Having longed to own one of these beautiful and powerful Jaguars since they were introduced in 1961 to a stunned motoring world, I finally was able to purchase one requiring extensive work around five years ago. Of course, the selling line was "it only requires a little bodywork and the engine freeing up". Wrong! It actually required extensive bodywork and a full engine overhaul. Plus brakes, suspension, interior, clutch, driveline and so on and so forth. No problem I told myself. The price was okay and I am capable of undertaking this project as I have done with other vehicles over many years. Plus I have done mechanical work since I left high school in 1958. I did not consider that I would need facilities and specialist equipment to perform this rebuild.
However, I owned an E-type and that was all that really mattered, so "let work commence"
At present, my circumstances have changed and cannot see me completing this project. So reluctantly, it is for sale.
There is little work left to do to bring it back to roadworthy condition and it is frustrating for me to see all the hard work that I put into it and then unable to complete as planned.
The following work has been done:
New floor panels apart from a small section.
New inner and outer sills (rockers).
New boot (trunk) floor panel.
Lower rear quarter valances (below rear fenders).
Front and rear sill end plates.
Left and right hand bulk head sections repaired.
Rear fenders repaired.
Bonnet forward bottom hinge panel replaced with new (whole section).
Engine removed and overhauled. New standard pistons and rings installed.
All bearings replaced.
A fully refurbished cylinder head installed (old unit supplied with car in case required to keep car numbers matching).
New vitrous enamel exhaust manifolds installed.
Carburetters overhauled.
New expensive Stebro exhaust system installed.
Complete new clutch assembly and related hydraulic cylinders.
New shock absorbers and coil springs installed front and rear.
Steering components replaced or rebuilt.
Rear differential checked over after draining out old oil and cleaning. Rebuilt using new seals and gaskets.
Drive axles rebuilt.
Gearbox removed, internals cleaned and examined.Input and output bearings replaced along with seals and gaskets.
New brake discs (rotors) front and rear.
Brake calipers fully rebuilt care of Terry's Jaguar.
New brake lines.
New fuel lines.
Fuel pump replaced with an electronic unit from Burlen (SU).
New cooling hoses installed.
New heater stainless steel pipes linstalled (behind the bulkhead).
Heater assembly removed and checked. No issues found.
Cooling fans rebuilt.
Radiator removed and flushed.
Most gauges and switches replaced with new or new old stock including speedometer which is showing zero miles. The odometer reading is off the old gauge and miles shown cannot be verified.
New dash top.
New light units.
Bright work and chrome parts presentable (front and rear bumper over riders and "clamshells").
Interior is decent and new door panels and carpets come with the car. These are a lighter color than the Cinnamon but should look good.
Glass is good apart from the windshield which need replacing.
The doors and chrome glass apertures require final adjustment.

I have receipts for purchases in the region of $15,000.00 excluding paint and other consumable materials. Hundreds of hours of hard work put in.
The engine does not always fire up immediately but once running does not show any issues.Smoke free.It requires some fine tuning.I have driven the car out of the driveway several times. Clutch smooth and all gears working good. The car has not been road tested.Although the steering linkage and suspension have been overhauled some of the rubber boots show cracks.Probably due to inferior parts from less know supplier. Not a big or expensive repair.I have many pictures that were taken at various stages of the restoration.Any interested parties with questions can contact me and I will reply.
Please do not bid unless you have excellent feedback, you are 100% committed to buy and you have the necessary funds.A deposit of $500.00 is required within 48 hours of winning bid through PayPal. The balance must be paid fully before car is collected. Not PayPal but certified check, money order or personal check which must clear prior to collection.I can forward details of a transport company that is both reliable and has reasonable rates.
It is advisable to view the car prior to bidding if possible or ask specific questions. My location is in the greater Chicago area and within an hour of both main airports. I will assist in any way I can if at all possible
If you wish to bid from outside the USA please contact me.

Jaguar F-Pace leaps into crossover segment [UPDATE]

Mon, Sep 14 2015

UPDATE: Jaguar has issued a statement indicating that the F-Pace cargo volume specified in the original official press release, was incorrect. In short, the correct figure is 33.5 cubic-feet, not 23 cu-ft, and we've updated the text. Here's the statement: "The previous draft of the release we issued incorrectly identified cargo volume in the Jaguar F-PACE using a figure that was not calculated using the US Market standard SAE methodology. The correct specification for rear load space volume in the 2017 Jaguar F-PACE with the second row seats up is 33.5 cu.ft., not 22.95 cu.ft." It's been two years since Jaguar showed off the C-X17 concept crossover at the Frankfurt Motor Show, giving us a deep metallic blue taste of what the world would look like with a leaping-cat in it. Here we have the production result, the 2017 F-Pace, coming to dealerships in Spring 2016. It will be offered in four trims - Premium, Prestige, R-Sport, and S - with three engines. Two supercharged V6 engines come at launch, one with 340 horsepower, the second with 380 hp, both shifting through the same ZF eight-speed transmission from the sedan range. Some time after that a 2.0-liter Ingenium diesel will join the lineup, offering 180 hp and 317 lb-ft. To get in, the price for that eventual diesel is will be $40,9907, while the V6s start at $42,390 and $56,700. If you liked the look of the C-X17 then there's nothing to put you off the F-Pace. The illuminated intakes from the concept are gone and the fender vents have a slightly different graphic, but otherwise you'll find Waldo before you'll find significant exterior changes. The body is one third aluminum, tweaked with high-strength steel, magnesium, and composites creating torsional stiffness numbers that match the new XF. Wheels go from 18 inches to 22 inches, hung at the ends of a double-wishbone setup in front, an integral link suspension in back, and monotube dampers all around, over a wheelbase that's 113 inches. Short overhangs front and back that mean a maximal approach angle of 25.5 degrees, a max departure angle of 25.7-degrees. The standard instrument binnacle is two analogue dials flanking a TFT display, the upgraded unit is a 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster. It sounds like the interior trim will go as high up as you want it - something has to justify the $14,310 price difference between the V6 models - with "available leather" on the low end, aluminum mesh and satin grey ash at the other end.

Jaguar XE SVR to challenge M3, C63 with supercharged V8 power

Tue, Oct 14 2014

Jaguar has a healthy powertrain range lined up for its new XE, including an array of four-cylinder engines and a supercharged 3.0-liter six that will, for now, serve as the range-topping offering in the XE S. But Car and Driver claims to have it on good authority that an even more powerful eight-cylinder version is in the works, as well. According to C/D, the XE's engine bay has been designed to accommodate the company's ubiquitous 5.0-liter V8 engine, which in the larger XF is offered in several states of tune, including the XF Supercharged with 470 horsepower, the XFR with 510 hp and the flagship XFR-S with 550 hp. Just which version (or versions) would be offered in the XE remains to be seen, but even in its lowest-spec supercharged form, the 470-hp version would already be enough to challenge the 425-hp BMW M3 and the base 469-hp version of the new Mercedes-AMG C63. If Jaguar wants to take on the C63 S, however, it will need to shoehorn in one of the more powerful versions. In the end, Coventry's new Special Vehicle Operations division may opt to offer two versions, like it does with the XFR and XFR-S. Expect the top version, however much muscle it packs, to wear the British automaker's new SVR badge. It just may take a few years before it does so.

Ian Callum wanted to call Jaguar's crossover X-Type [w/poll]

Thu, Jan 15 2015

Jaguar raised some eyebrows when it announced that it would call its upcoming crossover F-Pace. But the British automaker didn't just pick the name out of a hat. Speaking with Auto Express, Jaguar's design director Ian Callum said the company entertained several possible nameplates for its first crossover, and that he personally advocated for resurrecting the name X-Type. The nameplate was, of course, previously used on the marque's entry-level sedan – the predecessor to the upcoming XE that was based on the front-drive platform of the Ford Mondeo and which was also offered with all-wheel drive. The connection with that much-maligned model is reportedly ultimately what dissuaded the company's marketing gurus from using the nameplate again, even if it might have been more suitable. Another nameplate Coventry reportedly considered was XQ, but the latter letter's use by rival Audi for its crossovers and by former sister company Aston Martin for its personalization range ruled the prospect out for the Leaping Cat marque. Auto Express notes a connection between the name F-Pace and Jaguar's 1960s ad campaign hailing its products as offering a combination of "Grace, Space and Pace." For his part, Callum didn't dismiss the possibility the slogan could could lead to additional models wearing similar nameplates like F-Grace or F-Space. What do you think – did Jaguar pick the right name for its first foray into the crossover market? Share your thoughts in Comments and cast your vote in our poll below.
