1957 Jaguar XK140 MC Roadster
One of the 1950s’ most iconic motor cars, the Jaguar XK series has always had a strong following. The technologically innovative and stunning XK120 proved to be extremely popular thanks to its remarkable new twin-cam inline-6 cylinder engine, swoopy styling and genuine 120 mph performance (not to mention the surprisingly affordable price). For 1955, the XK120 became the XK140, which, while substantially the same, was improved in key areas. XK140s offer more leg room and more power, rack and pinion steering, telescoping shock absorbers, and improved brakes. As ever, coupe, drophead coupe, and roadster versions were available with the roadster always remaining the most beautiful and pure model. The most desirable and highest performing variant was the SE model, which could be further enhanced with the competition derived “C-Type” cylinder head. The SE designation stood for Special Equipment, which included wire wheels, dual exhaust, fog lamps, larger carburetors, and usually C-Type cylinder head, which resulted in 20 more horsepower. These cars were also designated MC, when fitted with C-Type head. This particular car is a matching numbers overdrive example that was previously on the east coast before its current Arizona owner acquired it. It was restored many years ago, although the restoration is now showing its age. The car has a nice body which displays good gaps and straight panels. The paint is older and while glossy, it was not done to the standards to which this car would be restored today. There are some scratches and surface imperfections throughout. The car retains its correct MC equipment including dual exhaust, wire wheels, and Lucas Flamethrower fog lamps. The chrome is generally good although there is pitting in some locations and some scratching in others. The car has Lucas tribar headlamps in excellent condition, and the remaining lights are also excellent. The interior is complete and was redone many years ago. It is now showing its age, with older carpets and upholstery in incorrect materials. Both are in serviceable condition. The gauges, switches, steering wheel, seats, and door panels are present and correct for the car, which would make a correct and complete restoration easy to perform. They are intact and in good older condition. The top is present but showing its age, as are the side curtains. The engine compartment is correct but unrestored in appearance. Both the block and cylinder head are matching to the chassis. The cylinder head has the remains of its correct red paint the car carburetors are correct down to the original air cleaners. The trunk appears to be original and is intact with vinyl upholstery, plywood trunk floor, and a variety of accessories including spare, tool roll, tools, jack, and grease gun. The car runs and drives fairly well, although the solenoid-actuated automatic choke mechanism appears to be inoperative. The undercarriage displays some corrosion to the body in the inner rockers. The frame itself appears to be solid throughout, as is the trunk floor, which was replaced in the past. The mechanical components appear as they should and a stainless steel exhaust appears to have been installed fairly recently. This is an excellent car to drive as is with patina, or would make an outstanding basis for a high quality and relatively straightforward restoration. The car is extremely complete, with matching numbers block and head, original weather equipment, spare, jack, tools, and correct components throughout. The car has the correct interior, engine compartment, and exterior fittings, making an ideal car to thoroughly restore. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: This car is sold AS IS without warranty. Jaguar Heritage to auction off part of its classic-car collection
Mon, Feb 19 2018A few years back it was reported that Jaguar Land Rover had purchased the James Hull classic car collection in its entirety. The collection is beyond significant, as it was at the time of sale the biggest single collection of British cars in the world and the largest private car collection in the UK. Consisting of 543 cars, it ranged from the mundane to the obscure, including some extremely rare prototypes. There were 130 Jaguars, for example, from the C-type to the D-type to the XKSS. When the cars were put up for sale in 2014, the asking price was a not-insubstantial $170 million. JLR didn't reveal how much it spent to buy the cars, but now it seems the carmaker is about to recoup some of those costs. At least 50 cars from the collection will be sold by auction house Brightwells, as part of the Affordable Classics at Bicester sale on March 21; some reports have said JLR would be eventually offloading as many as 100 cars. Looking at the listing, there are some definite gems in there. Not all cars are British, as there are Citroens, Mercedes-Benzes, a Fiat and a Goggomobil. Jaguars and Land Rovers are notably absent from Brightwells' listing, which we take as a clue that the sale will consist of cars not crucial to JLR's wellbeing and heritage. That said, for a lover of British cars there's a possibility to grab something truly interesting: For example, the Reliant Scimitar Ferguson 4x4 Prototype must be worth preserving. A 4WD pioneer also known for Massey-Ferguson tractors, Ferguson fitted its system in Jensens as well as a prototype 4WD Mustang in the 1960s. The fiberglass-bodied Reliant sports car is an interesting sidenote in Ferguson's history. Then there's a Vauxhall Chevette 2300 HS, which is a veritable rally-bred RWD hot hatch in comparison to the American market Chevrolet Chevette, its distant relative. On the hot hatch front, there are also Metro and Maestro turbos, which offer plenty of poke in a light, boxy body. Or if you view the internet's popular "Worst Cars Ever Made" lists as shopping lists, you could build your own collection of slightly dodgy cars: Start with the unfortunate-looking Vanden Plas Allegro, continue to the malaise-tastic Morris Ital Camper, and finish it off with a late-model Lada Riva wagon from the mid-1990s. Some cars are in tip-top shape, and some are best seen as restoration projects, like the very pretty Borgward Isabella coupe from 1960.
Never-was Jaguar C-X75 hybrid supercar driven by Autocar
Mon, 24 Jun 2013There's lucky, and then there's "I got to drive the Jaguar C-X75." The crew from Autocar is among the handful of souls who can honestly make the latter statement. Jaguar invited the publication down for a little time in both the passenger and driver seats around the automaker's proving grounds. While there's no end to the jealousy oozing from our pores, the good news is that there were a few cameras on hand to capture the experience. As you may recollect, the C-X75 Concept was a unique hybrid supercar concept built to duke it out with the likes of the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 and the McLaren P1. The British automaker put it on track for production, but unfortunately stopped the project about six months ago.
With a twincharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine capable of revving to 10,000 rpm, the C-X75 concept yields 502 horsepower and gets partnered with four electric motors - one at each wheels. A 19kWh lithium-ion battery pack serves up 300kW of power, and combined, the motors and battery are capable of yielding an additional 194 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Combined, the driveline is good for more than 850 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. Said another way, the C-X75 will do the 0-60 miles per hour dance in under three seconds.
And Autocar got to drive it. You can watch the video for yourself by scrolling below.
Is this a Jaguar or Land Rover of the future? Yes, the near future
Tue, Feb 18 2020Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled a concept vehicle, Project Vector, that the company heralds as preview of future urban transport. The Project Vector is an EV, naturally, and is built on a skateboard chassis with all mechanicals under the floor. That provides for maximum space efficiency in the city-sized vehicle—JLR says it's roughly four meters long, which would make it about half a foot longer than today's Mini Cooper hardtop. It also allows for reconfigurability. The interior is accessed via dual center-opening sliding doors on one side. Four individual seats appear to be mounted on tracks and are shown facing in the same direction, but JLR also says the vehicle can be adapted for delivery use (presumably with most of the seats removed). Project Vector is described as "autonomous-ready," but for now it has a steering wheel and pedals. It's also claimed to be optimized for ride-sharing or private use. The vehicle was developed at the UK's National Automotive Innovation Centre, with the intention to make it a part of the "urban mobility solutions" in the "ecosystem of a smart city," according to JLR. The first such smart city will be Coventry, where an "urban mobility service" will be launched in 2021.
