1988 Jaguar Xjs European Right Hand Drive Convertible 77,000 Miles Well Serviced on 2040-cars
North Charleston, South Carolina, United States
About two weeks ago I was looking at the run list for the auction here in Chas and I noticed XJS in the Jag section. Normally I roll right past those cars because I generally can find them at all times without trying and did'nt really happen to need one currently, But I for some reason clicked on the photos area and sure enough I about jumped out of my seat when I realized it was a right hand drive european model through and through. I did'nt sleep all to well because I was up a good bit of the night gathering as much info as I could about the market for one of these and realized there isnt anything to base them on here in the U.S. I couldnt find one for sale and ebay hadnt had any in the completed listings section EVER. I got to the auction early and paid up just to have the car before it even ran through. Might could have purchased it a little cheaper if I waited but I didnt want to miss it if I was in a different lane when it went through so I just bought it. I keep Ferraris, Austin Mini's, Lots of Corvettes and classics (I even have a new 14 Vette) and main stream cars here at my store to pay the bills but I am truly a car guy in the car business. I was so excited I actually did'nt buy any thing on my list but this car. I got her back to the store put her in my shop and spent a week going throughout the car and getting it ready for the new owner. What i have found was the car has never even had a U.S. tag on the rear .. my tag is kinda on there but not really correctly. The car came to a Jag store here in Charleston and over a 5 months period they got a title. The title actually says 1983 because the 10th digit is a D. In Europe that isnt the case from what i have found. I and a fella from Coventry have determined the car to be an 88 and here is why. I have the original paperwork from the selling dealer in London. In service date is late 1988. Which did'nt tell me enough. 147591 is the last six of the vin which puts it as a 88.. Then the quarter panels still have a portion of the Jaguar coupe before it was a convertible so I know its not a Hess and Eisenhart car., It has cell phone from jag as well as anti lock brakes and the information bar in the middle of the dash. And the color code is for Silver birch metallic 87- 89 colors. All of these items mean it can't be an 83 and the vin reassures me of it. The title is a S.C. title with 1983 on it and DMV is the one who inspected it and gave it a U.S. title.
As for the car overall it drives out very well and feels great on any road, The car doesnt wander and it handles bumps with ease. The car is very smooth with out any type of rattles whether the power top is up or down. A.C. is cold and the heat works well. The cruise and all power options works as they should. Even the factory radio still works! This car cranks on a dime and I have sniffed it for the common intake leaks and haven't found any. Tires are rather new Pirelli old stock tires. Older but new tire correct for the vehicle. No dry rot any where and they are smooth on the highway. The car was repainted some years back and it seems to have been a very high quality job especially since you can tell the car was dissembled. No overspay and all rubber is free of extra paint from. No damage seems to have happened to the vehicle it just may have needed a refreshing. All of the wood is near perfect and the only flaking of the clear polyurethane is around a few spots by the outside A.C vents. The seats are in excellent shape with the the left side/passenger seat showing some thread separation.. All of the glass is perfect and all windows work as they should. All of the rubber throughout the entire car is in great shape as well. Dash is perfect and door panels are flawless. The top is in excellent condition and the only flaw is on both sides there is a leather patch that looks to me to be a wear spot they were protecting from rubbing through. It actually looks worse in photos than in person. Wheels have zero curbrash on them and they are in excellent shape. I was under the car when I got it and it seems to have new tie rods, steering rack, high and low pressure lines as well as a few other new lines and hoses to the brakes. Car had very little seepage for an XJS but there was some there. It has been in my shop for a week and nothing has dripped.
I would happily drive this car for show or cruising back and forth to work, I feel the car is that reliable and that whoever had it before me really cared about it. The car will come with all service and warranty work performed on it at Grange Imports in London as well as the Service contract that was issued in 1993 at the same store and all factory manuals and tool kits. From what i can tell it is a one owner vehicle showing 77,000 miles. I checked with the folks at Coventry and they said there are plenty of cars new in Europe using miles I thought they would be Kilometers.. The paper work checking of service work and maintenence is checked off in the miles box.
Not quite sure what the car is worth I just hope that someone will be as happy to see something as unique as this like I was. I am not advertising the car anywhere else currently, It is only for sale on Ebay. I hate when folks do an auction only to sell it in their driveway for less than we watchers would have bid it up to. I have shippers that can handle this car going anywhere in the world so if you need help or have questions please just ask. Good luck and please call if you have questions.. Chris 1 843 568 0547

Jaguar C-X17 Concept teased before Frankfurt
Sun, 01 Sep 2013Just ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show, which begins September 10, Jaguar is teasing the reveal of a design study to introduce its new advanced vehicle architecture. Dubbed the C-X17, the mysterious concept "illustrates the diversity of vehicles that could be produced using this architecture, which underpins the innovative future of the Jaguar brand."
While it's not entirely clear what this architecture involves or what type of vehicle the C-X17 may be, this reveal is reminiscent of Jaguar's decision to unveil the C-X16 concept, a hybrid electric sports car, in Frankfurt in 2011. From the looks of the teaser image Jaguar released (click above to enlarge), we're guessing the C-X17 will be something between a low-slung crossover and a sporty wagon. But we won't have to wait too long to find out - Jaguar is streaming the live pre-show reveal to invited guests on its Facebook page on Monday, Sept. 9.
In addition to the C-X17, Jaguar be showing off the performance-oriented XJR and XFR-S, and, of course, the F-Type convertible. Scroll down for the official press release.
Jaguar lets first outsiders drive new F-Type
Mon, 17 Dec 2012What do you do when you're an automaker with an all-new and brand-defining sports car, one of them with a supercharged V8 cranking out 495 horsepower? You let proven race drivers test them out on track and on the road.
And what do you do if you're Jaguar and you're in that situation? Why, naturally, you make a video of it. That's how we get footage of racers Martin Brundle, Justin Bell and Christian Danner being choppered into the UK's Snetterton track to test the V6-equipped Jaguar F-Type S prototype. Then when they're finished with kerb-lined apexes, they take the V8 S prototype out onto the roads to run it through hedge-lined apexes.
According to one of them, "very fast, very nimble, great engine" is what will soon be headed our way. Check it out in the video below.
Jaguar Buys World's Largest Collection Of British Classic Cars

Jaguar's Special Operations division announced today it has bought the world's largest collection of classic British cars. The 543 cars had belonged to wealthy dental entrepreneur Dr. James Hull, who sold the entire collection to the British automaker for $170 million dollars. Jaguar scored 130 of its own vehicles in the lot, including a XK, SS, C, D and E-types, XJ as well as a few rare Land Rovers, according to Road & Track. The division that bought the cars is not only responsible for the heritage museum, but also for special projects. Special Operations finished the 18-car run of the lightweight E-types, albeit 50 years late. Jaguar plans to use the cars as promotional pieces to highlight the history of the brand, according to Cars UK. Related Gallery Retro Features Car Shoppers Still Want
