The GOOD! This is a restored 1976 CJ5 with the AMC 401 that has plenty of power and then some, 3 speed T150 transmission, Dana 20 transfer case, Dana 30 front differential and a AMC 20 rear. This is a 2 year old restoration that still looks great!!! The pictures does not do the High Performance Red paint justice. The 401 cubic inch motor came out of a 1977 Grand Cherokee with 78000 mile on it. Has had new gasket set installed along with a new water pump, new factory AMC 600 Holley, K&N breather and filter, new radiator and fluid. The drivetrain works excellent with new Superior 1 piece axles, 4.11 gears and posi unit in the rear and a new clutch set. New dual exhaust from the manifolds back with flowmaster mufflers, 4 inch lift with new Skyjacker shocks. All of the exterior hardware has been replaced with stainless, hinges latches, tail lights, side marker lights etc...New fenders and tailgate, new fender flares. The tub has been Rhino line and not the cheap stuff either. I have a New Best top and doors in the box along with a new Best bikini top that's never been on the Jeep since it's garage kept. The tires are Yokahama Geolander AT-S with less than 500 miles on them The speedometer head was replaced when I bought the Jeep that's why I specified 7650 mile. Over $12000 invested with myself doing a lot of the work. The BAD. The windshield is fogged a little around the edges, small place in the paint that is hardly noticeable and a ever so small tansmission drip about the size of a dime after driving it. I'm been very honest about this Jeep! It drive great, run great and looks great.  Feel free to contact me with any questions because I'm sure I miss some details.  Thanks!

'84 MotorWeek Cherokee, Bronco and Blazer comparison indulges your SUV nostalgia

Fri, Jan 16 2015

These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test. Check out this clip to see just how far this segment has progressed in the past three decades or just get a blast of nostalgia from these now vintage models. Maserati Levante crossover not Jeep based after all?

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

Maserati has been teasing its crossover project since 2011, which is when it first showed off the Kubang concept (pictured above). Still, the production version, rumored to be called the Levante, remains a complete mystery. The CUV was first rumored to borrow the platform from the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but new rumors indicate that the Italian, luxury crossover might actually take the underpinnings from the Quattroporte and Ghibli.
In a brief interview, Maserati CEO Harald Wester told CNN Money that the Levante wouldn't use Jeep's platform. Motor Trend spoke with an unnamed Maserati engineer who confirmed the rumor. Officially, the company says that no decision has been made.
We can add this to another long list of rumors about the Italian CUV. It was originally supposed to be built at Chrysler's Jefferson North assembly plant in Detroit. Then, plans were changed to build it in Italy.

Dodge and Jeep recalling 895k SUVs for possibility of headliner fires

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

Dodge and Jeep are announcing recalls of a total of 895,000 Durango and Grand Cherokee models worldwide from the 2011 through 2014 model years. There's a possibility that the wiring in the sun visor can short circuit and cause a fire. It specifically affects vehicles built between January 5, 2010, and December 11, 2013, and there are approximately 651,000 of them in the US, 45,700 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico and 175,000 outside of North America.
Screws that fasten the sunvisor to the headliner may pierce wires in the visor, if the part has been removed or serviced, potentially causing a fire risk. If the wires short circuit, they could overheat and potentially combust. The automakers report three injuries caused by this defect, and according to the investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "there may be a total of 52 unique fire incidents."
To fix the problem, Dodge and Jeep will inspect the vehicles for suspect wiring, and all of the models, whether damaged or not, will get a new sun visor spacer with a wire guide to stop the possibility of short circuits. According to the automakers' announcement, "this condition is not present in vehicles which have not had the headliner or vanity mirror serviced." They will notify affected owners, and repairs will begin in August.
