It's time for me to downsize my collection before I lose garage space next year. I will be listing a 24K mile 1996 Mercedes AMG C36, a 17K mile1988 Mazda RX7 Convertible, a 1968 and 1972 Olds 442 Coupes, and this car. Please watch for my other listings if you are interested. All of these cars have something special to offer. I will be happy to assist with any inspection or pick up by carrier. I am 45 minutes South of the Atlanta airport. Payment will be accepted by bank wire transfer, check, or cash. No vehicle will be released before all funds have cleared my bank. I have a perfect eBay rating and want to keep it that way. I ask the same of you. Please don't bid unless you have the funds available to complete the transaction. All vehicles will be advertised locally, and I reserve the right to end any aution early. In fairness to all bidders, I will not disclose reserve prices. Good luck to all.

When the new XK8 made an appearance for the 1997 model year, I thought the coupe was the most beautiful car Jaguar had built since the original XKE. I still feel that way. This particular car has a very low production exterior color that I have been told was one of thirty built late in the model year. I have never seen another one like it, and I get comments any time I take it out. Her lines are classic, and I believe she will still look fantastic twenty years from now.  It is with great regret that I offer her for sale, and believe the next owner will be more than impressed when they first see her. This is a true case of a picture not doing justice to the real thing. While I don't have the original window sticker, I know this car listed for around $70K when new.

The body is almost perfect, with no paint work. There are perhaps five very minor paint chip/nicks throughout the entire car, and the metallic paint has a deep shine. This color is much lighter than the usual Racing Green, and has a lot of blue highlights that are apparent under certain lighting conditions. The engine compartment is extremely clean, the trunk looks unused, and the leather interior and wood is beautiful. There is a small stress crack in the glove box lid that keeps me from calling the interior perfect. I have replaced the original carpeted mats with cocoa mats because the rubber backing was beginning to deteriorate, but have saved them for the next owner. The factory chrome Revolver wheels are absolutely brand new in appearance, and the Dunlop tires have less than 1000 miles on them. The original full size tire is in the boot, and the halogen headlights are clear.

I have performed all needed maintenance items in the last year, including replacement of the entire thermostat housing and window regulators (common problems on this car). All fluids have been replaced, and the A/C system recharged. All options work perfectly, including the 6 disc CD changer. The sound system is wonderful. I believe she could be driven anywhere without worries. Please excuse my long winded description for this ad, but this one is hard for me to turn loose. You won't be disappointed...

Jaguar bringing all-wheel-drive F-Type to LA Auto Show [w/video]

Thu, 06 Nov 2014

Jaguar's big splash at last year's Los Angeles Auto Show was showing off the slinky F-Type Coupe; perhaps one of the loveliest car shapes on the road today. This year the company won't have a show-stopping new design to offer, but the news that all-wheel drive is coming to the F-Type range is, nevertheless, pretty spectacular.
Mixed in with news about a technical partnership between Jaguar and the Bloodhound SSC World Land Speed Record program, the British brand announced this morning that it will show the first AWD F-Type Coupe at the 2014 LA show later this month.
Jaguar tells us that the sure-footed cat, in AWD F-Type R Coupe form, will run from 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds, with a limited top speed of 186 mph.

Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017

Tue, Feb 17 2015

Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).

Editors' Choice: Top Five 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show Debuts

Thu, Sep 17 2015

Consider the 2015-16 auto show season officially kicked off. The Frankfurt Motor Show offered a great look at the newest crop of production cars and conceptual machines, and brought some old favorites back into the spotlight for a closer look. (The Alfa Romeo Giulia, for example, debuted in June, but this was the first time most of us saw it.) Now that the dust has settled and we're all on flights back to the US, our editors cast their votes for their personal favorites from the Frankfurt show. These are the cars we truly loved seeing the most. But unlike other shows, there was no one runaway winner – all of the Top Five received positive praise from our team. We won't spoil the results, though. Scroll down to see what we liked most from this year's Frankfurt expo. 5th Place – MERCEDES-BENZ IAA CONCEPT View 12 Photos MIKE AUSTIN: The clean lines on this concept have me excited for a more elegant beauty to future Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Next to the Concept IAA, the lovely S-Class Coupe looks like an overstyled barge. DAVID GLUCKMAN: Yeah, the extendable rear is neat and all, but I'm more interested in the front-end styling of this one. It looks like the Tron version of a 300SL, in a good way. I'm hopeful it portends the future of Mercedes design. STEVEN EWING: I was super impressed when Mercedes said that, with the rear end extended, this concept has a drag coefficient of just 0.19. That's crazy aerodynamic. I'm not head-over-heels about the styling, but I think the lessons learned from this concept are really important, and will play a huge role in the future of Mercedes' products. 4th Place – ALFA ROMEO GIULIA View 15 Photos SEYTH MIERSMA: I can hardly express how in love with this car I am. The styling feels creative, modern, and evocative, without going over the top. The proposed performance is spectacular. And the Alfa badge speaks to a legacy of romantic motoring. DAVID GLUCKMAN: Pretty Italian car makes big promises and will probably deliver on about three quarters of them. I think that will still be enough for me. JEREMY KORZENIEWSKI: I'm really intrigued by the Giulia. It looks great, sounds awesome, and I'm expecting it to have a load more character than its German rivals. I hope I'm not disappointed. 3rd Place – JAGUAR F-PACE View 15 Photos GREG MIGLIORE: It's the first SUV for Jaguar, and I think they nailed the design, capability, and electronics. It's the right car at the right time.
