Very Rare low mileage Primrose Yellow Jaguar XKE Convertible (E-Type)

DETAILS:

  • Exterior in primrose yellow
  • Includes original black hard and soft tops - hard top is in mint condition and has been stored since new
  • Original center knock off wire wheels with all associated original tools in trunk
  • The interior is in excellent condition; no tears!
  • The suspension is tight and handles great!
  • The exhaust was upgraded to stainless steel
  • The engine has very good oil pressure and compression,  however, it needs a water pump because the bearing is whining
  • Air conditioning and heat operation are all working to factory specs
  • This car does include a maintenance and repair log that dates from the time it was bought (includes gas amount and mileage!)

This particular 1974 Jaguar Series 3 has been meticulously maintained over the last 39 years by the original first and only owner. It is beautiful and unrestored. The primrose paint is nearly flawless with no notable imperfections to speak of. The same goes for the chrome bumpers that shine like new. The rest of the chrome accents are equally as nice with no imperfection that we have found. The black cloth top and hard top is also in original condition. Inside the black and saddle interior is in great condition with no major wear. The same goes for the carpets, door panels and dashboard. The vehicle does have the original spare, jack and wheel wrench. Under the hood boasts the desired 5.3-liter V 12 attached to an automatic transmission making this vehicle a joy to drive. This vehicle also equipped with A/C making it very collectible and a great investment. The mileage shows 35,312 original miles, and we do have documentation to support it. The car has always been in climate controlled storage and never driven in bad weather! In the last 10 years the car has undergone major preventive maintenance repair including belts, hoses, fluids, and wheel bearing. This is all documented in the log described above. Currently the only known defect is the water pump bearing is starting to make noise and will need to be rebuilt or replaced!

The condition of this vehicle is remarkable with every component functioning in a state of preservation rarely seen in a car of this vintage. This was the last year for the legendary E-Type, and many argue these later cars are the most desirable due to their increased comfort and power over earlier models.

Excerpt from 1961-1974 Jaguar E-Type article by Mark McCourt, Hemming’s Motor News. "The purist sports car morphed into a luxurious, powerful GT with the V-12-powered 1971-1974 Series 3s. The Fixed-Head Coupe didn't return in this generation, and the Open Two Seater was now based on the longer 2+2 wheelbase, which allowed for power steering and its first optional automatic gearbox. Distinguishing features of the final series were the E-type's first engine intake grille, fender flares over 15-inch chromed steel or wire wheels, ventilation grilles in the 2+2's hatch and in the roadster's optional fiberglass hardtop and four (later two) exhaust tips."

Due to age this auto is sold ‘AS-IS’, that is to say with no warranty. So please ask questions and I will do my best to promptly reply!

2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT takes fiercest feline further [UPDATE]

Tue, 26 Mar 2013

If there were any car to overshadow the 542-horsepower Jaguar XJR that's coming to the New York Auto Show, this is it. Meet the Jaguar XKR-S GT - a street-legal, higher-performance version of the already hardcore XKR-S that will be headed to North America in very limited quantities. Only 30 will be offered on our continent, with 25 earmarked for the United States and the remaining five going to Canada. The cost of entry? $174,000 when it goes on sale this August.
What that gets you is a coupe that is, without any doubt, ready to attack any racetrack it might encounter. The XKR-S' supercharged 5.0-liter V8 has not been upgraded in terms of power - not that 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque is anything to sneeze at - but instead, Jaguar focused on tuning the bits of the car that help effectively put all that grunt to the ground. There's a new hood with rows of louvers to aid in engine cooling, and elsewhere on the car's body, you'll find carbon fiber on the redesigned front air splitter, dive planes, extended wheel arch spats, as well as a new rear diffuser, an aluminum front under tray and an absolutely massive wing out back to keep downforce to a maximum.
Underneath that hot body are retuned and height-adjustable adaptive dampers; spring rates have been increased by 68 percent in front and 25 percent at the rear versus a standard XKR-S. Most of the front and rear suspension geometry has been upgraded, larger carbon ceramic brakes have been fitted at all four corners, and wider 20-inch forged alloy wheels are found here, wrapped in Pirelli Corsa tires - 255/35-series rubber in front and 305/30-series stuff out back. There's also a revised active exhaust system, which should only improve the already thunderous roar coming out the back of the Jag coupe, and a faster steering rack has been added for improved agility.

2016 Jaguar XF First Drive [w/video]

Thu, Sep 3 2015

Jaguar has never had a problem with style or driving joy. Every generation of the British brand's vehicles – with excuses made and accepted in advance for S-Type and X-Type and other outliers – has offered compelling styling and great performance. New kid XF was no exception when it was introduced in 2007. The car's sheetmetal pointed the way forward for the fully up-to-date range we see now, and its confident engines and handling chops were on pace with the best Bimmers, Benzes, and Cadillacs. The first-generation XF made some hay for Jaguar, selling around 280,000 copies through 2014. But those annualized rates still represented a blip on the luxury midsize radar when viewed against the backdrop of the German Three's numbers. Part of that sales story has been down to the E-Classes and 5 Series of the world being consistently excellent, to be sure. But a lot of the blame can be found in Jaguar's historic weak spots. Grace and pace the brand had in spades, but consumer perception of quality and reliability just weren't there, pricing was typically near the top of the class, and the residual values of the cars were low (a combination of all three factors, most likely). Of course, Jag would love to sell a few more cars. But this time, instead of simply building a great-looking, great-driving new XF (which is absolutely the case), the brand is doing some clever non-engineering-based things to put more big cats in more garages than ever before. The tradeoff of very good ride quality is worth the minute amount of roll. After flying all they way to Spain – Pamplona and the Navarra Circuit, by way of Barcelona and a Range Rover adventure you'll hear about soon – I would be remiss not to tell you how the new XF goes down the road. Some 150 kilometers (93 miles) of motorway and challenging b-roads lie between the city with that annual livestock problem and the 2.44-mile, FIA approved racecourse. A route that led me to understand that this XF, in my case the 380-horsepower XF S, has gained more than it has lost in the generational changeover. The company is fully committed to aluminum for its midsizer, with the new car now using a body structure that's 75-percent built from the stuff. I'm told that means a body in white that weighs just over 600 pounds, and an overall weight savings of 11 percent. Body stiffness has been raised by 28 percent in the process.

Lapping Le Mans with 1956's version of a dash cam

Wed, 01 May 2013

Mike Hawthorne and Ivor Bueb won The 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1955 driving a Jaguar D-Type. The following year, a few days before the race, a British broadcaster put cameras on Hawthorne's car, hung a mic from a plate on his race suit and had him narrate a lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe.
It is compelling viewing. A new pit complex was built after the massive accident on the front straight in 1955, but this was still a time when crews prepped for the race on roads that were open to the public. Hawthorne's lap includes maneuvers to avoid bicyclists and cars, and gems like letting us know that doing 185 miles per hour down the Mulsanne Straight was where you could "relax a little, recover your energy." Watch him work it like the men of old in the video below.
