1956 Jaguar XK140 3.4L "Special Equipment" Drophead Coupe
Chassis No. A818883DN Engine No. G7861-8
From 1948 to 1954, the brilliant XK 120 established Jaguar at the forefront of sports car manufacturers with its elemental yet graceful lines and impressive performance. It was soon clear that its sound original design could easily be improved and updated. As such, the XK 140 arrived in late 1954 with a comprehensive list of improvements designed to overcome the few shortcomings of its predecessor. The XK 140 provided enhanced performance and passenger comfort to maintain Jaguar's appeal, particularly in the all-important U.S. market. This Car This original left-hand drive Drophead Coupe was completed on September 10, 1956, destined for Deutschland on the 25th of September through R.M. Overseas in Frankfurt. The car was purchased new by Ivan S. Ponteatine, most likely a U.S. citizen stationed at Schloss-Kaserne in Butzbach, Germany. It is believed the car remained in central Europe for the majority of its life, resurfacing in Switzerland in the early 1990's. In years following, the 140 made its way to the U.S. and today displays a beautifully mellowed restoration and makes for an impeccably well driving open sporting Jaguar. The DHC was the most luxurious and expensive XK100 series, available for the first time in 1953. Whereas the roadster was a bare bones open car, the drophead coupe featured exterior door handles, retractable glass windows an insulated boot that can lower within seconds and lavish wood throughout the deluxe interior. Finished in Pacific Blue Paintwork over beautiful corresponding leather upholstery and top, beautiful brightwork throughout, well-paired to bright chrome wire wheels with ear knockoffs and Dunlop bias-plys and rare amber Lucas fog lamps upfront; the unique styling cues of this Jaguar strongly convey the essence of a classic British roadster. The Special Equipment Drophead carries a matching Spare Assembly, Owner's Manual and Tool roll with t-wrench, grease gun, a wooden knockoff wrench and proper Thor hammer. Additionally, an array of nostalgic driving accessories accompany the car including leather driving goggles, gloves and cashmere scarf. As a highly sought after XK140 in Jaguar's lineup, this Drophead Coupe will certainly command attention from any astute sports car enthusiast. Lotus Esprit S1 gets wet and wild in 'Forza Horizon 4' James Bond trailer
Tue, Sep 18 2018It only makes sense. When the official trailer for Forza Horizon 4 ( FH4) first debuted at E3, details showed the game is set in Britain. Those who were ahead of the curve might have recognized this as a foreshadowing of sorts. Celebrating the launch of FH4's XBOX One and Windows 10 demo on Sept. 12, Playground Games announced that the next version of the beloved racing simulator will launch with an available Best of Bond pack that includes many of James Bond's storied rides. As expected, the list is heavy on the Aston Martin, but there are plenty of other goodies, too. Included in the 10-car pack are the 1964 Aston Martin DB5, a 1969 Aston Martin DBS, a 1986 Aston Martin V8, a 2008 Aston Martin DBS, a 2015 Aston Martin DB10, a 1974 AMC Hornet X Hatchback, a 1977 Lotus Esprit S1, a 1981 Citroen 2CV6, a 1999 BMW Z8, and a 2010 Jaguar C-X75. If you can name every movie that all of these vehicles are from, pat yourself on the back and grab a martini. View 15 Photos Microsoft is rewarding those who are all-in on FH4. The Best of Bond pack will come with the Ultimate Edition of the game that is allowed an early play date, starting Sept. 28. For those who haven't fully committed, the Best of Bond pack will be available as an add-on for purchase when the game launches globally on Oct. 2. The action-packed trailer shows many of the vehicles transforming or busting out tricks they're known for from the films, including the Lotus emerging from the sea. Although players will not be able to drive any vehicles under water (that we know of), several of the gadgets will make it into the game and will be viewable during Forzavista mode. The '64 DB5 has many of its features, such as the bumper rams and revolving license plate, while the Lotus will have an available body kit, fins and all. The Bond pack also comes with a few features irrelevant to the cars, including two Bond outfits and six "quick chat" phrases that can be used during multiplayer. The pack adds to an already impressive catalogue of vehicles that includes more than 450 different rides. Available now to pre-order, the FH4 Ultimate Edition is priced at $99.99, the Deluxe Edition is $79.99, while the base game is $59.99. For those who love Bond but don't own a gaming system, don't forget about the recently announced DB5 Lego kit.
Jaguar Land Rover opens first overseas factory in China
Wed, 22 Oct 2014Anyone who's a car fan knows that Jaguar and Land Rover cars and trucks all come from the UK. And while we don't doubt that will remain true for the most part, it won't be an absolute truth for long, as the British automaker has just opened its first factory overseas.
Its new plant in Changshu, China, is the result of a $1.8-billion joint venture between JLR and local automaker Chery. It covers some 4.3-million square feet and will, once at peak capacity, produce 130,000 units specifically for the Chinese market, where JLR sells over 100,000 vehicles each year to make it the company's single largest market worldwide.
Production at what's officially known as the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company will start with the Evoque, of which one in five globally are currently sold in China. Production will eventually encompass three models. We already know that the Discovery Sport will be next, but the third model line has yet to be announced. JLR has confirmed, however, that the Changshu plant will produce unique models and derivatives specifically for the Chinese market, so we wouldn't be surprised to see a long-wheelbase version of the forthcoming XE or next-generation XF assembled there to satisfy local tastes.
More Jaguar F-Pace details revealed [w/video]
Thu, Aug 27 2015The Jaguar F-Pace will make its full debut on September 15 at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. But for folks like us that want every detail about the compact crossover ahead of time, Jaguar is continuing the ongoing tease. This time, the company puts the emphasis on the CUV's suspension development and includes a video to prove that it works. The F-Pace is promising to be quite a crisp handler with a double-wishbone layout for the front suspension and an integral link setup at the rear. Cornering is further enhanced by an all-wheel-drive system that features torque vectoring adapted from the F-Type. Stopping shouldn't be an issue either because the brakes are also based on the units from the sports car. In addition, the company is making the lofty promise that crossover's electric power-assisted power steering offers "greater feedback and control than hydraulic systems." Production of the crossover should get underway at the Solihull, UK, factory soon because the F-Pace hits the market in 2016. The powertrain range is expected to include the new Ingenium four-cylinder engine family and the brand's fantastic sounding, supercharged V6. All the details should be officially revealed in Frankfurt, though. Until then, give the F-Pace a listen in the clip below. This content is hosted by a third party.
