1974 Original Cj5 Renegade on 2040-cars
Lebanon, New Jersey, United States
This does not come around often...say once every 40 years. This 1974 is completely factory original. The paint is original as Toledo applied it, graphics, seats, windshield, body, engine....everything. I spent months cleaning and polishing and detailing every part of this jeep to get back to showroom condition. I purchased this vehicle from the original owner in Missouri. She was a widow of 33 years. This jeep was her husbands and the couple owned a summer cottage on a lake just outside KC. He purchased it new in Kansas City in 1974 and took it directly to their summer home. There he put 22, 250 miles on the jeep until 1981 when after he had put the vehicle in the garage or the evening he had a stroke and shortly died. The jeep was left in the garage for 33 years by his widow so as to preserve his memory along with all his other trappings. He took great care of this vehicle, just getting new tires on the vehicle in 1979 (white walls) changing the oil, filters and plugs. He placed vinyl labels indicating the date and mileage on the cowl and filters. I surmise a rather anal guy who loved his chick magnet ride. When I purchased it: 1.) I changed the brake Master cylinder, wheel cylinders and installed new brake lining and hoses because they were seized from non use and the fluid was like mud. 2.) Installed a new fuel tank because I could not get the old fuel out. 3.) Sent the carb out to be rebuilt by American Carburetor, Inc (no replacement parts, NOS original AMC gaskets and original tag with matching date that came with it) It looks and operates like new. 4.) Replaced the E-Brake cable because it was very stiff and hard to operate. 5.) Flushed the entire coolant system and installed new hoses. 6.) Replaces the fan belt 7.) Replaced the rubber fuel lines. 8.) Complete compound, polish inside, under the hood etc. 9.) Change all lubes in diff, engine, trans, transfer case and lube chassis. I have the original WHITCO top and Doors in white. The top is in new condition because it was not on the vehicle at the time it was placed in the garage Very clean and super original. The spare is the original Goodyear Polyglas Suburbanite. With original aluminum wheels. Whitco original spare tire cover was on it when I purchased. There are factory dates and part numbers on the frame that are clearly visible, and the stamped frame serial numbers match to VIN. There is only surface rust staining on the floor. The seats are original to this vehicle, soft and strong: are beige in color, only one small 1" seam separation on the drivers seat. The seat belts are new condition, one set of the rear seat belts are still in the factory protective black bag the way they came from the factory. Amazing! The Engine fires immediately and runs very, very smoothly, with no leaks, clicks, pings. All Gauges work, lights, brakes, wipers, horn, turn sigs. The factory color is Mellow Yellow matches the tag. |

Wards names its 2015 10 Best Interiors list
Fri, Apr 17 2015Wards Automotive has named the winners of its 10 Best Interior awards, covering a wide but affordable array of vehicles. Where last year's list contained two six-figure vehicles, including the $372,800 Rolls-Royce Wraith, this year's is, well, a whole lot more reasonable. The publication lists the Mercedes-Benz C400 at $65,000 (which seems off), making it the most expensive vehicle here. That said, we'd argue that the entire C-Class line deserves to make this year's list, owing to its varied and high-quality selection of materials. The other vehicle to break the $60,000 mark, meanwhile, is the $60,675 Ford F-150 King Ranch, which has 327,000 pounds of leather lining its interior. Only one other German car, the BMW i3, and one other pickup truck, the GMC Canyon, managed to make this year's list. Here's the full list of this year's winners: 2014 BMW i3 ($52,550) 2015 Chrysler 300C Platinum ($51,175) 2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch ($60,675) 2015 GMC Canyon SLT ($40,465) 2015 Honda Fit EX-L ($21,590) 2015 Jeep Renegade Limited ($33,205) 2015 Kia Sedona SXL ($43,295) 2016 Mazda6 Grand Touring ($33,395) 2015 Mercedes C400 ($65,000) 2015 Nissan Murano SL ($41,905) See what we mean about the mainstream vehicles? Not only is there a distinct lack of luxury brands, it's the price of some of the vehicles that surprise. The Honda Fit, Jeep Renegade and Mazda6 are very reasonably priced, especially when you compare Wards price with the starting price. The Renegade Limited starts at less than $25,000, the Mazda at less than $22K and the Fit at under $16,000. Head over to Wards for a more detailed explanation of why each vehicle won. Updated 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee ace same controversial moose test it failed in 2012 [w/video]
Thu, 02 Jan 2014Some background: one of the more scandalous international incidents of he-said/he-said from 2012 was when Swedish magazine Teknikens Varld put the Jeep Grand Cherokee through its "moose (or elk) test" and reported that the SUV nearly rolled over. That lead to a whole lot of accusations and rebuttals: more than one website and Chrysler's own blog reported that the Jeep was overloaded; Chrysler said Teknikens printed the magazine then let Chrysler respond, Teknikens answered all of the charges in a lengthy post and said Chrysler was given a chance to comment before it went to print; when Chrysler sent investigators to oversee the test and the Jeep didn't go up on two wheels as it did in the first test, furthermore all four wheels stayed on the ground when Auto Motor und Sport tested a Grand Cherokee in the same way.
Teknikens then re-ran the test with a new vehicle and said it's been doing this test since the 1970s, uses the loading information that Chrysler provides to the Swedish motor authority and the previous Grand Cherokee passed with no problem. In the second test, the Jeep failed again, then it gave Chrysler engineers access to the car's electronics and ran the test again. In that second round the Grand Cherokee didn't repeat the lurid two-wheel action, but in eleven runs it blew out front left tire seven times. Chrysler still objects to the results of all of those tests and maintains that vehicle was safe.
The 2014 Grand Cherokee was given its shot at the gauntlet in the latest round of moose tests, and Teknikens Varld reports that it passed without any problem at all, its stability control working perfectly, controlling motion at low speeds and all the way up to 44.1 miles per hour. You can watch the video of the new test and read the press release from the magazine on the updated Grand Cherokee below.
You probably won't see FCA's famous Easter eggs on an Alfa Romeo
Thu, Nov 17 2016They started in Jeeps, with images of seven-slot grilles showing up on windshield edges, the text "SINCE 1941" appearing in the clear plastic of headlight units, and a relief map of Moab engraved into a rubber cubby liner. Then a Chrysler got a map of Detroit and the outline of Laguna Seca materialized near the Viper's window switch. We've come to call them Easter eggs, but Klaus Busse points out that they were never really meant to be secrets, just ways to dress up what he calls "dead plastic." He's nevertheless cool with the phrase being applied and likes the enthusiastic response these design details get. Busse is intimately familiar with many of them, having signed off on many of them in his time as head interior designer for FCA's US operations. He recently moved to Europe to lead Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Fiat design there, so when I caught up with him next to the new Stelvio crossover at the Alfa stand in LA, I had to ask: Are we going to see any of those neat design details in Alfas or Maseratis anytime soon? The short answer is no. But he didn't say it's out of the question. Busse said if, for example, a designer wanted to put an Italian phrase somewhere on a car that was in keeping with the brand, he would allow it. Although he didn't come out and say it, it seems like he might feel this type of fun design element isn't necessarily appropriate for a higher-end brand like Alfa. And I get that. But I'm still going to check all the compartments of that new Alfa crossover for a map of the Stelvio Pass.
