Exceptional 1970 E-type Jaguar on 2040-cars

Year:1970 Mileage:42650
Location:

Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States

Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States

This is a beautiful, low mileage, numbers matching XKE Series II 2+2 Coupe. Fitted with the desirable 4-spd transmission and powered by the delightful 4.2L straight six. Factory options include: a/c and power steering.

History:
This coupe was built in January 1970, arrived in NYC in Feb. 1970. According to the previous owner, at some point after arriving in the USA, the car found its way to South America. It was then imported from Argentina back to the USA by a private collector in Ohio. (A dealer tag from Buenos Aires is still on the rear hatch). That owner had the car repainted in the same as original primrose yellow, replaced the headliner, and installed an Ansa (4-pipe) exhaust. It sounds great. The previous owner (who sold the coupe to me) purchased it from that collector and drove it sparingly during 14 yrs of ownership. The car has less than 43,000 original miles.

Service/Maintenance:

Service requirements during my ownership have been minimal. In addition to engine oil/filter and plugs: the a/c was re-charged and front brakes serviced about 3 yrs ago. In 2013, a new clutch slave cylinder was installed and a relay that controlled the engine cooling fans was replaced.  The rubber gasket for the window in the rear hatch was replaced. Headrest foam inserts are new. Battery is approx 3 yrs old.

Body:
The body on this car is remarkable. There is no evidence of rust or rust repair. All body panels are in excellent condition. There is one very small ding in the passenger door, and one very small "dimple" at the nose of the hood/bonnet. These are very difficult to see in a photo or even by standing next to the car. There is a very small paint chip near the upper edge of the rear hatch. Doors, hood and rear hatch all close with nice straight lines. Front and rear bumpers and all trim is in excellent condition.

Interior:
The black leather seats have a nice, age appropriate patina with slight wearing in the two front seats. Back seat is in very good condition. Overall condition of the interior is very good. The dash and door/sill panels are all in very good condition: no cracks, no tears. The Philips radio works fine, as does the electrically operated antenna. All switches and the clock are in working order, with the exception of the cigarette lighter. Heater works great. Seat belts, carpet and rear storage area panels are also in very good condition. Jaguar brand rubber floor mats on the front floor for passenger and driver side. The wood rimmed steering wheel is in excellent condition.

Drivetrain:
The 4.2L six cylinder starts every time with a little bit of choke applied. It sounds great. The 4-spd transmission and clutch work well together. The power steering also works well, and the car stays straight during braking. It is responsive and a joy to drive.

Wheels and Tires:
The coupe is fitted with a set of Avon Turbospeed tires, 205/70/R15. The chrome wire wheels with Jaguar knock-off hubs are also in very good condition. The spare is what I believe may be an original chrome wire wheel and Dunlop Sport tire.

Our local British car service shop states that this is "one of the nicest, unmolested Jaguars that they've had in for service."

This XKE is not a barn find. It is not a trailer queen. It is what I would consider an example of a very well cared for and appreciated coupe. Hagerty #2 value is $27,200. We have truly enjoyed owning this, our first classic Jaguar. It has been used primarily to take short drives through the countryside and for rides with our kids. It has been stored year round in our garage at home. It is time now for another very fortunate person to enjoy and be the caretaker of this great XKE.

Jaguar confirms 575-hp F-Type Project 7 for Goodwood debut

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Two days ago, Jaguar announced it had something special in store for the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend. Then yesterday images of that special creation, the F-Type Project 7, leaked out. And now, as promised, Coventry has released the full details on the ultimate F-Type to date. And its even better than we expected.
The production version of the concept revealed last year, the F-Type Project 7 celebrates the 60th anniversary of the D-Type by borrowing some of that legendary roadster's design cues, right down to the rear fin and British Racing Green livery with white racing stripes.
Of course the Project 7 is more than just a retro appearance package. The bespoke speedster packs a version of Jaguar's prolific 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with 575 horsepower - 25 more than the F-Type R Coupe - to make it the Leaping Cat marque's most powerful production car to date. Mated to Coventry's familiar eight-speed automatic transmission, that's said to be enough to propel the Project 7 to 60 in 3.8 seconds en route to an electronically limited top speed of 186 miles per hour. Keeping all that power and pace in check and on the road are such features as carbon ceramic brakes, a full complement of carbon-fiber aero components, electronic differential and brake-based torque vectoring system.

Chinese patent filing shows what could be next Royal Limo from Jaguar

Fri, 10 May 2013

Someone filed a patent application in China for the Jaguar XJ limousine seen above, but no one's sure who filed it or what the car is for. One camp thinks it's a State limo for UK royals like the Bentley State Limousine, another camp thinks it's the work of aftermarket coachbuilders.
One thing's for sure: Assuming it ever gets made, anyone who buys it wants an XJ in name only; the modifications have removed almost all of the grace of the standard sedan. Estimated to be more than three feet longer than an XJ, the stretched rear doors are backed by an even more stretched rear section that, in losing the trademark XJ C-pillar (the D-pillar on this car), adds all sorts of ungainliness to its backside. What's more, the roof rises from front to rear, we can only assume to make room for people with large hats. Or the NBA player that the Chinese call "Sweet Melon."
Head over to AutoSohu for more photos from the application, if you're sure that's what you really want.

This Jaguar E-Type is an even longer-legged feline

Tue, 12 Nov 2013

Paul Branstad loves the shape and purity of the Series 1 Jaguar E-Type, produced from 1961 to 1968, but appreciates the longer length of the Series 3 V12 model, which affords occupants a more comfortable space in which to enjoy long trips. So when Branstad brought his damaged left-hand-drive 1968 roadster from its home in the US to Classic Motor Cars in the UK for a restoration, he had a special request: restore his car, but make it a bit longer.
"This is something that we have never done before. Our client wanted the interior leg room of a Series 3 V12 E-Type but the aesthetics of a Series 1 car," says Nick Goldthorp, managing director of CMC.
For the restoration, CMC added 4.5 inches of length to the floor pan of Branstad's E-Type to create the extra legroom. Goldthorp relates, "The V12 was actually nine inches longer than a Series 1 but a lot of the additional room was behind the seats as storage and was not required on our project." That's because CMC also built a trailer out of two E-Type rear ends that attaches to a custom-made removable tow hitch.
