valve
cover because I wanted it to stay original. The underside
of the Jeep is beautiful, with only very tiny spots of rust in
minor places.
The armor-plating was installed before I owned it, and was
not put on to hide any rust, but to reinforce the body and to
make it look cool. There is no rust underneath the armor-plating
and it can be removed very easily.
16 inch Eagle wheels with a spare off-road tire and Eagle wheel.
I unbolted the spare tire and carrier off of the back of the Jeep
to make it easier to access the tailgate.  It also comes with a
large, steel basket to carry coolers, etc. which gets inserted into
the trailer hitch sleeve.
It has a wonderful three speed, manual transmission that is geared
very nicely for driving. I have never had it on the beach, and the
previous owner never took it on the beach either. It has always
been garaged.
The soft top is not in good condition (the plastic windows have
yellowed and cracked, but the side doors are in excellent condition
(see picture of doors).
It has a new gas tank, new hoses, brake lines and other small
improvements.
I just purchased a brand-new Best-Top bikini top for it, and it
can be put on or removed in seconds. It fits very well, and
does a great job of protection. I like it much more than the full soft top.
This is the first CJ5 I have ever owned, and despite the lift kit and
large tires, it rides much better than I expected. It is very original
and has always been adult-owned.
Reserve price is under $5,000.00.
This Jeep is really fun to drive (I drive it to work almost everyday),
and people love it wherever I take it.
Serious bidders can call me at: (631) 513-9508 with any questions.
The Jeep is for sale locally and is sold in "as-is" condition.
I reserve to end the auction early, and bidders are encouraged to
inspect the Jeep before they bid on it.  The CJ5 is located in
East Hampton, New York.
Thank you.

Jeep going bigger with new Grand Wagoneer, smaller with sub-Renegade?

Tue, 11 Mar 2014

The headlines are still rolling in for the new Renegade that Jeep unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last week, but already reports are surfacing, citing sources within the company, about what Chrysler's iconic off-road brand will do next.
Speaking with Auto Express (whose reports we tend to take with a grain of salt or two), Jeep chief Mike Manley suggested that two courses of action are currently under consideration at Auburn Hills to develop two very different new models - one smaller and one larger than anything Jeep currently makes.
One plan would be to make an SUV or crossover even smaller than the new Renegade, although it isn't immediately clear what platform it would take. The Renegade (pictured above in Trailhawk spec) will be built in Italy alongside Fiat's upcoming 500X, but uses a heavily modified platform. We figure the smaller model, if approved, could base itself on the new Fiat Panda Cross.

Jeep will build old Wranglers next to new ones in Toledo

Mon, Mar 21 2016

Jeep made a lot of people happy when it confirmed that the next-generation Wrangler would continue to be built in Toledo, OH. Now, news is breaking about the lengths the automaker will go to in updating its northern Ohio factory. There's good news for Jeep dealers (more Wranglers to sell!), Jeep fans (more JKs to buy!), and Jeep itself (more money to be made!). According to a report from Automotive News, capacity at the factory will be increased to 350,000 units per year. That's around a 50 percent increase over what the Toledo complex can currently manage and is, according to Jeep boss Mike Manley, part of a move to keep production "at the right place" so "supply [stays] just behind demand." The other big news revealed by the AN report focuses on the future of the current Wrangler. Yes, the current JK has a future. It'll continue to be built at the Toledo factory up to six months after it successor arrives in showrooms, a move that's partially down to the way Jeep is shuffling production about. Toledo currently builds the Cherokee on a unibody production line – it'll continue to do so until March of 2017, when production will move to Belvidere, IL. The unibody line in Toledo will then be converted for body-on-frame production, which should take about six months. But during that time, the current JK (likely rebadged as a "Wrangler Classic") will continue to be built alongside another line of next-generation Wranglers, keeping dealers supplied with the today's Wrangler through March of 2018. The two Wranglers will overlap for about six months. This is all very good news if you've been waiting to pull the trigger on today's Wrangler. But move quickly – the clock is officially ticking. FCA goes all-in on Jeep and Ram brands on cheap gas bet

Wed, Jan 27 2016

It's no surprise that as SUV and truck sales remain strong in the wake of unusually cheap gas, Jeep and Ram sales are taking off. What is a surprise is that FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne thinks that cheap gas will be a "permanent condition," and feels strongly enough about it to change up North American manufacturing plans. Jeep appears to be the biggest beneficiary of the product realignment. In addition to increasing the sales estimates for the brand worldwide upwards to 2 million units a year by 2018, the brand will get a flood of investment for new product and powertrains. Consider the Wrangler Pickup to be part of the salvo, as well as the Grand Wagoneer three-row announced in 2014 as part of the original five-year plan. The Wrangler four-door will get at least two new powertrains, a diesel and mild hybrid version, in its next generation. That mild hybrid powertrain may utilize a 48-volt electrical system like the one that's being developed by Delphi and Bosch – which the suppliers think will be worth a 10 to 15 percent fuel economy gain at a minimum. Down the road, in the 2020s, the Wrangler could adopt a full hybrid system. The diesel powertrain is planned for 2019 or 2020. The Ram 1500 is also pegged to receive a mild hybrid system, again potentially based on 48-volt architecture, sometime after 2020. Lastly, Jeep and Ram will take over some of the production capacity of existing plants. The Sterling Heights, MI, plant that builds the Chrysler 200 will now build the Ram 1500; the Belvidere, IL, facility that produces the Dodge Dart will take over Cherokee output; the big Jeep facility in Toledo, OH, will be used for increased Wrangler demand. In 2015, according to FCA's numbers, car and van demand went down by 10 percent, but SUV demand went up 8 percent and truck demand 2 percent. Considering that these are high-margin vehicles, FCA can't ignore the math. FCA also won't build any new factories to supplement production to meet demand, but instead are reshuffling production priorities. Think of it this way: FCA is gambling on cheap gas being a permanent part of our lives, at least into the 2020s. By doubling down on SUVs and trucks, the company stands to win big, unless a spike in gas prices changes the landscape. FCA isn't talking about a Plan B, so they're all in. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
