1973 Jeep CJ-6 / 4x4

The Jeep CJ-6 was introduced for 1956, and was in production for just under 20 years. It was essentially identical to the classic CJ-5, just stretched by a massive 20 inches. This longer 101” wheelbase added substantial cargo space to the vehicle and was our answer to the endless requests for a roomier vehicle.

In 1965, the CJ-6 benefited from the same “Dauntless” V6 engine as the CJ-5, which meant a tremendous 155 horsepower (practically double that of the base engine) was now on tap for those who opted for it. This quest for power took another step forward in 1973, when parent company AMC shoved a 304-cubic-inch V8 (or the optional 360-cubic-inch) under the hoods of all CJ models. AMC also improved the rest of the vehicle by equipped heavier axles, bigger brakes and a wider track.

The CJ-6 was loved by the people in need of the extra space and comfortable ride suspension. Only 50,172 units over the course of its two-decade life. This model is entering the collector’s model and due the low production numbers will be a sought after truck.

This particular model rolled off the assembly line as a fully loaded Jeep with all the options available at the time. Power steering, power brakes, the 360 V-8 motor were the only factory upgrades you could have gotten and this one has them all.

I have owned this Jeep for years now and have babied it until today. It has all the extra options and goodies anyone could want like air lockers for the snow or mud.

This Jeep rides and handles like a dream! It has a very smooth (non-bouncy suspension) that makes it very stable and a joy to drive unlike the CJ5’s and 7’s.

 photo IMG_0626_zpse864edd3.jpg

It has the tough T-18 transmission with granny gear that will not break!

 photo IMG_0637_zpsddcfc8e9.jpg

It has a top of the line clean sound system you can find out there with a 6 speaker and tweeter and dual amps and bass box in rear setup (it’s really sweet).

It comes with a lightweight vintage camping trailer so that you can haul all your gear when you want to go up in high country.

It would truly take me a very long time to itemize the entire laundry list of great new add on’s that has gone into this ride. (trust me you wont be disappointed, come check it out for yourself)

I have no choice but to sell this sweet ride because I have leased my warehouse and my collector cars have to go. Here is your chance for a real deal at my loss.

I am not desperate or needing money being the reason why I am crazy enough to sell this Jeep for none other reason except a space concern at the time.

 photo IMG_0718_zpsb01b1fa6.jpg

I am willing to stand behind and guarantee this Jeep to be rust free and in top mechanical condition. This is my own personal vehicle and it does kill me that I must part ways with it. My true loss – your gain!

Fri, Oct 29 2021

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Senior Editor James Riswick. They've been driving some exciting new EVs, like the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and the Mercedes-Benz EQS. They also discuss driving the new Subaru Forester Wilderness, as well as the perfectly agreeable Toyota Camry XSE Hybrid. James compares four big-name off-roaders — the Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, Toyota 4Runner and Land Rover Defender — based on their ability to accommodate a big load of luggage. Next they reach into the mailbag for comments on the Genesis GV70, as well as a Spend My Money question about replacing a wrecked Subaru Ascent with another three-row SUV. Driving the Panamera and Mike's Rant | Autoblog Podcast #487

Thu, Sep 8 2016

This week we cover some recent news like the upcoming Land Rover Discovery, updates to FCA's large car platform (including the Challenger), and talk about water injection. Then we go into what we've been driving - David just finished his time in the Porsche Panamera Turbo and Mike tried the GMC Acadia. And then Mike (who is still uncomfortable writing in the third person) goes on a rant about why automakers shouldn't specify which cars are aimed at women. The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want questionable buying advice, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com.
