Age and failing health forces me to part with my beautiful 1956 Jaguar XK 140 Drop Head Coupe Convertible.  I hate to see her go but the time has come.  I have owned her since 1985 and did much of the restoration myself as well as other craftsmen for specialized work that I could not do.  I do not claim this to be a 100 point car as there are some issues that could be given attention but it is an awesome car that people love and it turns heads everywhere we go.  I have won several trophies and awards from various car shows.  When I brought her home she was missing the engine and transmission. Being on a budget and being mostly interested in the aesthetic  beauty of the car I chose to install a Chevy engine and TH 350 automatic transmission. There are no modifications to the frame other than a few extra holes where the motor mounts are bolted.  Also, a stainless steel steering shaft and U joints were coupled to the original rack and pinion steering.  There were cooling problems with the V8, even with the new heavy duty 4 row radiator and electric fan, so after several years I removed it and installed a rebuilt 1992 GM 4.3 liter V6 engine.  The 4 barrel carbureted V6 has proven to be the most fantastic engine for both torque and power I have seen!  It actually out performs the old V8.  I am certain it would out perform a stock inline 6 Jaguar engine up to a point.  We’re not talking running LeMans here folks! And it runs COOL at or below normal operating temperature on the hottest Colorado day!  Fuel is supplied from the new aluminum alloy gas tank to the engine by a new gerotor electric fuel pump. The new custom exhaust system is equipped with dual turbo mufflers which sounds remarkably like a stock Jaguar inline 6.  After I made her run I needed to make her stop.  The original Jaguar drum brakes just didn’t cut it.  So I bought and converted to a rebuilt Dunlop 4 wheel disc brake set up from a Jaguar MK IX Saloon car.  No more want for braking power here!  This car STOPS!  The interior is all done in oxblood Naugahyde upholstery with color matching carpet including the jump seat space behind the main seats. Behind the boot (trunk) access door I have installed a concealed  GM Delco AM FM push button radio with dual Jensen speakers.  Every piece of interior wood was hand made from top grade solid black walnut except for the original burly walnut dash panel which is in beautiful condition.  All of the instrumentation is original Smiths except for the temp gage which I had custom made for the V8 engine, and the tach is a Sun electric unit fitted nicely in the proper location.  100% of the wiring has been replaced and power is supplied by an Optima dry type 12 volt negative ground battery.  All of the chrome was re-plated and the tan cloth drop top was installed by Auto Weave of Denver which is a top of the line shop. This top has never been WET! This car has the rare and unusual disc wheels with small hubcaps fitted with Coker wide whitewall tires.  I think the disc wheels are much more beautiful than spoke wheels and present a ‘50's era fashion statement! They also set this car apart from the usual spoke wheeled Jaguars.  There are only two issues that I can think of that could use some attention, and then only if you want to but are really not needed.  The paint has a few fish-eye flaws and the left hand door doesn’t fit as nicely as the right hand door. Otherwise I can’t think of anything else to mention.  This car is not for the Jaguar purest, but is a great car to drive, show, and have fun with at about half the price of a pure original Jag. It would be very easy to install an original engine and transmission if someone wanted to do that.  If you have questions please ask.  Inspections welcome by appointment. No test drives but I’ll take you for a demo drive. No ‘lookie-loos’ or dreamers. No scammers, I know them all.  Only serious buyers PLEASE!

Jaguar Land Rover may build factory in Saudi Arabia

Tue, 11 Dec 2012

The Middle East is one of the fastest-growing markets for Land Rover, so it makes sense that the automaker is looking to set up shop in the region. According to Automotive News, Jaguar Land Rover is in talks with the people of Saudi Arabia to build a factory in the country at an expected initial cost of $1.2 billion. Still in the early stage of talks, the proposed facility could start up by 2017 using locally sourced materials such as steel and aluminum.
Such an arrangement could be beneficial for both entities as Saudi Arabia looks to diversify its oil-reliant economy and Land Rover could get local production capacity of around 50,000 units. The report also says that the agreement talks about the possibility for Jaguar models to be built at the same plant further down the road.
This won't be the first vehicle produced in Saudi Arabia - that honor goes to the KSU Gazal-1 - but it will be the first from a major global automaker.

Latest Jaguar XJ snaps show old versus new

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

It is a rare day when automakers line up their current models and test cars right next to each other and allow us to compare them directly. However, Jaguar ending up doing just that during cold weather testing of the face lifted XJ, providing the perfect chance to see just what the company is changing.
We spotted the refreshed XJ testing last year, and it hasn't evolved much since then. The updated model sports clear turn signals and a slightly revised front air dam. The modifications are similarly minor at the rear. The bumper appears to dip down slightly further on the new sedan. Thankfully, those gorgeous taillights are still draped over the back of the car. The exhaust outlets have switched to oval shapes rather than the current parallelograms. This alteration could just be chalked up to it being a test car, but the previous tester we saw had a similar design. It's possible that the camouflage could be hiding other revisions, but don't expect anything radical from the facelift.
Our previous report indicated that Jaguar is also planning some interior upgrades with new infotainment and ambient lighting. The company seems to feel that there isn't a point in messing with the XJ's design just yet, since all of the changes we see here are very subtle. No problems, here - to our eyes, the big Jag is still one of the prettier sedans on the road today.

Jaguar XKSS tipped to be next continuation model

Mon, Feb 9 2015

After the Jaguar F-Type Project Seven, Range Rover Sport SVR, and run of six continuation Lightweight E-Types, the Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations (SVO) division is plotting its next historic resurrection, and there's a chance it could be the Jaguar XKSS. That's the word from SVO head John Edwards to Dutch outlet Autovisie, but we need to emphasize the word "could," because the XKSS is one of about four finalists - a "major contender" - among a long list of 65 ideas for the Special Operations to devote itself to. Edwards said that SVO projects need to have some kind of story behind them, a qualification the XKSS doesn't lack. In the 1950s Jaguar raced the D-Type to three Le Mans wins among its list of victories, but retired as a factory team at the end of 1955. When Jaguar decided to turn 25 unused D-Type chassis' into road-going cars, the XKSS was created. The company built the 25, but a fire at the Browns Lane factory destroyed nine of them. It is those nine that will be in the continuation run, should the XKSS get the nod. Jaguar has already sold the six E-Type Lightweight models, each one for more a million pounds ($1.52M US). The XKSS could undoubtedly command even more, with its legendary roots; the 1956 model that Steve McQueen bought for $5,000 (and Jay Leno recently drove) is said to be worth thirty million. We have to think that even if the XKSS isn't chosen right now, it will certainly get the green light at some point.
