1956 Jaguar XK140 MC Fixed Head Coupe

Limited Edition - Fun to Own & Drive - Excellent Candidate for full Restoration.  Ready For Sale, Title in Hand.

--  Chassis No. S815503DN
--   Engine No. G7382-8S

About the Model:

The Jaguar XK140MC was manufactured by Jaguar between 1954 and 1957 as the successor to the XK120.  Upgrades included more interior space, improved brakes, rack and pinion steering, increased suspension travel, and telescopic shock absorbers instead of the older lever arm design.  The Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) shared the DHC's interior trim and rear seat. The prototype Fixed Head Coupe retained the XK120 Fixed Head roof-profile, with the front wings and doors the same as the Drophead. In production, the roof was lengthened with the screen being placed further forward, shorter front wings, and longer doors. This resulted in more interior space, and more legroom.

According to Car-Nection in the three years of production there were only a total of 2800 manufactured in Coventry, England.  Of those 733 were sold domestically in Great Britain and 2067 were manufactured for export.  An exact number of how many of these cars a left is unknown, however, it can easily stated that there are far fewer on the road today.  This particular engine is the "C" Type, making it even more valuable.  The exact spec would be XK 140 3.4 SE (C-Type Head) ("MC" in USA).  This special model is rare and highly collectible.

Car History

Manufactured in Coventry, England for export.  Left hand drive.  This is an original barn find near Chicago, Illinois.  The original owner is unknown, yet since it's find in the early 1960's only three owners have had the car titled in their name.  All are from the same family.  The car has resided in Idaho since the early 1990's and was once owned by Orrin B. Cox.  Cox served in WWII, went on to work in the FBI, Secret Service, then became an influential figure in the Idaho State Judicial Branch serving as a Judge for Canyon County in Southwest Idaho.  The current owner and relative inherited the car in the early 2000's, enjoys driving it on occasion and has kept the vehicle well stored in covered, secure garage parking.

Car Plus Points:

This is the original paint job which has survived the decades with only a few minor abrasions.  It is the very popular Jaguar Racing Green, which is still a classic shade and color today.  Many of the original accessories are on the car.  Even the original spare tire is in the trunk with the original spoke rims.  Add to that a worn, but original owner's manual and original tool kit.  It is very fun to drive and is always an attention grabber.  The engine is in good shape, it runs fines.

Car Restoration Needs:

To bring this car up to mint condition the following points should be considered.  Look carefully at the photos in the gallery as we have attempted to photograph and document everything possible.

--  Electrical wiring, some things work, some don't
--  Minor abrasions on body paint, some touch up work only
--  All window molding needs replaced.  It's currently worn and cracked
--  Small rock chip on front window, lower right side
--  Some service rust on floorboards under upholstery
--  Brake work.  Brakes tend to pull to the left.
--  Possibly needs new alternator, although that could be electrical
--  Original wood dashboard is somewhat weathered
--  Under carriage needs cleaning, some, but has only a little rust

If you are willing to put some time, plus a bit of money and elbow grease into the car you can very easily bring it up to mint condition and have equity in the vehicle.

Jaguar Heritage to auction off part of its classic-car collection

Mon, Feb 19 2018

A few years back it was reported that Jaguar Land Rover had purchased the James Hull classic car collection in its entirety. The collection is beyond significant, as it was at the time of sale the biggest single collection of British cars in the world and the largest private car collection in the UK. Consisting of 543 cars, it ranged from the mundane to the obscure, including some extremely rare prototypes. There were 130 Jaguars, for example, from the C-type to the D-type to the XKSS. When the cars were put up for sale in 2014, the asking price was a not-insubstantial $170 million. JLR didn't reveal how much it spent to buy the cars, but now it seems the carmaker is about to recoup some of those costs. At least 50 cars from the collection will be sold by auction house Brightwells, as part of the Affordable Classics at Bicester sale on March 21; some reports have said JLR would be eventually offloading as many as 100 cars. Looking at the listing, there are some definite gems in there. Not all cars are British, as there are Citroens, Mercedes-Benzes, a Fiat and a Goggomobil. Jaguars and Land Rovers are notably absent from Brightwells' listing, which we take as a clue that the sale will consist of cars not crucial to JLR's wellbeing and heritage. That said, for a lover of British cars there's a possibility to grab something truly interesting: For example, the Reliant Scimitar Ferguson 4x4 Prototype must be worth preserving. A 4WD pioneer also known for Massey-Ferguson tractors, Ferguson fitted its system in Jensens as well as a prototype 4WD Mustang in the 1960s. The fiberglass-bodied Reliant sports car is an interesting sidenote in Ferguson's history. Then there's a Vauxhall Chevette 2300 HS, which is a veritable rally-bred RWD hot hatch in comparison to the American market Chevrolet Chevette, its distant relative. On the hot hatch front, there are also Metro and Maestro turbos, which offer plenty of poke in a light, boxy body. Or if you view the internet's popular "Worst Cars Ever Made" lists as shopping lists, you could build your own collection of slightly dodgy cars: Start with the unfortunate-looking Vanden Plas Allegro, continue to the malaise-tastic Morris Ital Camper, and finish it off with a late-model Lada Riva wagon from the mid-1990s. Some cars are in tip-top shape, and some are best seen as restoration projects, like the very pretty Borgward Isabella coupe from 1960.

Is Jaguar testing an electrified XE?

Sun, Mar 22 2015

Rumors about Jaguar Land Rover moving further into electrification for its models have been circulating for the last several months. Thanks to some new spy shots, there's even more evidence that the company could have a hybrid or electric model on the way. According to our spies, this rather innocuous looking XE was spied with a group of camouflaged XF and F-Pace prototypes in Spain. Everything about the luxury sedan looks fairly stock until you see the rear end. There, just under the taillight, is a circular blue badge with an "E" in it. That emblem and the vehicle being with other test cars hints at the possibility of Jaguar doing something electrified with the vehicle. Unfortunately, there are no other clues here to determine exactly what is happening underneath the skin. Jaguar Land Rover has been insinuating its intention to build greener models for a while. The company even founded an engineering center partially for them in 2013. A fully electric powertrain is reportedly under development to slot into the F-Pace and maybe also for a Land Rover. Meanwhile, Jag has a trademark on the name EV-Type. With these new photos, the signs of JLR's coming electrification continue to mount.
