I purchased this Jaguar in January of this year, the transmission was failing at that time. The A clutch drum had failed. This is a very common problem with these transmissions. I replaced the A clutch drum, valve body, seals and fluid. Inspected all the clutch packs and pump. I am selling this beautiful car because I have bought a 2008 Pontiac Solstice. Just to many toys. Everything other than the transmission repairs were paid for by the previous owner out in California. He told me that the labor rate out there was $175.00 / Hr and all work was done by a Jaguar dealer. Even the underside of this car looks like new Upon request I can send you a copy of the Carfax that I paid for when I bought the car.
This is a gorgeous 1998 Jaguar XK8 convertible. Beautiful body and black paint, excellent black top and headliner, and very nice original interior with soft cashmere color leather with some wear on the lower out corner of each seat. As seen in the pictures. Sparkling chrome factory wheels with Michelin tires (less than 6,000 miles on them). I am the third owner. I purchased the car 10 months ago from California. Nearly $11,000 in repairs and updates in the last 25,000 miles. Runs and drives well, everything works. This is a great opportunity for a Jaguar enthusiast to get a beautiful and well cared for XK8. Below is a list of the major work done on the car, with mileage and cost. As you can see this car has been well cared for. Miles Task Cost 123560 Overhaul transmission, New front struts, lower control arm bushings, replaced original plastic thermostat housing with new aluminum housing 122300 Four new Michelin tires $1,020.00 115090 Front brakes pads/rotors $1,083.48 112892 Smog check, pass 104653 New HP power steering hose, brake switch $1,302.27 101697 Timing chain tensioner upgrade (lower) $5,341.82 88963 New serpentinem belt, wiper blades $594.98 87637 New heater hoses, Tstat, front/rear brake pads/rotors $2,942.02 70534 Update timing chain tensiner (upper) new fuel pump $2,954.12 67127 Replace alternator $757.76 63740 Brakes, front rotors/pads, misc $630.22 54049 Tires $956.26 50665 Radiator flush, brake flush, serpentine belt $525.09 45235 Brake switch $285.72 40162 Replace wish bone bushings, 40K mile service $1,145.51 33683 Brakes, new front rotors/pads $583.82 28484 30K mile service, detail, new battery $896.61 27221 Flush/replace top fluid N/C As you can see all of the key preventive maintenance important for these cars has been done, from the full timing chain tension upgrade, all the way down to the upgrade fluid for the top hydraulic system. Everything works. There are some minor chips and dings here and there, and the only detractors in the interior are some wear to the outer lower seat backs that can be seen in the pictures. The car is for sale locally as well so the listing could end at any time. |

Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017
Tue, Feb 17 2015Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).
European automakers gear up for Brazilian production
Mon, 07 Oct 2013Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.
Jaguar XK and F-Type meet for final sibling faceoff
Fri, 08 Aug 2014There's nothing that real, dyed-in-the-wool car geeks love so much as to say "Old Car X is actually a lot better than New Car Y." For reasons that defy both logic and science, we all (your author included) are able to, almost simultaneously, bitch about needed advancements in current vehicles and then bemoan character lost in the next crop.
Mitsubishi Evo models have been supremely prone to this bifurcation of opinion in recent years (ask an Evo IX fanboy about the Evo X sometime... ), and performance cars wearing WRX, Mustang, and M3 badges have been deeply subject to it, as well.
The Jaguar XK and F-Type are not exactly in the same one-model, generational-changeover form as those mentioned above, but that doesn't mean that there aren't defenders of both the old dog and the new joint. Autocar seeks the truth of the matter in this new video, and we're just happy to come along for the ride. May the best sib win.
