Offered for sale is an exceptionally
clean, well sorted and beautiful 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE Open Two Seater (OTS),
finished in timeless and wonderfully era-specific Old English White over Green
leather with a matching green canvas soft top. Just out of the William Young
collection in Seattle following more than 30 years of ownership, the car has
been fully gone through mechanically and is ready to enjoy, whether as a
fabulous weekend driver or as a Jaguar Club of North America (JCNA) event
participant. William Young has been a significant collector for the last 40 years and while his collection has included cars as notable as the ex-Constance Bennett 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Special Town Car by Brewster (now valued at $3M+), Jaguars were always his true passion and we were fortunate enough to have acquired three of his XK120 Roadsters and his Mark V Drophead Coupe. A JCNA regional president for many years, Mr. Young always bought only the most honest examples and kept them exceptionally well maintained, as evidenced by this car’s fantastic condition. The recipient of a high quality restoration 25-year-old restoration, the car presents nearly as well as it did following its completion, at which point it was high scoring in JCNA shows. The factory correct Old English White paint is not without its blemishes, but as the pictures exhibit, they are few, far between and completely insignificant in terms of taking away from the car’s overall appeal, which is substantial. The body is entirely straight, without any evidence of bondo or accident repair and the panel fit is consistent with even gaps all around. The brightwork is in excellent shape, as are both the rubber and glass, and the painted knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in wide white wall tires with plenty of remaining tread. The green leather interior is in equally as clean condition, appearing virtually untouched. The seats show only the most negligible amount of wear and the same is true of the carpets and interior panels. The canvas soft top is as new and the car has never been subjected to the elements, evidenced by the untainted, rust-free undercarriage. This is an entirely pure, correct and honest car, one that needs only a new owner’s garage and the same doting care that its received for the last 30+ years. Mechanically the car is fantastic, its 3.4L engine firing up effortlessly, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the original Moss gearbox’s gears. A factory Special Equipment model, the dual exhaust has been updated with an exceptional stainless system that emits a note that this nothing if not grin-inducing. Performance accompanies with excellent, even compression and fantastic ride quality. The car brakes straight and true, the suspension is sound and the car is a joy on the road, whether tooling through town, roaring through the canyons or bombing down the highway. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an appreciating XK120 SE OTS that has all the right things going for it: a timeless and appealing color combination, excellent provenance, strong mechanicals and in beautiful cosmetic condition. We’ve considered consigning the entire collection to the Gooding and Co. auction at Amelia Island, FL this spring, but are willing to sell the cars (or the entire collection) privately at what would be a significant discount compared to what examples routinely bring when crossing the auction block. Please bid accordingly. We want this car to go to great home and would be happy to further discuss it and answer any questions, so please feel free to email us or call us at 805-202-4557. You can also visit us online at GoodmanReed. Goodman Reed Motorcars We’ve always had an appreciation for classic European cars and over the years have created an eclectic personal collection. We only buy cars that we’d personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room for other acquisitions. That time has come for this Jaguar (if the price is right, of course – this isn’t a fire sale). We try to give accurate descriptions of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not experts, and we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional inspections. But please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms our ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their proper due diligence before bidding. For U.S. buyers a 10% non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end. Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end. Buyer is responsible for shipping, however we’d be more that happy to help with recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end. Thanks for your interest. |

Jaguar wants to make real-life driving just like a video game
Thu, 10 Jul 2014Jaguar Land Rover is on a bit of a tech bent today. It's announced its new family of four-cylinder engines and a "self-learning" vehicle Range Rover prototype, and now it's announced what it calls the Jaguar Virtual Windscreen.
The technology is similar to other head-up displays and telematics recorders already on the market, the Jaguar Virtual Windscreen concept takes things to the next level to turn real-life driving into a video game-like experience. It's being demonstrated with data like lap times, grid positions, virtual racing line and brake guidance... even "ghost" cars from previous laps and virtual cones for simulated autocrossing. Just like you'd find in the latest version of Forza or Gran Turismo, but you know... in an actual car - in this case a Jaguar F-Type. It's similar to the Transparent Bonnet system Land Rover revealed a couple of months ago, but instead of rock-crawling, it's for the race track.
The system also incorporates gesture controls and could be configured to display instrument data, a video feed from a rear-view camera to replace the mirror. Check out the details and the video below for a closer look at what JLR has got in store for the near future.
Rising aluminum costs cut into Ford's profit
Wed, Jan 24 2018When Ford reports fourth-quarter results on Wednesday afternoon, it is expected to fret that rising metals costs have cut into profits, even as rivals say they have the problem under control. Aluminum prices have risen 20 percent in the last year and nearly 11 percent since Dec. 11. Steel prices have risen just over 9 percent in the last year. Ford uses more aluminum in its vehicles than its rivals. Aluminum is lighter but far more expensive than steel, closing at $2,229 per tonne on Tuesday. U.S. steel futures closed at $677 per ton (0.91 metric tonnes). Republican U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is weighing whether to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, which could push prices even higher. Ford gave a disappointing earnings estimate for 2017 and 2018 last week, saying the higher costs for steel, aluminum and other metals, as well as currency volatility, could cost the company $1.6 billion in 2018. Ford shares took a dive after the announcement. Ford Chief Financial Officer Bob Shanks told analysts at a conference in Detroit last week that while the company benefited from low commodity prices in 2016, rising steel prices were now the main cause of higher costs, followed by aluminum. Shanks said the automaker at times relies on foreign currencies as a "natural hedge" for some commodities but those are now going in the opposite direction, so they are not working. A Ford spokesman added that the automaker also uses a mix of contracts, hedges and indexed buying. Industry analysts point to the spike in aluminum versus steel prices as a plausible reason for Ford's problems, especially since it uses far more of the expensive metal than other major automakers. "When you look at Ford in the context of the other automakers, aluminum drives a lot of their volume and I think that is the cause" of their rising costs, said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting at auto consultancy LMC Automotive. Other major automakers say rising commodity costs are not much of a problem. At last week's Detroit auto show, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne reiterated its earnings guidance for 2018 and held forth on a number of topics, but did not mention metals prices. General Motors Co gave a well-received profit outlook last week and did not mention the subject. "We view changes in raw material costs as something that is manageable," a GM spokesman said in an email.
Jaguar F-Type coupe to cost more than convertible?
Tue, 30 Jul 2013Jaguar may price the much-rumored F-Type Coupe above the F-Type Convertible, if a report from Australia's Drive is to be believed. What makes Jag think that such a pricing strategy would work? Porsche. Take a look at the German manufacturer's consumer site, and you'll notice that the Boxster is less expensive than the Cayman, despite being essentially the same car.
It's a fair point, and a price premium does a good job of emphasizing the sporting chops of the coupe over the open-air experience that normally entitles convertibles to higher MSRPs. It's unclear just how closely Jaguar will follow Porsche's example, though.
Both the Cayman and Cayman S boast an extra ten horsepower over a Boxster or Boxster S, and while this bump in grunt is negligible in every situation but an argument over which is "best," it isn't something to be ignored in the F-Type, particularly as cranking more power out of its supercharged engines should be a rather simple matter.
