Jaguar shows off production XE body in camo

Jaguar turned to Twitter and Facebook to reveal the production form of its coming XE sedan that we'll see for real at the Paris Motor Show. This is the first of a series of show-offs, Jaguar planning to wrap the bodywork in see-through camo that shows off the aluminum monocoque and other internals the company will use to promote the XE over its German rivals. That aluminum structure, which Jaguar calls iQ[Al], will also be used for other Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles.
Underneath that long bonnet and ahead of that terribly short trunk will come a series of Ingenium engines, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engines in diesel and petrol forms that will come in a variety of power options, and the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that can also be found in the F-Type. On a chilly gray night in Germany, Jaguar officially leapt into the crossover segment. But it also reminded everyone its brand of grocery-getter will be anything but conventional. The 2017 F-Pace, which will launch next spring in the United States, debuted Monday evening at a glitzy event before the Frankfurt Motor Show. Rather than simply tear the cover off the car (you can watch that below), Jaguar sent a specially-prepped F-Pace blasting up a 63-foot-tall loop, setting a Guinness World Record in the process. Driven by British stunt driver Terry Grant, Jaguar said the F-Pace stood up against 6.5 Gs of gravity during the display. The stunt was meant to illustrate the F-Pace's poise, agility, and athletic nature. In fact, Jaguar is calling the vehicle the "ultimate practical sports car," instead of dwelling on the fact it's an SUV. Based on Jaguar's lightweight aluminum architecture, the F-Pace will arrive in America next year with two V6 engines rated at 340 horsepower or 380 hp. A new 2.0-liter diesel engine will join the lineup next fall, and serve as the entry-level model. It starts at $41,985. Related Video:

Jaguar with claws: 592-hp XE SV Project 8 Collector's Edition

A few years ago, and to much fanfare, Jaguar launched the F-Type Project 7. It was Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) unit's first Collector's Edition car. It now has a successor – with four doors. Jaguar has announced the XE SV Project 8 Collector's Edition, which will get its official debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Project 8 is as a 592-horsepower sedan that the automaker is calling "the most extreme Jaguar ever." It's powered by a specially tuned version of the company's 5.0-liter V8 engine, which will make it Jaguar's most powerful vehicle ever put into production. It will be limited to just 300 examples hand-built at SVO's Technical Centre in Coventry. As for how much it'll set you back if you're lucky enough to get your hands on one, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director John Edwards says Project 8 "is conceived for enthusiasts and the most discerning collectors. The price for such an extreme performance sports car available in strictly limited numbers will reflect that." Engine tuning is just one of the upgrades to the Project 8, but, for now, Jaguar is remaining vague about other alterations to the XE. Edwards says the car "takes aerodynamics and performance engineering to another level," and there's no reason not to take him at his word. The British automaker says it'll let us know more about the car on June 28, just two days before its official introduction. For now, though, we can enjoy the teaser video from Jaguar, above, which shows the XE SV Project 8 in a particularly sporty camouflage wrapper testing on the Nurburgring.
