1968 Jaguar Xke S1 Ots 4.2l on 2040-cars

Year:1968 Mileage:21281
Location:

Chicago, Illinois, United States

Chicago, Illinois, United States

Pictured here is a 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5  OTS 4.2 Litre.

It is a "survivor" car with 21,281 original miles. It has been kept in heated storage since 1987 with  no rust and is a very solid example. Purchased as a 2 owner car in 2011, with the previous owner enjoying it since 1971. This car was manufactured "right of center" of the production run of 2,479 units that were LHD. It's been documented that only 778 Federal designated OTS cars were made for import to the United States.

Here are the builder's tag numbers, and all units/chassis bear these numbers accordingly:

Chassis No.  1E 17492
Engine  No.  7E 16836-9
Gearbox No. KE 764
Body No.      4E 9556
Paint             British Racing Green
Top               black
Interior          black leather
Date of Manufacture  March 19th, 1968

Work performed within the last year;

New battery and original alternator rebuilt
Entire brake system gone through, flush and bled system
One fuse box replaced due to bad fuse clips; kept the original
Fluids all drained and replaced with specific grades as required
Leather conditioned
Brake reservoir cap/level indicator (1) replaced; kept original
Check valve clearance, all good, no adjustments necessary
 All front end inspected, all serviced and in good condition
 Fuel tank and system cleaned, both carburetors full rebuild, needles adjusted for standard pump gas
 New complete stock exhaust system
 Electrical system gone through, all works well

The car has been driven 962.3 miles since work was performed. Whether driving in the city or on the highway it ran without a glitch. No over heating,
all gauges functional and true to their readings. Drives straight and solid, and it brakes straight.

Also the car received a full paint job in 1987 it's original color of BRG, seemingly due to the right front being "tapped". Under close exam it was minor.   The "new" paint shows a patina of 27 years. It was never wet sanded until recently, with 2500 grit, and it's quite nice. Given the fact all else is original it works well with the aesthetics of this car.

What the car needs;
    #1) Tires, we did not change them, and they hold air well enough to drive/store it, but are suffering from dry rot. Purchaser can decide on black, white or red line tires to their liking.
    #2)  An original jack, the companion wrench, and tool kit.
    #3)  The "motif" bar in the bonnet's center. This car was fitted, as a few were, with a small opening bonnet due to '68 being a "transition" year, hence this year has the lowest yearly production for E-types throughout the 3 series.

 Other notes to point out;
       The top fits well.
       All glass is very good, interior is in great shape, and the rubber and seals are good original condition.
       Factory seat belts are in working order. Door locks, hinges, window regulators all function as new.

This particular car can be driven as shown here, or exhibited with pride in
 "survivor class" at any classic car show. I enjoyed driving it, top down and all, but other projects prevail.

Please contact me w/any questions, or I can send any additional specific photographs upon request. You can bid with confidence on this rare Jaguar roadster, and good luck in bidding.

2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT takes fiercest feline further [UPDATE]

Tue, 26 Mar 2013

If there were any car to overshadow the 542-horsepower Jaguar XJR that's coming to the New York Auto Show, this is it. Meet the Jaguar XKR-S GT - a street-legal, higher-performance version of the already hardcore XKR-S that will be headed to North America in very limited quantities. Only 30 will be offered on our continent, with 25 earmarked for the United States and the remaining five going to Canada. The cost of entry? $174,000 when it goes on sale this August.
What that gets you is a coupe that is, without any doubt, ready to attack any racetrack it might encounter. The XKR-S' supercharged 5.0-liter V8 has not been upgraded in terms of power - not that 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque is anything to sneeze at - but instead, Jaguar focused on tuning the bits of the car that help effectively put all that grunt to the ground. There's a new hood with rows of louvers to aid in engine cooling, and elsewhere on the car's body, you'll find carbon fiber on the redesigned front air splitter, dive planes, extended wheel arch spats, as well as a new rear diffuser, an aluminum front under tray and an absolutely massive wing out back to keep downforce to a maximum.
Underneath that hot body are retuned and height-adjustable adaptive dampers; spring rates have been increased by 68 percent in front and 25 percent at the rear versus a standard XKR-S. Most of the front and rear suspension geometry has been upgraded, larger carbon ceramic brakes have been fitted at all four corners, and wider 20-inch forged alloy wheels are found here, wrapped in Pirelli Corsa tires - 255/35-series rubber in front and 305/30-series stuff out back. There's also a revised active exhaust system, which should only improve the already thunderous roar coming out the back of the Jag coupe, and a faster steering rack has been added for improved agility.

Why Land Rover's reluctant to show concepts: Chinese clones

Thu, Oct 19 2017

While the Chinese auto industry continues to grow and expand with new and original products, a number of automakers still refuse to play by the rules. Rather than coming up with original designs, these automakers shamelessly copy designs from other automakers, slapping their badge on the front as if it were an original product. According to Auto Express, Land Rover has grown tired of dealing with these frauds to the point that it's essentially stopped showing concept cars in order to stave off these clones. One of the most notable and brazen examples of these Chinese copycats is the LandWind X7. While that car looks like an obvious ripoff of the Range Rover Evoque, complaints by Jaguar Land Rover were dismissed, and the X7 hit the market for about a third of the price of the Evoque. Further efforts by JLR have done nothing to halt or change the car's production. It seems Chinese authorities are more interested in protecting the home team than upholding copyright laws. Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern said the automaker was "wary of showing new concepts" because they just give these competitors time to work up a copy. Land Rover's latest model, the Velar, debuted in Geneva in production form. Skipping concepts may not stop competitors from making copies, but it does give Land Rover a huge head start when it comes to production. Lightweight E-Type to show historic side of Jaguar Special Operations in Monterey

Mon, 11 Aug 2014

Jaguar has made a lot of great vehicles over the years, but as far as historians are concerned, it still very much lives in the shadow of the original E-Type, small as it was. In its image, Jaguar has made two generations of XK and the new F-Type, but what we have here is the most faithful continuation of the E-Type heritage yet.
Alongside the Range Rover Sport SVR and the F-Type Project 7 (making its US debut), Jaguar Land Rover and its new Special Operations division will roll into Pebble Beach this year with the continuation Lightweight E-Type. Of the 72,500 E-Types which Jaguar built between 1961 and 1975, only a dozen were Lightweight versions, and they remain the most coveted E-Types of all. It originally planned on building 18 examples, though, and five decades later, it's now committed to completing that original production run in faithful detail.
The Lightweight E-Type was based on the standard roadster and was homologated as such, just with some key upgrades to make it lighter and faster. The biggest change, of course, was the lightweight aluminum bodywork that cut 205 pounds off the curb weight. To replicate it, Jaguar took the last example (the only one made in 1964 after the original eleven were made in '63), scanned half its body surface, mirrored it to ensure symmetry and set about reproducing it with the same standard of materials available in the Sixties (and resisting the urge to go with more modern grades of aluminum). 75 percent of the 230 components are made in-house, with the largest stampings outsourced and built on machinery built to Jaguar's specifications off-site.
