Jaguar Classic heading to Le Mans with vintage racers

A grid full of vintage Jaguars will rumble into France in July to race in the Jaguar Classic Challenge during the Le Mans Classic. The event should give motorsport fans plenty to watch with a bevy of pre-1966 Jags on the famous circuit, including E-Types, XKs, C-Types, D-Types, and even the company's sedans. Jaguar launched the vintage racing series last year to build on the success of the popular E-type Challenge. It continues with a five-event calendar this season but swaps out a meeting at Brands Hatch to go to Le Mans – hard to argue with that change. The drivers also get to lap Donington Park, Silverstone, the Nurburgring, and Oulton Park. Le Mans is practically a home track for these classic Jags. The British automaker dominated the 24-hour race there in the 1950s, including overall victories in '51, '53, '55, '56, and '57. "Watching a diverse array of pre-1966 Jaguars racing on the iconic circuit, some of which even raced there in period, will surely be a sight not to be missed," Tim Hannig, Jaguar Land Rover Classic Director, said in the season announcement. Jaguar, the upscale Brit, is currently enjoying a resurgence in the US, built on an improved value proposition, credible quality, better reliability, and an expanded lineup. That larger lineup now includes an all-new XE four door sedan and Jaguar's first crossover, the F-Pace - pictured above. JAGUAR F-TYPE: An entry-level F-Type has been added to the lineup, improving its accessibility by some $3,600 on the F-Type coupe and roughly $2,700 for the F-Type convertible. XE: Jaguar's compact four door is all-new, and intended to make headway into the sport sedan market long dominated by BMW's 3 Series and, more recently, Audi's A4. The XE brings a tightly drawn platform, responsive drive character and three powertrains to the table, including a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel. It is on sale now. XF: Jaguar's midsize 'saloon' adds a 2.0-liter turbodiesel to its menu, along with Configurable Dynamics. This optional package allows individual settings for suspension, steering, throttle and transmission. XJ: Jaguar's 2017 XJ builds on the 2016 refresh with the addition of new colors and wheels. F-Pace: Jaguar's first crossover has everything it needs to compete with Porsche's Macan, BMW's X3/X5 and M-B's GLC/GLE. As this suggests, the F-Pace is a 'tweener, sitting between compact and midsize crossovers. It seats five, and is available with either a 2.0-liter turbodiesel or supercharged V6. Why Land Rover's reluctant to show concepts: Chinese clones

While the Chinese auto industry continues to grow and expand with new and original products, a number of automakers still refuse to play by the rules. Rather than coming up with original designs, these automakers shamelessly copy designs from other automakers, slapping their badge on the front as if it were an original product. According to Auto Express, Land Rover has grown tired of dealing with these frauds to the point that it's essentially stopped showing concept cars in order to stave off these clones. One of the most notable and brazen examples of these Chinese copycats is the LandWind X7. While that car looks like an obvious ripoff of the Range Rover Evoque, complaints by Jaguar Land Rover were dismissed, and the X7 hit the market for about a third of the price of the Evoque. Further efforts by JLR have done nothing to halt or change the car's production. It seems Chinese authorities are more interested in protecting the home team than upholding copyright laws. Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern said the automaker was "wary of showing new concepts" because they just give these competitors time to work up a copy. Land Rover's latest model, the Velar, debuted in Geneva in production form. Skipping concepts may not stop competitors from making copies, but it does give Land Rover a huge head start when it comes to production.
