Here's your chance to own a piece of US History - CIA Agent Valerie Plame and her husband Ambassador Joe Wilson's 1996 Jaguar XJS 6 cylinder convertible. Vanity Fair photographed the pair in this very car for their iconic cover story on them (it still has Joe's San Onofre Surfing Club license plate frame on it). I am the third owner and have every service record.

A few items of note:

The car has 57,000 original miles. However, the odometer stopped rolling about a year ago (Jag gremlins). Not sure what happened but it literally just stopped. Since then I have put approximately 300 miles on the car. I recently had the car serviced (see attached records) and they've got it working again but it is now is at 10 miles. The odometer has NOT turned over 100,000 miles and I have the service records to prove this. If you're looking for a fabulous Jag with great historic provenance, this should not matter.

Addtionally, I have recently spent over $5,600 overhauling the engine (2 new cylinder coils, head gasket, alternator, hoses, transmisson lines, oil pan, etc) and the car runs like a rocket - better than it ever did. I also put brand new Michelin tyres on it last year and have driven 200 miles on them (that cost $2000). So this car is actually worth far more than the listing price.

The car runs perfectly and everything in the car works perfectly. There are, however, a few cosmetic issues. The stitching on the driver's seat has come undone (it was that way when I bought it from Joe Wilson). I never got around to repairing it but I did get a quote from a trimmer who said it could easily be patched for @$250 and it would be virtually undetectable.

The paint is in good condition - a few minor surface scratches that can be professionally buffed out by a good detailer. The only other item of note is the rear bumper. It has a few superficial rubs that can easily be touched up.

Top has minor, minor fraying on driver's side (does not detract from the car in any way). Comes with Tonneau, which is in MINT condition. I've spent a great deal of money making sure this car runs for 150k plus miles. So if you can overlook the minor issues mentioned, this is a wonderful car at a great price. As you know, the XJS is fast becoming a highly sought after collector car and this is a good investment as projections show the market for these vehicles will increase exponentially in coming years.

Please note:

The successful high bidder will submit a $1000.00 NON-REFUNDABLE payment deposit with PAYPAL within 24 hours of the close of the auction to secure the vehicle. I do not take PAYPAL for final payment or balance. I will accept U.S bank check, bank wire transfer or cash only in person for final payment no exceptions. Buyer agrees to pay remaining balance due within 7 days of the close of the auction. All financial transactions must be completed before delivery of the vehicle.

AS IS - NO Warranty.

Lightweight E-Type to show historic side of Jaguar Special Operations in Monterey

Mon, 11 Aug 2014

Jaguar has made a lot of great vehicles over the years, but as far as historians are concerned, it still very much lives in the shadow of the original E-Type, small as it was. In its image, Jaguar has made two generations of XK and the new F-Type, but what we have here is the most faithful continuation of the E-Type heritage yet.
Alongside the Range Rover Sport SVR and the F-Type Project 7 (making its US debut), Jaguar Land Rover and its new Special Operations division will roll into Pebble Beach this year with the continuation Lightweight E-Type. Of the 72,500 E-Types which Jaguar built between 1961 and 1975, only a dozen were Lightweight versions, and they remain the most coveted E-Types of all. It originally planned on building 18 examples, though, and five decades later, it's now committed to completing that original production run in faithful detail.
The Lightweight E-Type was based on the standard roadster and was homologated as such, just with some key upgrades to make it lighter and faster. The biggest change, of course, was the lightweight aluminum bodywork that cut 205 pounds off the curb weight. To replicate it, Jaguar took the last example (the only one made in 1964 after the original eleven were made in '63), scanned half its body surface, mirrored it to ensure symmetry and set about reproducing it with the same standard of materials available in the Sixties (and resisting the urge to go with more modern grades of aluminum). 75 percent of the 230 components are made in-house, with the largest stampings outsourced and built on machinery built to Jaguar's specifications off-site.

Jaguar recalls 1,500 XJ sedans over brake issues

Thu, Dec 18 2014

A problem with the hydraulic brakes on the flagship XJ sedan has prompted Jaguar to issue a recall. The issue, as publicized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the notice you can read below, revolves around the brake line junctions underneath the affected vehicles, which may leak fluid, thereby reducing the effectiveness of the braking system. The problem only affects an estimated 1,571 units from the 2014 and 2015 model years, manufactured between February 6 and July 23, 2014. Owners of those affected units are being notified to bring their vehicles in to their local Jaguar dealers to have the brake line junctions inspected and tightened. This issue appears to be unrelated to Jaguar's recent recall of several model lines, the XJ included, over a problem with the power steering system. RECALL Subject : Incorrect Torque of Brake Pipe Unions Report Receipt Date: NOV 19, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V741000 Component(s): SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,571 Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC SUMMARY: Jaguar Land Rover North America (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jaguar XJ vehicles manufactured February 6, 2014, to July 23, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the brake line junctions under the vehicle may leak brake fluid. CONSEQUENCE: A brake fluid leak may reduce the vehicle's braking ability, requiring additional distance to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake line junctions, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on January 16, 2015. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J048. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Jaguar Land Rover says half its models will be hybrids or all-electric by 2020

Tue, Nov 22 2016

Neither Jaguar nor Land Rover has ever been mistaken for big-time green-car brands, but their parent company is trying to change that. Jaguar Land Rover looks to have as many as half of its models be of the hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or battery-electric variety by 2020, CEO Ralf Speth said at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week. Speth made the announcement while showing off the I-Pace concept compact crossover. The green-car expansion would mark a natural extension of Jaguar Land Rover's decision last year to double the headcount in its advanced-engineering department. As for the five-seat I-Pace, that model will be Jaguar Land Rover's first production electric vehicle when it starts sales in 2018. The car will have a 90-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that will deliver a single-charge range of about 220 miles. Boasting more than 400 horsepower, the car will also be able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about four seconds. What's also notable is that Jaguar says the model has been designed to be an electric vehicle from the ground up, and hasn't been converted from the platform of an existing model. Of course, Jaguar late last year said it would enter a team in the FIA Formula E electric-vehicle open-wheel racing circuit, so the British badge has made recent noise about upping its green-car quotient. As for the I-Pace, the automaker hasn't revealed pricing on the model, but it's safe to say that it will be quite high. Check out a three-minute video of Speth's presentation here. Related Video:
