2014 Jaguar XJR is large, in charge
Wed, 27 Mar 2013There are few things in this world we love more than a huge, supersonic-feeling sedan, and Jaguar has just ripped the sheets off of its newest entry into that set of bruisers. The 2014 Jaguar XJR puts down a full 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque courtesy of a supercharged 5.0-liter V8. All that thrust lands on the rear tires through an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the big aluminum-chassis'd four door can sprint to 60 miles per hour in a skinny 4.4 seconds. Top speed sits at an electronically limited 174 mph, and Jaguar estimates the machine will still return up to 23 miles per gallon highway.

The 2014 XJR also features stiffer spring and damper rates along with an electronically controlled rear differential. Of course, there are plenty of styling tweaks on hand to separate the most menacing XJ from the rest of the family. Those include new fascias, R emblems and massive 20-inch wheels outdoors as well as special seating and trim elements indoors. Asking price? 2014 Jaguar XFR-S is the power and the fury
Thu, 29 Nov 2012If there's something wrong about a sedan with a 550-horsepower supercharged V8, we don't want to hear about it. Instead, we want to marvel at the car in person, which is fortuitous because Jaguar has officially unveiled the 2014 XFR-S at the 2012 LA Auto Show. That blown 5.0-liter V8 dishes up a full 502 pound-feet of torque, which is good enough to shuttle the four-door to 60 mph in a scant 4.4 seconds. And, thanks to a start stop system and a few other fuel-saving tricks, the 2014 XFR-S gets away without being hit by the gas guzzler tax.
That's all good news, but we're just as excited about the fact that engineers managed to crank up the vehicle's chassis stiffness by a ludicrous 30 percent. Stiffer dampers and springs also give the car a little more poise, and a wide-open exhaust lets the whole world know you're kicking down their door. Seven-figure cars highlight day one of RM's Monterey auction
Sat, 17 Aug 2013RM Auctions is one of several houses holding auctions during the Monterey weekend, and Friday night's festivities got quite pricey. Seven-figure vehicles were not at all uncommon during the first day of the two-day event, with the 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Spider, seen above, crossing the block for $9,075,000.
Other big earners included a pair of rare Ferraris, a 1950 166 MM Barchetta and a 1955 750 Monza Spider, which took $3,080,000 and $4,070,000, respectively. Outside of the red Italians, a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special captured $7,480,000 while a stunning, color-appropriate 1955 Jaguar D-Type took $3,850,000. Thought it seems impossible, tonight's auction is expected to see even more high-dollar action. The winner of the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours, a 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Torpedo Roadster is expected to command over $10 million. Also crossing the block will be a car we reported on a few weeks back - a supremely rare 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder. One of only 10 in the world, it's expected to take anywhere from $14 to $17 million when it hits the stage tonight.
