Offered for sale is an absolutely beautiful, rust-free, numbers matching and fantastically original 1967 Jaguar E-Type Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) finished in Carmen Red over black leather. The recipient of a single, decade old repaint in its factory correct color, the car is otherwise original, a solid and mechanically strong example that is ready to be enjoyed as is, or as an exceptional platform for a concours level restoration.

This is not a fully restored example – something that’s actually becoming somewhat scarce in Series I cars – and accordingly the car has its share of imperfections (soft dings, a scratch here and there – all minor), but as the pictures exhibit, the car remains exceptionally attractive. The paint is still deep and lustrous, polishing up nicely and cloaking an entirely original body that’s free of bondo or any evidence of accident repairs.

The panel fits and gaps are all consistent and correct and rust has clearly never been allowed to invade either the car’s body or its undercarriage, which is entirely original and solid. The brightwork is in excellent original condition, as is all the original glass and rubber, and the original chrome knock off wheels are wrapped in radial tires with plenty of remaining tread.

The car’s interior is equally as clean. Despite the car’s age the black leather seats, interior panels and dark carpets are all in excellent original condition, showing merely the patina one would expect of a well-cared-for, original example.  The headliner is immaculate, as is the center console and dash, housing all of the original toggle switches and the original radio.

Mechanically the car is a joy to drive, the venerable, 4.2L inline 6 cylinder engine firing up easily, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the gearbox’s four gears. Compression is excellent and the dual exhaust emits the requisite “big cat” howl, ensuring that every driver’s experience is thrilling from behind the wheel. Ride quality is exceptionally good, with straight and true braking and entirely solid handling, yielding a car that’s a joy to drive, especially on wide-open back roads.

This represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a rapidly appreciating classic that has all the right things going for it: numbers matching, rust-free, extremely original and mechanically sound, finished in a desirable, factory correct livery. As the market on Series I cars continues to rise at dizzying rates, acquiring what is arguably the most desirable model year of the run (the final year of the 4.2L engine, closed headlamps, enlarged cockpit, etc.) is sure to be a wise and grin-inducing decision, regardless of whether you intend on enjoying it as a gorgeous weekend driver or as a truly fantastic platform for a concours level restoration.

We want this car to go to great home and would be happy to further discuss it and answer any questions, so please feel free to email us or call us at 805-202-4557. You can also visit us online at GoodmanReed.

Goodman Reed Motorcars

We’ve always had an appreciation for classic European cars and over the years have created an eclectic personal collection. We only buy cars that we’d personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room for other acquisitions. That time has come for this Jaguar (if the price is right, of course – this isn’t a fire sale). We try to give accurate descriptions of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not experts, and we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional inspections. But please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms our ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their proper due diligence before bidding.

For U.S. buyers a 10% non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end. Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end. Buyer is responsible for shipping, however we’d be more that happy to help with recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end. Thanks for your interest.

Regulators consider adding more carmakers to Takata recall

Tue, Sep 29 2015

Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal has been getting a lot of press recently, but the Takata airbag inflator affair could be grabbing headlines again soon. According to Bloomberg, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is contemplating an expansion to the campaign that could add seven automakers to the 12 already affected. They are Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Spartan Motors, Suzuki, Tesla, Volvo Trucks, and VW Group. To be clear, there's no recall for any of these automakers, yet. The government is simply asking for a full list of vehicles that each of them have with Takata-supplied inflators containing ammonium nitrate propellant. The agency is concerned this substance could play a roll in the ruptures. "NHTSA is considering not only whether to issue an administrative order that would coordinate the remedy programs associated with the current Takata recalls, but also whether such an order should include expansion of the current recalls," the letters say. All seven can be viewed, here. From a report supplied by Takata, the government already knows that the company supplied 887,055 inflators with ammonium-nitrate propellant to VW and 184,926 of them to Tesla. In an incident during the summer, a side airbag allegedly burst in a 2015 VW Tiguan. In early September, NHTSA put out a revised report that there were 23.4 million inflators to be replaced in 19.2 million vehicles in the US. An earlier accounting from the agency had about 34 million of the parts in 30 million cars. High humidity is still believed to be among the biggest risk factors for the ruptures. Although, if ammonium nitrate also gets the blame, some already recalled models might need to be repaired again. Related Video:

Lots of Land Rovers, Jaguars and Minis actually survived that near-capsized ship

Thu, Jan 29 2015

Despite a severe list to starboard, many of the 1,400 cars and SUVs aboard the 51,000-ton Hoegh Osaka are currently being recovered in salvageable condition, with video showing some of the vehicles from British brands Land Rover, Jaguar and Mini, being driven ashore under their own power. The car-carrying vessel developed a severe list on January 3 and was intentionally run aground on a sandbar between England and the Isle of Wight. It has since limped its way back to port in Southampton, where damage assessments are being conducted on both the ship and its $53-million in cargo. According to the company that owns the car carrier, the ship itself only suffered minor damage in the incident, while Car and Driver is reporting that many of the damaged vehicles will almost certainly be scrapped. Still, the fact that there are vehicles, some of which appear undamaged (look at that Defender at 0:50!), being removed from the Hoegh Osaka needs to count as a net win. Wacky Jaguar crossover mule is a mind-blowing mashup

Tue, 03 Dec 2013

As Jaguar prepares to introduce its first-ever utility vehicle, our spy shooters have captured this jacked-up XF mule out testing. While a production Jaguar crossover will surely resemble something closer to the recent C-X17 Concept, we can't help but think that the automaker could sell at least a few of these lifted, four-wheel-drive sedans.
Other than proving that Jaguar is hard at work developing this new model using a cobbled-together body, there are some details we can put together about this luxury CUV. For one it's about the same length as an XF, while the ride height is obviously taller and the tire track wider. We're not sure what the rig on top of this mule is for, but the whole car has us reminiscing about the old sedan versions of the Subaru Outback and the AMC Eagle (with a luxury spin, of course).
