History: Jaguar was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company by Sir William Lyons in 1922, originally making motorcycle sidecars. The name was changed to Jaguar after World War II when they started producing automobiles and has had several owners since. My car was built in 1984 under British Leyland ownership. Every Jaguar from the E Type of yesterday to the XK's of today has one thing in common: passion! My Jaguar has been sitting in a garage untouched for five years and now with my wife pregnant with twins I am selling off some of my projects.
My Auction: I will attempt to describe this fine automobile to the best of my ability. All used cars have flaws especially a 29 year old one so please be realistic in your expectations. I will point out anything that stands out as I believe anyone who doesn't isn't being thorough with their auction. Please ask all questions BEFORE you bid. Please view the link to all of the additional pictures I have posted on flickr.com BEFORE you bid, some of them have captions and I want you to know exactly what you are getting. Please read my entire auction carefully BEFORE you bid. Also please be respectful of my auction, these cost real money that I have to work hard for just like you do. I am not going to cancel your bid because you now have some excuse why you can't follow through with the transaction or play any of the other games professional Ebayers want to play. Please make sure you have to money in place BEFORE you bid and you have asked your significant other or whoever else you need permission from to buy a car BEFORE you bid. Thanks and good luck!
Link to over 100 more pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/95546773@N07/ If you click on the picture you can make it larger, next click on the magnifying glass icon at the top of the picture, this makes it even larger, next click on "view all sizes" on the upper right and you can supersize the image. They come out much better then they do on Ebay and you can really get a feeling for the condition of the car. If Ebay disables the link simply cut and paste it to your browser.
Exterior Condition: This XJS is simply stunning in black over burgundy. This is by far the best color combination this car comes in. It just looks so rich. It has a "Leaper" hood ornament added to the front instead of the flat "Growler" which I just love. The paint on this car is as smooth as glass and it shines like a mirror. The car was repainted in 2005 and while it is not a $10,000 paint job it still looks great with a deep shine. At that time there was also some rust repair done to the car mostly towards the bottom. There is evidence of filler being used there and the finish is not perfectly smooth in some areas but the layman would not notice. There is some rust that has appeared since. The two notable areas are (shown in photos) above the drivers side rear bumper there are bubbles and there is a hole at the very bottom of the rocker behind the drivers side front tire. There are some rust bumbles scattered on the body in other areas but they are all minor. There is also some rust (shown in photos) in the floor boards of the car that you should fix before you drive it. They are located in the front section of both the drivers and passengers foot wells. Also there are small rust holes in the rear driver and rear passenger footwells towards the back where the back seat passengers feet would go. There is solid metal all around these areas and you should be able to weld patch in some sheetmetal. These are the common rust areas in all these old Jaguars. There is no rust in the trunk. All of the window glass is good and free of chips and cracks. This car has a factory sunroof (that works well) which is very rare for the coupes. The plastic front spoiler is missing as well as the metal grill that goes above it under the front bumper. There are no dents in the car and really no dings or scratches worth mentioning. There are a few paint chips here and there. All of the wheels are in great shape with shiny paint. Overall this car looks fabulous as it stands, I would describe it as a very nice driver but by no means a flawless show car.. When people see this car they go nuts, if you don't like attention this car is not for you.
Interior Condition: The inside of these XJS's is just so classy. I love the burgundy leather with the light wood. Overall the interior is in pretty good shape. The dashboard has no cracks. The two things that need attention is the seats and headliner. The front seats are coming undone from some of the stitching at the seams. Maybe they can be restitched or you can just get new seat covers. The rear seats look excellent, the only area the stitching in coming undone is right at the top by the back window. The headliner is coming unglued. The interior of the car is really clean otherwise and in nice shape. Everthing is present other then the radio and the wires have been cut. I have the radio but no faceplate for it.
Mechanically: My Jaguar runs, drives, and stops. It has been sitting in a garage for 5 years. To my amazement I put a new battery in it and it started. As you can imagine with 5 year old gas it is not running at it's best. The engine sounds great without any ticks or knocks. That old gas has to be drained out of there. The car sometimes takes a few tries to get started and I am sure the old gas is fouling the plugs, when you drive it and really give it some gas it doesn't make full power but when you just drive normally it feels really good. After you drain the old gas you can see how it runs but I would probably give it a full tune up with new plugs, wires, fuel filter etc.. When you rev it up in park it sounds awesome and revs right up quickly and smoothly. After it has warmed up it also starts back up right away with no problem. I test drove the car for about a mile around my neighborhood. The problem with the car is that when it gets to about 20-25 M.P.H. it shakes like crazy. The reason for this is that it needs new rear subframe bushings. The old ones are broken and appear to have either been installed incorrectly in the first place or have shifted knocking the rear end out of alignment. All of the rubber in the front suspension looks new and I do have a receipt from when it was done in 2005. The valve cover gaskets leak a little oil and since the car hasn't been driven in a while there is some smoke as the oil burns off of the manifolds. This is going away the more I run the car. The leak is so minor it probably won't smoke if it is driven often. As mentioned the engine does sound good but there is a hole in the exhaust so it is a little loud but not terrible. The brakes seemed to work fine but I did detect some pulsation. Either the front rotors are warped or I was feeling the rear subframe bushing issue. I would still check the brakes and grease the caliper pins while I was there. It had a new radiator put in in 2006 and some spark plugs. It has a brand new battery. There are some wiring looms under the hood where the insulation is drying out so those should be rewrapped. It leaks trans fluid and power steering fluid. Fix these issues and you will have yourself a nice running car that is great looking for not a lot of money. Nothing here is difficult or expensive for the do-it-yourselfer. Chances are you might find a couple other minor things that are wrong with this car that I don't know about when you really get into it or drive it at faster speeds. I just want to be honest that it is a project car.
Additional Notes:
-My Jaguar is sold AS-IS with no warranty expressed or implied.
-I have a clean and clear Illinois title in my name.
-I have 2 keys for the car.
-The date was not set on my camera when I took the pictures but they were all taken today.
-I live about 30 minutes southwest of Chicago. Although this car runs and drives you can't drive it home the way it is with the suspension. It will drive up onto a car hauler if you want to tow it behind your vehicle or if you are having it shipped I will assist your shipper with loading it.
-Please don't contact me asking me the reserve price. It is unfair to other bidders. The car is priced to sell so if you want it get in the game and bid and have some fun. That is what driving a Jaguar XJS is all about: FUN FUN FUN! Also there is no "buy it now" price, I am letting the auction run it's coarse.
-You are more then welcome to come inspect the Jaguar BEFORE you bid and bring your mechanic because I am not one.
-By bidding on my Jaguar you are entering into a contract to purchase an automobile, this is not the first right of refusal.
-I require a $200 deposit via Paypal within 48 hours of auction close. You can pay the balance in one of two ways within 7 days. If you are picking up the car you can pay me CASH in person. This means you will be counting out greenbacks and I will be handing you the title and the keys. If you are having the car shipped you can pay with a bank to bank wire transfer. I will not accept any checks of any kind. You CANNOT pay the entire amount with Paypal, that is only for the deposit.
-If you have zero or negative feedback please contact me BEFORE you bid or I will be forced to cancel your bid. Also if you have good feedback but have not had any feedback in the last year please contact me BEFORE you bid.
-If you have any questions about the car please feel free to e-mail me or call me at 630-334-6974, I will be happy to talk to you about the car. My name is Joe.
-With a little work you could be styling and smiling in this big Roger Moorish coupe in no time! Good luck bidding!!!

Jaguar recalls 1,500 XJ sedans over brake issues
Thu, Dec 18 2014A problem with the hydraulic brakes on the flagship XJ sedan has prompted Jaguar to issue a recall. The issue, as publicized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the notice you can read below, revolves around the brake line junctions underneath the affected vehicles, which may leak fluid, thereby reducing the effectiveness of the braking system. The problem only affects an estimated 1,571 units from the 2014 and 2015 model years, manufactured between February 6 and July 23, 2014. Owners of those affected units are being notified to bring their vehicles in to their local Jaguar dealers to have the brake line junctions inspected and tightened. This issue appears to be unrelated to Jaguar's recent recall of several model lines, the XJ included, over a problem with the power steering system. RECALL Subject : Incorrect Torque of Brake Pipe Unions Report Receipt Date: NOV 19, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V741000 Component(s): SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,571 Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC SUMMARY: Jaguar Land Rover North America (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jaguar XJ vehicles manufactured February 6, 2014, to July 23, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the brake line junctions under the vehicle may leak brake fluid. CONSEQUENCE: A brake fluid leak may reduce the vehicle's braking ability, requiring additional distance to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake line junctions, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on January 16, 2015. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J048. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
2023 J.D. Power APEAL Study shows new-car customer satisfaction scores slip
Thu, Jul 20 2023J.D. Power survey results have been slightly up but mostly down for automakers this year, literally. In February, the 2023 Vehicle Dependability Study showed an overall decline compared the 2022 a month before the Customer Service Index Study did the same. The trend reversed in June with a better overall score on the 2023 U.S. Electric Vehicle Consideration Study than in 2022, then declined again the same month on with a lower overall score on the 2023 Initial Quality Study. The declines continue with the 2023 J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, overall satisfaction among the 84,555 respondents down two points overall compared to 2022, to 845 out of 1,000 points. Because last year's score dropped compared to 2021, this year marks the first consecutive decline in the study's 28-year history. The study tries to "[measure] owners' emotional attachment and level of excitement with new vehicle" after 90 days of ownership by asking new owners to rate 37 attributes in 10 areas around the vehicle, such as the feeling they get when they hit the accelerator. Satisfaction with nine of the attributes is down this year versus last, fuel economy the only segment to show better results with 15 points more satisfaction. Styling and infotainment are big drags on satisfaction. Responses to new car exterior looks tallied 888 points, down from 894 last year, the largest drop in this year's study. On the digital side, less than half of those surveyed this year said they prefer using a manufacturer's built-in infotainment. From 70% of respondents in 2020 preferring to use a manufacturer's in-house software to play audio instead of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, that's 56% in 2023. Going all-in on Google appears to have the best effect. J.D. Power said that vehicles with both Google's Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) and Google Automotive Services (GAS) "score higher in the infotainment category than those with no AAOS whatsoever. AAOS without GAS receives the lowest scores for infotainment of the three categories."Â Frank Hanley, senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power, said, "Despite the technology and design innovations that manufacturers put into new vehicles, owners are lukewarm about them. While innovations like charging pads, vehicle apps and advanced audio features should enhance an owner’s experience, this is not the case when problems are experienced.
Jaguar releases C-X75 concept build story
Thu, 27 Jun 2013If you want to know what was going through the minds of decisionmakers at Jaguar when the company decided to build the batty C-X75 Concept, look no further than the quick video after the jump. Jaguar set about building a car with the performance of a Bugatti Veyron, the electric range of a Chevrolet Volt and the emissions of a Toyota Prius, and they turned to a legendary engineering firm to help make it happen. Williams, the same crew behind Williams F1, helped Jaguar stitch the concept car together, and the result is unlike anything we've seen before.
The twin-charged 1.6-liter four-cylinder mounted amidship is paired with an electric motor at each wheel for a combined output of over 850 horsepower. And, since the whole chassis is hewn from carbon fiber, a production version would've been light enough to give machines like the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari a run for their money. Shame they apparently couldn't make the business case work. Watch the concept build story in the video below for yourself.
