This is a survivor 1976 XJ6C.  Not many made, and even fewer remain.  It is original, to my knowledge.  I acquired it a year or so ago, with the intent to restore it, but need to let it go.  It was titled in MA, but wears a CA AAA club sticker.  I think it was originally a California car.  I really don't know any history on the car otherwise.  It was sold to me by a Jaguar mechanic in the Boston area.  I can provide contact info as needed.  The car is silver, with a red interior.  It has been repainted.  The vinyl top has been removed, and repainted to match the car.  The body has paint chips, a few door and body dings, and some rough edges where the front and rear windsheilds meet the body.  It has been repainted at some point, and really needs a repaint to get the body back to 100%.  I do not know of any rust in the doors or body panels, but have not really taken the car apart to look.  The floorpans have rust spots in them.  Each side has been repaired at some point, but need to be replaced.  I will include replacement floorpans with the car.  I bought them to replace the pans when I had the car repainted.  The interior has the original Series II red leather back seat and panels, and the majority of the ineterior is original to the car.  The front seats are Series III leather.  The interior door handles and kick panels are from the same Series III car.  They are of a different shade of red than the original, and show a subtle color difference.  I wasn't sure which shade I was going with when I planned to redo the interior.  The leather is cracked, and needs repairing or replacing.  The headliner is intact, but sags.  The visors need to be redone.  The carpet is the original red, with newer mats, but needs to be replaced.  The glass is all good.  The power windows all work.  The dash has some aging of the wood, with cracking of the clearcoat, but is in good shape.  The gauges all work, but sometimes will clip out.  I know this is a Lucas electrical issue.  I haven't taken the time to chase it down.  Likewise the highbeams, which don't want to work.  The PO replaced the horn switch with an aftermarket part.  I do not use the horn, and disabled it.  The radio is a later 4 speaker cassette unit, and works.  The climate control and AC work.  The right front turn signal lamp is out.  Otherwise all the lights work.  The engine is the straight 6 DOHC 4.2L with twin Strombergs.  It runs fine, but does have some run-on after the ignition is turned off, probably from carbon build-up.  I have been putting fuel treatment in the tanks to try to get the deposits off the pistons and valves.  The gas tanks are OK, and the fuel pumps and transfer switch work.  The transmission shifts as it should, if a bit rough, and the brakes stop as they should. I do drive the car at highway speeds for prolonged periods during my commutes with no problems whatsoever.  It is not a daily driver, more an occasional car, but I try to drive it as often as I can, because it is an easy car to drive.  The suspension has that silky Jaguar independent suspension ride.  It sits low, and just kind of hunkers down in the turns.  The car is substantial, and drives that way.  I do not know of any problems with the suspension.  This car is a great candidate for a full restoration.  It can be driven and enjoyed as it is, and restored as the owner wishes.  It can be a template for a restomod.  It gets looks now, and could be a show stopper with the silver exterior and red interior finished out.  This would be a great winter project for the right owner.  I have tried to describe the vehicle as honestly as possible.  Prospective buyers are encouraged to ask questions before they bid.  I will answer them as honestly as I can.  The car is sold as is, with no warranty.  Pickup or shipping is the buyer's responsibility.  I will work with the buyer regarding transport.  Please do not bid on the car if you do not intend to buy it.  Winning bidder is required to post a nonrefundable $500.00 deposit to PayPal within 24 hrs of auction close, and to pay the balance of the sale price by cash or Cashiers Check from a US bank within 5 business days after auction close. Thank you for looking, and happy bidding.

Jaguar axes supercar plans, focuses on luxury EVs

Tue, Jul 26 2016

Jaguar is abandoning plans to replace the XK coupe and convertible and won't build a production variant of the C-X75 supercar, according to Automobile Magazine. Previous reports indicated that Jaguar could revive the XK line as a grand tourer, but the automaker has turned toward building two electric vehicles (EV). One would be a replacement for the XJ sedan and the other a premium SUV. The large luxury EV, codenamed X590, is reported to be a four-door coupe with a rear hatch that signifies a drastic shift in strategy by Jaguar. The vehicle is said to be a compromise between Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth and Jaguar design chief Ian Callum. According to the report, the X590 will utilize a new electronic architecture that can be adapted to accommodate the software for autonomous driving capability that was developed under former BMW engineer Wolfgang Ziebart. Jaguar looks to take on the Tesla Model S and the slew of electric vehicles from Germany with the X590. While Jaguar hopes the EV will allow the automaker to expand to a new segment, it will continue to sell the current XJ alongside the X590. Meanwhile, an unnamed source claims Jaguar will put an electric SUV on the road shortly after the X590 in 2019. Originally planned as a Range Rover, the ute is reported to have a modern look with a focus on aerodynamics. The SUV will be offered as a rear-wheel-drive model with one motor or an all-wheel-drive version with two motors. Both variants will have a choice of three battery packs based on range, performance, and charge time. Jaguar expects to put 20,000 to 30,000 units of the X590 on the road every year, while the SUV, which should be more affordable, will have a production rate between 30,000 and 50,000 units. With the electric and SUV segment continuing to grow, Jaguar is looking to capitalize with two new vehicles that could set the tone for its future. Related Video:

Land Rover will downsize with a pair of hybridized turbodiesel sixes

Thu, Mar 26 2020

Europe's automotive industry has ground to a halt, but the strict emissions regulations that went into effect in early 2020 are still looming on the horizon. Land Rover is preparing to launch a pair of hybridized turbodiesel six-cylinder engines in a bid to comply with the regulations and avoid paying huge fines, according to a recent report. British magazine Autocar learned Land Rover has applied the mild hybrid technology already offered on the Evoque and the Discovery Sport, its two smallest models, to a 3.0-liter straight-six to obtain 300 horsepower. The company will also release a more powerful version of the six rated at about 350 horses. The former will be available on HSE, HSE Dynamic and Autobiography Dynamic variants of the Range Rover Sport, while the latter will be added to upmarket models like the HST. The full-size Range Rover (pictured) will get them, too. The sixes represent a two-pronged approach to replacing the 4.4-liter turbodiesel V8 available in Europe, among other markets. It delivers 335 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque, and it sends the Range Rover from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds while giving it a 7,700-pound towing capacity. These figures are hard to argue against, but it's an older engine that's increasing the company's fleet-wide average emissions output, so it has to go. The mild hybrid system won't power either Range Rover on electricity alone, but it will make them cleaner and more efficient; losing a pair of cylinders will help in both areas, too. Although Land Rover hasn't confirmed plans to ax the V8 or launch a hybridized six, suppliers have started publishing information about the powertrain, so its launch is believed to be around the corner. Time will tell whether it will appear on the current-generation models or their replacements, which are undergoing shakedown testing globally and due out in the coming months. Sister company Jaguar will use the mild hybrid technology, too. The six-cylinder will find its way into the XF and the F-Pace, which are both expected to receive comprehensive updates before the end of 2020. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Check out Harry Metcalfe's 1978 Jaguar XJ 5.3 V12 Coupe

Fri, Feb 6 2015

Jaguar may have built its business producing luxury sedans, but it also made some superb coupes over the years, from the XK120 through the E-Type, XJS and XJ220 to today's F-Type. The automaker has largely steered clear of turning its four-door models into two-doors, but there was a time when it did exactly that. And Harry Metcalfe, former editor of the British car magazine Evo, just happens to have one in his garage. Based on the Series II XJ sedan, the XJ Coupe was long and elegant – something along the lines of what you might see today in the form of the Mercedes S-Class Coupe, but smaller and built the better part of four decades ago. With only around 10,000 of them made, the pillar-less XJ-C was much rarer than the more iconic E-Type, and even fewer of them packed the 5.3-liter fuel-injected V12 engine. That makes the former Evo editor's ride a rather scarce one indeed, and well worth checking out in his latest video clip.
