Up on the auction block is my 1988 Jaguar XJS.  I bought it with the intention to make some themed furniture out if it, but I've run out of cash to do this, let alone restore it back to roadworthy status.  There is some minor rust on the doors near the door latches, as well as some on the interior of the trunk lid.  The dashboard and most of the pieces behind it have been taken out, with the exception of the air conditioning unit.  It's easier to list what is missing than what I have, so here is what's gone:  left rear taillight, A/C system, radiator, 1 cam block, headlight bezels, intake manifold linkages, cruise control servo, large passenger front fender baffle, timing chain tensioner, and random nuts, bolts, and washers that I got rid of over a year ago when putting it back together when a project was not on my mind.  The body is in good condition, with some places where the paint - or clear coat - is peeling. There are many pictures that show both the condition of the vehicle and the wide variety of parts included in this auction. To see them all, visit the car's flickr album here.

As far as the engine goes, it is mostly complete, with some parts of the same kind or area labeled or in the same bag, and some are just random.  The piston assemblies have been completely taken apart, and all of the same piece are in the same bag.  I do remember that one has various nuts and bolts from the top end of the engine.  I broke the timing chain tensioner trying to get the chain off, only after I discovered that I could simply remove the camshaft to do so.  The intake manifold linkage ends were very wallowed out, so I pitched them.

In the event that this auction does not meet its reserve price, I will break out the tools and take it down to the last bolt, but would rather sell it as a project to someone who has the time, money, and passion for this type of car.  It would make a great father/son project as well, lots to do and lots to learn from this car.

Shipping is the buyer's responsibility.  Deposit of US$500 due within 24 hours of auction close, with full payment due after 7 days of auction close unless other arrangements are approved by the seller.

Jaguar-Land Rover will use recycled waste to make parts for future models

Thu, Oct 1 2020

Jaguar-Land Rover's future models will be partially made of junk. The company announced it's working on integrating a recycled material named Econyl into its manufacturing process in the coming years. Created in 2011 by Italy-based Aquafil, Econyl is a fiber made with a blend of recycled industrial plastics, fabric offcuts sourced from clothing manufacturers, and discarded fishing nets aimlessly floating around the ocean. It's more eco-friendly to produce than oil-based fibers, according to Jaguar, and it helps clean up the planet. Jaguar and Land Rover will use Econyl to make floor mats in the not-too-distant future. Neither company listed the models they'll put the material in, but it's reasonable to assume recycled floor mats will be available in the next-generation XJ, which will be electric, and the next-generation Range Rover. Both will be released in 2021. Eco-friendly materials are slowly but surely spreading across the luxury car segment. Jaguar already offers the I-Pace with a Kvadrat upholstery that combines regular wool and up to 53 recycled plastic bottles per car. Audi's fourth-generation A3 is optionally available with an upholstery made largely using recycled plastic bottles, and Volvo estimates at least 25% of the plastics in its cars will be recycled starting in 2025. Environmentalist organizations are putting an increasing amount of pressure on carmakers to deliver so-called vegan interiors. A group called EarthSight recently accused several companies (including Jaguar-Land Rover and BMW) of using leather from cattle raised on illegally logged lands in Paraguay. Representatives for the British company stressed they found no evidence to verify EarthSight's claims. Related Video:

Jaguar F-Pace shows off its production pelt for first time

Fri, Feb 6 2015

We're no strangers to the Jaguar F-Pace, having spotted the production mules for the aristocratic English brand's first crossover on a few different occasions. Today, though, we get not only our first time look at the car in production sheetmetal, but also confirmation that the production model won't stray far from the sexy C-X17 Concept. Riding atop the same aluminum platform that underpins the already acclaimed XE sedan, the F-Pace follows the example set by the Range Rover Evoque, offering up almost a chopped-top look, particularly near the rear, where the plunging roofline and high beltline meet. That said, similarities to products from sister company Land Rover look to be mere coincidences, as the sheetmetal being shown appears all Jag. There's a prominent, snout-like grille that's flanked by a pair of predatory, LED-accented headlights. In back, the small rear window crowns a pair of thin, wraparound taillights. Think XE, with small influences from the F-Type for these units. As for what hides underneath those muscular body panels, our spies are predicting the standard allotment of Jag goodness. That means a gas-powered 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter, supercharged V6, both borrowed from the XE/XF to start, before diesel and hybrid powertrains roll out. Naturally, all-wheel drive will be offered, although the F-Pace should also arrive sporting rear-wheel drive. And while we've got little to go on to believe it's happening, we're still hoping for an F-Pace R, complete with blown 5.0-liter V8. We suspect we'll be waiting on that one for awhile, though. You, though, don't have to wait to check out our spy snaps of the newest Jag in the litter. Check out our photos of the F-Pace, available up top.

Watch the Chevy Corvette dismiss its Euro rivals at the hands of a Brit magazine

Sat, 08 Feb 2014

European auto writers, especially the British, have a bit of a reputation for favoring their own domestic cars over foreign rivals in comparison tests. Just think about how many times you've heard Jeremy Clarkson deify the latest product of UK loins while denigrating an American rival as a hopeless "Yank Tank." However, we have to tip our hats to the folks at Autocar because in its latest video comparing the 2014 Corvette Stingray to the Porsche 911, Jaguar F-Type V8 S and Audi R8, it's actually given the Vette a fair shake.
Autocar has put the Stingray through a battery of tests against what it considers to be the three best sports cars on sale in Europe today. And while the tests that it has chosen are somewhat random and subjective, it has concluded that the C7 can stand up against its rivals, even irrespective of its price. It's one thing to hear about how great the Stingray is from American writers, but it's great to know that not all Brits think we've gone crazy for calling the new Chevrolet "exquisite."
Scroll down to see how it all plays out on video.
